Being an author myself, these are a true joy and inspiration to listen to. I write make a list and research the books that I have not yet read.
The last page in the Great Gatsby was mentioned. It was referred as being one of the greatest pros ever written.
And it truly lives up to Burroughs glorification of it.
it is a wonderful piece of work that I would never found if I had not watched these classes on creative writing. Thank you greatly to whoever is posting these.
They are timeless end of impact to anyone aspiring to write novels themselves.

The Great Gatsby have been known as a famous piece of litterature for many ,many years, since Fitzgerald got it printed, and you saying a writing school got you turned on to that work, just shows that youre way too early into a writing school. After my opinion. No offence. But off course itll sting.Hehe.

Someone not reading Gatsby is normal.
Just like a university english studies class never reads 1984.
They read the old classics. The originals of originals, Shakespeare and Romans and whatnot. Not modern stories that retell those classic formulas.

    "...published by *Gaylimmard,* 1924."
Burroughs is hilarious. So glad I'm not alone in being scandalized by how little credit Conrad gets for his dark-comic sense! I was shocked to here Burroughs confess he'd not yet read "An Outpost of Progress" (!!), but surely he got around to it eventually!! So far this Conrad storystill stands (in my experience, anyway) as the single most brilliant satire on European colonialism in general and of the British colonizing of Africa in particular.
I wonder if anyone knows whether Burroughs ever went on to discuss this story anywhere, in print or otherwise? I think he would have adored this story---maybe Kayerts or whatever the short fat one's name was shows up somewhere in the Western Lands? I can't recall...better keep looking.
Thanks for posting these lectures!!!! The Tape Recorder proves indeed to have functioned as "God's little toy" in this case!
