Seeing the old Poughkeepsie billboard, makes me wish I could revisit Poughkeepsie in the 60s and 70s, I do remember coming down DeGarmo road from school and seeing the smoke from the bridge fire in 74
That's a beautiful presentation of the New Haven. Everything looks great. No matter what the participants in this display think of themselves, this is a Professional Layout. My compliments to everyone involved.
@02:56 Love the C&O boxcar. @04:12 Love the NYC boxcar. Downtown area looks great too. AA++ on the Poughkeepsie bridge, a true work of art. Tons & tons of structures and small details is a sensory overload of eye candy, I know you put a ton of time and effort (and $$$) into all of that. @14:00 Love that bridge too. It seems your operational aspect is spot on and only some minor terrain/detailing still needs to be done but I am watching this 7 years after the fact LOL. I am just in awe about the number and sizes of the structures you have used, "We're not in Kansas anymore"
Wow!! Such a great layout...great representation of former NYC/ New Haven!! I've got a SMALL layout-roughly 4x8- of NYNH&H but nothing close to this. Pondering disassembling it. Grappling with the thought! IF!! I do it would be satisfying to me to pass on items to your endeavors.
Great layout.I grew up in Danbury and in Westport Ct.I remember the NH trains going through downtown Danbury on their way to Maybrook past the Danbury Fair.
I'm absolutely amazed by your layout! I really love those Alco FA units, they looks great, as well as your other locomotives, I thought I saw an FL9 or two there, perhaps. The Poughkeepsie Bridge over the Hudson really blew me away, it looks phenomenal!
Thank you. I am new to the New Haven but your layout seems to capture a really interesting railroad. Hello👍from across the pond. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers.
Dave, I grew up in the shadow of that bridge and took countless trains (mostly Budd RDC cars) from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central Station in New York City. Thanks!
Fantastic layout. all you need to do now is go up on top of that bridge this summer, take a picture facing south and have it blown up into a 1:87 backdrop at a photo shop. That would be the Coup de grace.
Truly fantastic just all of it !! I love your use of scenery towns Bridges what's a very nice trucks detail is amazing, it is all first right you should be very proud and a great representation of the New Haven !! 👌
Excellent layout. I grew up near Poughkeepsie and I’ve always had a fascination with it. As you probably know it’s now a walkway. My brother is an engineer for Metro North and he runs trains out of Poughkeepsie to GCT on the Hudson line. He got a kick out of the smith street yard. It’s long gone. It’s now a parking lot for the station.
love the layout and your commentary on the train movements make sure the repacks are in date and lots of lube oil in the journal boxes on the two Needham Packing reefers. we don't want any train delay or down time on our on time dependable freight services. Great video.
Dave, this is fabulous. You've really captured the dirty, congested feel of eastern urban railroading. The bridge is great, of course. But all the overpasses. And best of all is the elevation of the track with the urban scenes down below ... not only below but towards the rear. I don't know if I've ever seen that done as well as you. I would love to see this layout in person sometime.
I love your layout. Being from CT my dad modeled the New Haven in HO when I was a kid. Now I am in N scale and model CSX around the time they bought half of Conrail. I sometimes want to sell all my modern equipment and model the New Haven.
Update: I have gathered quite an extensive collection of New Haven engines and period rolling stock in the 2 months since my last comment so I am going for it and modeling the New Haven. Love to look to layouts like yours for inspiration even though I am going to model Providence.
I dont mean to be off topic but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot my password. I love any assistance you can give me
@Julian Taylor i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
New Haven to maybrook. Hell of a route to model. Very good job, I mean in real life it was hills & narrow winding track up the Housatonic from Bridgeport then the country & that bridge. Need to put the tunnel in at Newtown.
Extraordinary! One of the 3-4 best private layouts I've seen on UA-cam. I tip my cap, sir. Oh, and thank you for running the locomotives at scale velocities appropriate for the terrain and the loads. All too often, I see trains on video zooming past at scale speeds of 90 MPH or faster. Ruins the experience. Too bad you don't have any catenary portions of the NH modeled. You have no excuse to buy an EP-5 from Rapido.
I thought the bridge was truly spectacular... and your rolling stock is nice... almost dirty enuf lol . I had to stop because your camera panning was to quick and too jerky (made me a little seasick but I have a glass stomach) All in all tho' twas great and I dig the layout... (detailing is never done)
I believe you can use an old broom handle to steady the camera and it'll make a huge difference... Outside of more detailing, what's next for your layout?
Wow, I am impressed. I know the NHRR from Bay Ridge in Brooklyn, and from riding from GCT to New London, when I was in the Navy. Do you have a track plan? Thank you for sharing!
That's an impressive layout. I was wondering if you could help me with something since it seems you are very well informed about the NHRR. When I was a kid I used to watch trains pass by my family's summer house on Whaley Lake in NY state. Between the years 1975-1979, though I'm estimating. Whose line was it and what would I have been seeing? those years effected me very deeply and I went on to work for Conrail and later CSX when they took us over. I have since left the USA and now live in Argentina, but in 2018 I plan on writing my memoirs and I'd love to have accurate information regarding those formative years.
That was this line, although by then (1975) westbound trains were headed to Selkirk yard instead of Maybrook. Search Conrail NHSE to see videos of trains on this line. Before New Haven it was New York and New England.
When the train is leaving the yard (in the first 2 minutes of the video) what is the train length, looks like about 20 cars. Is that your avg train length during operating sessions? BTW nice video, thanks for the HD!!!!!
Nice layout. You're a good modeler. How big is your layout? What era is it? You think you can do a "cabride" clip of the portion of the layout that's finished? Thumbs up!
Seeing the old Poughkeepsie billboard, makes me wish I could revisit Poughkeepsie in the 60s and 70s, I do remember coming down DeGarmo road from school and seeing the smoke from the bridge fire in 74
Wow! That long bridge is fantastic!
That's a beautiful presentation of the New Haven. Everything looks great. No matter what the participants in this display think of themselves, this is a Professional Layout. My compliments to everyone involved.
Great video and great layout. Simply spectacular.

