      YES! A Fire extinguisher is a MUST have. And, put one in your VW too!

    Magnetic lights and an angle grinder are extremely necessary too. I wish I was half as organized as you; very impressive.

    All those things you mentioned are spot on, but one thing you need to add and is number one on the list, Fire Extinguisher.
    With all the chemicals, solvents, welders, heat wrenches….Fire suppression is a must!

    A curtain that runs in a track on the ceiling or a shower curtain around the "Dirty Area' can really help keeping the rest of the shop clean. If you need to grind or buff some parts, pull the curtain and it stays contained to that area. Thanks for sharing the adventures ✌

      I used to have a really good one of these but the retract part stopped working. I am so dependent now on my headlight, I burn thru AAA batteries sometimes in a day!

    4 point jack stands with safety lock pin. I use larger stands that don't need to be extended too far.

    If you’re thinking of picking up one of the HF tool boxes, I highly suggest it. The depth of the drawers compared to the Craftsman box (I have one too), makes it well worth it.

    Torque wrenches, a set of ring installation tools (I like the sleeves versus the compression type tools), and a ring removal tool with a ring grinder to set ring gap. Bore gauge for getting the right bearing clearance, although it's not needed for mild engines and stock engines. A flywheel lock is really handy and the torque multiplication tool for removing and installing flywheels which is also great for axle nuts. A really nice air compressor goes a long way in your shop too, and a welder. Even if your not fabricating anything, a welder is your friend for removing broken off studs.

    Always like to see these how to and what you need to make the job easier. I like to lay out a piece of brown craft paper on top of the workbench with a sharpie to identify parts and location

    Appreciate the effort you do to keep bringing good tips (educational) on your channel. But what I want to know is info on the insulation in Gilbert. I'm to that point for my bay and could use some "pointers." Thanks Gary.

      Charles! Thank you for watching. As for the insulation on Gilbert. I go top HomeDepot and get a roll of that insulation you put around your hot water heater. It is plastic, holds up well, and does not retain moisture. I use 3M 90 Spray adhesive. I also, double up the insulation. Super easy to trim with a razor blade too!

    The only thing I would add is if your buying a bench grinder don't buy less than one horse power. The less powerful ones tend to stall out.

      I should have made a video non the install of the scrapers on Gilbert, but I don't think the censors on UA-cam would have let it by! I will say this, I made a tool out of wood to 'pop' in the rubber wire clips, works like a champ!

    A comprehensive list! Thanks Gary, the tool rundown videos are always appreciated. Quick question on the point you made about reusing your original VW hardware; once wire wheeled back to clean steel, what kind of polish are you using to prevent future rusting? Something generic like Autosol or something more specialist?

    Looks so good, but people need to know it took you years to get it like that unless someone have a bottomless check book.       Wade, so very true, I have been building and adding and collecting tools and such for 50 years plus. That old Sears floor jack is a good example. I bought that when I bought the "Vette" back in 1978! the Che-Vette!

    I don’t think you fully understand how significant documenting this stuff is. I’m a Zoomer and most of my generation wouldn’t know where to begin setting up a shop. This is common sense knowledge that you take for granted. It’s not all that common with my generation. Just hasn’t been passed on.
