I LOVE this video. How many of us and how many of our ancestors have taken a solo trip into nature. Its primal, grounding, medicine for the planet. Thanks for this and for being a great photographer in general.
So awesome! I lived on the north shore, for 2 years, and had a canoe. Being cradled in the arms of those mountains was highly appreciated, every day. 👍🇨🇦😆🌍💙🙏
What a beautiful, meditative escape from reality. We can't imagine a better use for our kayaks than this right here - using rivers to unplug and reconnect with ourselves and the world. Thank you for sharing!
Wow, what a find running into your channel. So beautiful. My Mother's family was one of the first to homestead in Argenta around 1938. I spent many a summer in Argenata, Kaslo, Lardeau, Trout Lake etc. I miss it so much. I return when I can. You capture the majesty of the area beautifully. Thank you....
We really are! You should totally get an inflatable kayak! They don't take up any space, they are so quick and easy to set up and use, they're impossible to tip and affordable. I use an Aquaglide and I absolutely love it! If you have any questions I'm happy to help.
I appreciate the effort you put into this video. I camp alone as well and love it but, never that far north in BC Canada. I would worry about bears at night but, the fire and smell should keep them at bay I would guess. Be safe out there.
Nice stuff Jessie. Paddling on the lake is very calming. I too like the situation of calm water next to rock walls/cliffs. North of Slocan on the east shore, accross from Evens cr. Is good for that , as is south of Bannock point. Most of my time has been on Slocan lake, september is quite nice. I have only done winter kayaking a couple of times, on the slocan river. It was cold, lol. Keep up the good work.
Pretty nice video. I expected more snow for winter camping. Was hoping for those pretty snowy scene. Its not even very low on the mountains. Looks more like fall.
Thanks! I hear ya, It's been one of the strangest winters I've ever experienced. We just had 4 days of rain and still no snow in the valley bottom. It's like springtime out here right now. I've been wanting to do a proper winter camping video on the water but the weather hasn't cooperated this year.
Hey Jesse, great video. Looks like it was an awesome trip. A couple of questions for you. We're you just setting up pretty much anywhere along the shore or are those designated camp sites? How far north were you able to paddle on that trip? Thinking about heading out that way in the spring for a few days to explore with the kayak.
Thanks Allen, it was a great trip. There are a number of beaches and camping locations along the way. I didn't stay at any designated camp sites. If you go before high water you will find lots of places to camp. I paddled from Kaslo all the way to the north shore. The north end is probably my favourite place to camp with about 2km of sandy beach and all the firewood you could ever want. The east shore is a little more rocky so it's not as easy to get off the water but once again there are lots of places to camp along the way. It's a great trip, I've done it a few times. It always takes me 4 days to go from Kaslo to the north end and back.
People keep telling me to stay away from kootenay lake with my small boat and i want to do the same thing as you. They are saying the waves get insane, like 7 feet type stuff?!
A lot of people told me I was nuts. To be honest that was one of my favourite winter trips that I've done. These people don't know what they're missing out on. If you're prepared and you don't mind getting a little wet it's so worth it! Yeah there were some big waves the one day but so what, I'm still alive.
@@JesseSchpakowski My boat is a bass raider. Incredibly stable but virtually sitting at water line with very little in the way of walls. Saw more videos last night that confirmed id be a soggy camper. Lol Ive taken it through a wakeboard competition on windermere and it handled great. Just a matter of the right clothes to stay dry. Ill try to remember to link a vid once i compile and upload it.
@@andrewbrown6522 it’s easy to underestimate how big kootenay lake is. It’s over 100km long, averages several Kilometres across, and has very few sheltered bays. The weather can change very fast, and when the wind gets blowing, you can easily see 5-6 foot waves. Not something I’d want to be caught in, in something like a bass boat.
@@albinorhino6 Well... i got to do a portion of my originally planned trip. 170km but starting in invermere and down to ft steele. Definitely wouldn't want to get caught in 4 foot waves when fully loaded. Might not flip or anything but trying to keep things dry would be a nightmare.
@@JesseSchpakowski Tried from invermere to koocanusa but got screwed for my resupy at canal flats so had to race for ft steele before i ran out and it beat me to shit. Lol

I completely agree with you! I love my solo trips, there's something very special about them. I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! Thank you.

Thank you, that's awesome!
This film made me smile the entire time. Thank you.
I appreciate hearing that, thanks so much!
Brilliant mate. Solo are sometimes the best trips. What a beautiful part of the world. So lucky. PS great photography!
Thank you! I love my solo adventures!
Speechless....wordless... Thank you...
Thank you
We spend a lot of time on and around Kootenay Lake. Winter has a special solitude.
This is a great video of beautiful winter mountains and lakes. !!
I feel you brother,I go on bike trips, camping on my RV alone a lot. I am moving to Nelson from Calgary next month.
Right on, there's so much to explore out here!
This video makes me want to get out of dodge and go off grid even more. British Columbia’s kootneys truly are beautiful
With the way the world is going I hear you. The Kootenays sure are a beautiful escape!
This made me want to move by Kootenay lake.
You should, it's beautiful out here!

Thanks so much Aquaglide!
It's a lake, not a river 😉

Thank you so much! That's such neat history about your family. Thank you for sharing.
My grandmas family grew up in Argenta too. I just explored it recently this summer. Very interesting place!
We are so fortunate to live here! Thanks Jesse. This is making me think I need an inflatable kayak.

Very nice demonstration of drone video shoots
Thank you!
Great video, you, Brandy and the Grumble are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place!!
Thanks so much!

Thank you, it was a lot of work, especially making the trip in November. I loved every minute of it though!

Wow! Jesse finally watched this. Absolutely stunning scenery. So cool!
Aawww thanks so much Shawna, glad you enjoyed it!

That's me!

I hope it didn't make you too homesick.
