or why I dont drive behind trucks....at all. I will pull over and wait a couple of minutes, just to make sure that I am not the one behind them. No where near them actually
you should always drive carefully when anywhere NEAR a truck..I've been a truck driver for 9 years...i've seen people do some pretty stupid things trying to get around "the big slow truck"..sometimes I wonder how these people make it to their destination alive..
People are clueless, its not the malibu that fails but the guard on the truck that bends and allow for ANY auto to basically become impaled under it. This car is actually a safety top pic.
My mother bought a twenty-two year old Mercades Bens about a month ago. The old thing works perfectly, the only problem is that it smells like overly-perfumed church lady when she turns the air on, Lol! Anyway, I can't remember what channel it was on, but they were testing a Merc's durability throughout four episodes, and I must say my mother made a good choice. It survived extremely rough terrain (1st test), it survived engine failure due to being submerged in water (2nd test), it survived a monster truck (3rd test) AND it survived a grenade, an old style cannon AND a stick of dynamite to the engine! I was like, "Surely this car won't survive THIS time". No. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It started up again. This was one of the most stubborn cars I'd ever seen.
+kx250fmotocross but if you can't stop then aim for center, its better to accelerate than to brake because braking makes your cars front dip down and you get a lower hit point, if you accelerate your car lifts up and prevents from hitting you hard
The way I use to stop and/or reduce speed is breaking and down shifting the quickest and while I can. If this don't work the alternative is let the car go.
Looks like it's time for the rest of the world to take a leaf out of Australia's book. At the slight disadvantage of a longer wheelbase, we mount our trailer axles at the very rear of the unit. In all of the 30% offset tests, the under-ride bar would play no part, as the car's front would contact the trailer tyres (or as you guys spell it tires) long before the passenger compartment reaches any part of it. Although having just watched the updated test, seems some real improvements have been made.
It wasn't the car they were testing it was the trailer. The Chevy Malibu was the safest car in it's category and that's why they used it. They are showing that different brands of trailers have different results.
o.m.a. S Watch the regular 40% overlap tests for pickups....they are some of the worst out there for safety, they fold like a house of cards! My advice would be to buy a normal car that is safe (like a volvo) and if you are about to hit the back of a trailer....SWERVE! Almost anything else you hit will be much less dangerous!
Fucking Bullshit! Makes me feel so unsafe! It should be mandatory by law to have new trailers with underride guards that actually work! And old trailers have to get them fitted! By Law!
Better idea, dont tailgate trucks and stay alert while driving, that way you dont rear end one in the first place. And if your too stupid to understand that concept and you find yourself under the back of a trailer, natural selection at its finest
Jeep19XJ91 Oh wow really, I'm always alert and never call or text! Sometimes something can happen and you end up smashing into one! Anything can happen, and you acting like your some driving God! Pfffff!!!

True. It seems regulation they do reinforce, but they failed to reinforce the a few feet on each side. There is a 'bumper' on the trailer but no extra support on the outside of it, so of course it bends on impact. This needs to change.
Ryan Waterhouse not necessarily! If you hit a truck like that with a 30% overlap then more than likely you're dead regardless of whether or not that railing is there lol
if they railing is there it shows in they crash that you acutely hit them airbag, without/ broken railing you don't even get the chance to hit them airbag, because you hit them truck before the bag

