  • Bang Pa-In Palace (Thai: พระราชวังบางปะอิน), also known as the Summer Palace, is a large palace complex formerly used by the Thai kings and royal family and you should visit it during your trip to Bangkok.
Bang Pa-In Palace is not used by the Thai royal family as a king's palace now, but it was not so long ago. And Thailand's current king used this palace for the coronation ceremony. You could find the exposition about the Thai coronation ceremony in one of the palace's buildings. It is really interesting in comparison with other countries traditions for coronations.
Bang Pa-In Palace also has the name as Summer Palace as it was mainly used as the summer residence of the Thai royal family. The palace is located in Ban Len city, not far from Bangkok, you could reach it by car with about 1 h 30 m drive from Bangkok to Bang Pa-In.
It is nice to visit Bang Pa-In Palace during your trip to Bangkok. You could visit it as a one-day trip from Bangkok and you could mix this with a visit on the same day to the historic city of Ayutthaya.
Or you can visit Bang Pa-In Royal Palace as well as Ayutthaya Historical City in one day during your tour to Thailand on the way from Bangkok to the North of Thailand.
The total area of the Bang Pa-In Palace complex is 46 acres.
The original Bang Pa-In Palace complex has been constructed by King Prasat Thong  in 1632. But for some reason, the Thai royal family stopped using this palace and it became overgrown in the late 18th and early 19th centuries until King Mongkut began to restore the site in the mid-19th century.
Most of the present buildings were constructed between 1872 and 1889 by King Chulalongkorn.
Of course king Rama IX also lived in the palace and you could find some history and exposition about him and his family.
Phra Thinang Wehat Chamrun - a Chinese-style palace is part of the Summer Palace complex.
After your visit to the Bang Pa-In Palace, you could fly over the Chao Phraya river by a small cable car and visit a nice monastery park and enjoy the Chao Phraya river view.
Bang Pa-In Royal Palace is open daily from 08:00 to 16:00.
Bank Pa-In ticket is 100 BTH per adult ticket.
Bang Pa-In Palace complex is definitely one of the main answers to what to do in Bangkok and we highly recommend putting it as well as the Ayutthaya visit on your list of things to do in Bangkok or Thailand.
This is a high-quality travel vlog video for Bang Pa-In Palace visit in 4K HDR 60 FPS.
