I love your video because it was the easiest of the three that I watched. Other people unbolted the seat, but it was not necessary. I was able to raise the seat up and back, which gave access to the part. It really was a five minute job and totally fixed the issue! Thanks

Dude u removed the rod without having to disconnect the battery, disconnect cables, or removing e12 bolts to tilt the seat back.

I, too, had seen other videos of having to unbolt the seat and was stalling because that seemed like an extreme effort. However finally went back to find those videos and ran across THIS one!!!! 5 minutes later and the problem is fixed! Thanks so much!

Thank you for the fix! I just did this on my Mazda3 and it worked perfectly. The only difference was that I found it easier to insert the replacement cable on the motor side first then inserted it into the gearbox.

Hi. If i were to try lubricating it to see results before replacing the part. Where should i spray WD-40 at ? Thank you
Really need to replace this rod, which is a driveshaft. It is not a lubrication issue. The rod is worn.
The metal rod is surrounded by fabric and encased in the plastic cylinder. Simply pull the metal rod out from the plastic cylinder and you will see the fabric shroud. Use something like white lithium grease, high temperature automotive grease, or even a thin coat of gear oil. WD-40 might work but will probably require reapplication within a couple of years or less. The fabric will retain a lot of the lubricant. When you reinsert the rod make sure to move it back and forth within the plastic cylinder as well as rotating it backwards and forwards. This will make sure the lubricant is well distributed.