Why not make the rear bumper on semi trailers a solid bar? Yes, it'd be heavier and yes there'd be some lost productivity due to the weight, but I'm sure that'd be cheaper than a wrongful death lawsuit
Yes, drive safe for only 3 to 4 days then its back to what are the odds. People don't like to be considered a slow poke, especially when traveling in succession.
Just for clarification, because some people seem to not get it. This isn't a test about the Malibu. It's testing the bars on the trailers. Cars should not be able to break them.
If cars were hard like a brick- in minor accidents after an instant stop from accident every internal organ inside you will switch places with one another .. in best case.. in worst you just die from brain hitting your scalp 60mph. I actually saw a lady die from a crash just like this on a interstate in FL near Disney (i4). A box truck was missing the entire bumper bar assembly that's supposed to make contact with a car if it gets rear ended and the lady's car went straight underneath the truck and killed the driver. Eu trailers use smaller wheels thus lowering the chance of getting under, they also have wheels placed further back so there's less space for the car to crash into. Just take a look at Krone or Kögel.
I have seen plenty underride crashes in the EU. The "underride protection" on EU trailers are certified to withstand 11 tons of force. And thats nothing against moving car. That equals ca 15kmh crash. In 1200 KG car.
The title is misleading they are crash testing the trailers and thair bars and how well they work at preventing cars forom going underneath the trailer.
3:14 After successfully destroying the 1959 Bel Air, the Malibu faces a new challenge. 3:26 It fails and the Malibu is defeated 6:01 Malibu comes back and safely succeeds
I don't know much but I studied plane crashes for 10 years. I learned alot about many things like driving and flying at night is 2x as dangerous so I avoid that. This year in canada we have 67 dead in Transport accidents. The other night 2 fuel trucks ran into stiopped cars on the 400 and you could see flames and explosions for miles as 3 family men died. Texters are everywhere runing into your lane ,road rage is up,careless driving is away up. So I'm retirning in 2019 and we are buying a truck and trailer. I'm studying the armour protection bumper after seeing how it turns the texters car into a crumple zone and avoids your wheel pinning you in a fire. Knowledge is power and the roads are a killing zone today.
Unless you are driving an SUV or truck that super offset test will kill any driver in any car! That corner of the trailer has nothing but glass to stop it. I think overall the malibu did great, Would love to see some other cars, Honda, Toyota and Dodge in the same tests
Prince Tae they cost to much so they don't do them in the US they just have the government to them but the government crash tests are not posted on u tub
Prince Tae you'll see a small scrap pile of remnants of what used to be a 2.3 million dollar car and millions of pieces of cf, plastic, and body parts.
I know first hand what happens to a car that hits an 18 wheeler. I'm a truck driver and I was hit while at a full stop in traffic. The car that hit me was a newer Mercedes-Benz and hit me at 70 mph. The driver showed no signs of slowing and was believed to be on the cell phone. The female driver was pronounced dead at the scene and she had to be cut out of the car. Moral of the story: DONT TAILGATE AND GET OFF THE PHONE! Driving like a mad man only saves you a minute or two but can cost a life.
I hope only trailers that can pass all of these tests are allowed to be registered and go on the road. How hard can it be to build a crash bar for fucks sake

Aaron DeForest But your head doesn't hit the under ride guard. The front of the car does
But then theirs the weight problems and thye have enough regulations as is.
Aaron DeForest You're not kidding about the regulations. But, in this case, I think tougher regulations on the under ride guard would be a good thing
why though make better stopping technology for the car.

Thats because in America, everything needs to be big and powerful, regardless of safety or economy. It's just the right, and american thing to do.
That's the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard. If that were true, why are they testing these trailers?
To make them safer, Derp.
Sam wasn't saying it's right, it's more of a "That's just the stupid mentality that uneducated people have here" reply.
dammit, talk about getting a face full of trailer, never liked the malibus anyway . damnnnn
Ll Lock this can happen to any car
Ll Lock the test has nothing to do with the Malibu other than it being one of the safest sedans. The test is for the trailers
I'm scared now, but that's why u keep ur eye on the road and no texting 😱
5:15 stance life bro
Vortex if that Malibu was stance it would look horrible and the driver would be dead
The title is misleading they are crash testing the trailers and thair bars and how well they work at preventing cars forom going underneath the trailer.
The scary thing about the Wabash and Utility trailers is that if the wheels were farther forward the car would have just kept going.
exactly!

After successfully destroying the 1959 Bel Air, the Malibu faces a new challenge.

It fails and the Malibu is defeated

Malibu comes back and safely succeeds
John Roberts their testing the under-ride guard on the truck. Not the car.
I think the biggest thing these tests prove is that underride guards need to be much stronger. In some of those tests, they crumpled like paper.
wow cant believe they always repaired that malibu after each crash.
well duhh itd get pretty expensive crashing & trashing cars
NWO Fan your a dumbass
NWO Fan Chevrolet sent them a car for every test
This'll remind me to pass any utility trailer on the highway.
I know it's a crash dummy but I cringed and almost wanted to throw up. Ugh
Dammit I Just cleaned that floor
Unless you are driving an SUV or truck that super offset test will kill any driver in any car! That corner of the trailer has nothing but glass to stop it. I think overall the malibu did great, Would love to see some other cars, Honda, Toyota and Dodge in the same tests
3:44 ouchy
No Malibus where harmed in the making of this
I wanna see a Bugatti Veyron 200 mph head on wall crash 🙃
USB- C Port steal = theft etcetera, STEEL, a mixture of carbon and iron.
Easiest way to make your car a convertible.
The Chevy Malibu is not the one being tested here, but the rear rail guards in several trailer brands. Misleading title, or just click bait?