just simply beautiful. well done indeed.
Very nice. Especially the big bridge.
Very nice, ‘enjoy’ ! 👽
7:25 Spectacular bridge. Great layout! Intro music is a stone groove, too.
That bridge is a pedestrian walkway now.
Excellent layout, would love to see it in person!

Very nice thanks for sharing

Awesome model of the bridge at Poughkeepsie!
I've driven under the Poukeepsie bridge & it's amazing how high it is, You have done a great job modeling it.
Marvelous scenery and structures. And oh that bridge!
An amazing layout and trains.
Great layout! Maybrook was a major interchange for many eastern railroads!
Wonderful rail movie !!! Excellent
this is very nice movie film
GREAT VIDEO AND GREAT LOOKING LAYOUT!

As a rail fan, I love the layout! As an HVAC technician, I love the Trane advertisement on that one building !

Great video, Dave! I've got to see this railroad one of these days.
This line was not active for over 40 years.
Love your layout. Hate hearing those Hancock Air Whistles on those GP-9's LOL!
Awesome!
That was awesome!!! May I come there to do some switching? Happy Railroading!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure hope this fine railroad is still being run and enjoyed? Would love to see more action on this great pike!

What a fantastic layout SIR! New sub here
Awesome
nice pike. thanks for sharing. I was just curious why you don't weather your track?

Whenever I watch videos like this, my girlfriend always says, "Don't get any ideas." I'm sure others know the struggle.
my girlfriend don't like trains so we aren't together anymore. just kidding, shes dead
You want to put up with a girl like that who won't support your interests, but requires you to support hers? Trains are more important.
Was there all those buildings on the north side of the tracks behind Parker ave.? There was a 18 foot drop about 8 feet from the main line.
Who makes the photo backdrop at 7:57?
Great layout. I like the use of elevated scenes and many buildings.
Beutiful man but u need to hide the wall sockets if u can how many ft of track i their.
Your structures and scenery provide a fantastic stage on which to run trains. Do you have operating signals?
That's an impressive layout. I was wondering if you could help me with something since it seems you are very well informed about the NHRR. Minimal Impossibe .It was the trains for the local merchants on the line between Poughkeepsie and Danbury you were seeing.
1975 it would have been Penn Central until Conrail in 1976
When the train is leaving the yard (in the first 2 minutes of the video) what is the train length, looks like about 20 cars. Is that your avg train length during operating sessions? BTW nice video, thanks for the HD!!!!!
What company made those gp9s
Nice layout. You're a good modeler. How big is your layout? What era is it? You think you can do a "cabride" clip of the portion of the layout that's finished? Thumbs up!
500 th sub!
Did you model Brookfield / Danbury?
This line goes near my house. Its abandoned today
Looks great except for your track should have weathered your track for a more realistic look
"Crappie call phone videos ". Have you considered the shadows or a tripod, in your video?
