    I've read that unopened milk is still good two weeks after the date stamped on it and tried if and yep! It was good and I used it within the week. Very cool. I really don't worry much about dates anymore. I also used Bar-B-Q sauce 2 years past the date. Perfect. I read THAT can go 3 years past the date. Use within 2 months when opened. Good to know! NICE haul there!!

      @MamaToAll_Homestead it's very easy, just wrap it up in a load of towels to keep the warmth in while it incubated. If you have an instant pot, or can borrow one, they have a yoghurt setting that works brilliantly. You can keep a cup of your home made yoghurt to start the next batch. You can also strain the yoghurt through a cloth and mix in a bit of salt and any spices or herbs you fancy, to make labneh soft cheese.

    Side note: Love your T-shirt, Savannah is my favorite US city, and love visiting whenever we can!! I’m confused about why canning milk is “going rogue” I mean, condensed milk and evaporated milk are canned…shelf stable regular milk exists (I don’t know how they do that, but they do.) Would love to see the video on it! I really wish companies would start making things like Cole slaw with a Splenda/Stevia/Equal whatever sweetener as an option. If it weren’t for the sugar in the dressing, that would be almost no carbs at all. (I like the vinaigrette Cole slaw more myself.) Those gold potatoes will make amazing mashed potatoes (and the organic will taste better, usually) yummmm. I’ve seen a video on how to get the pomegranate to sort of fall apart and be really juicy…so look for one, there’s an easy technique. If you have old panty hose or tights, take those onions, drop in hose leg, tie a knot, and repeat, hang them up somewhere dark and cool and dry…and those will last for months and months. This haul is so amazing!!! It might be worth taking the afternoon off on an occasional Friday! That would be hundreds of dollars at the store!! (But I totally understand that that’s not always feasible!!) NOTE: I checked the tea out, it has zero carbs, no sugar added, so you’re good! Enjoy!

    • @MamaToAll_Homestead
      @MamaToAll_Homestead  6 місяців тому +2

      Can I just say that you are the best!!! Thank you for looking up the Tea for me.... And yes I do agree, why can't they make it with a sugar alternative or no sugar at all. When I make my cole slaw at home I don't use any sweetener in it at all and it's perfect. Those potatoes will make some amazing mashed potatoes. Might have to sneak a small bite... lol Yes I am going to sort through the onions and get them hung up so that they will last a while. Thank you for being so informative!!! Again you're the best.

      @@MamaToAll_Homestead That’s so nice of you!!! Thank you!!!! You give so many great tips and are so open and supportive of people who (like me) have gotten into hard times occasionally…and had no idea this was available!!! Food banks would have been a godsend 4 years ago for us, but instead, we scrimped, had no Christmas, ate poorly from cheap stuff we could afford, and were scared all the time. I had food scarcity for a short period in college, and it messed with my head about having food available. It really is a frightening thing to not know where your next meal is coming from. Also, you give such great help about storing, how to use something in a meal (never would have thought of turning taquitos into enchiladas!) and what to do with something like a green pepper with a funny spot on it (like cut that off and the rest should be okay, slice them and freeze them.) There are so many people out there like you and me, who work hard (or like me, worked hard, medical crisis, had to medically retire…I have a great retirement plan, but it’s definitely not what we were making) and then life throws fun things at you: fridge dies, basement sewer pipe backs up, car dies…all of a sudden you have a new bill, you’ve used all of your savings for just keeping a roof over your head…and now you’re scared and don’t know how you’re going to pay for things. You have a nice house, decent vehicles, nice clothes and appliances…all from before…I can’t go buy those things now! But, that doesn’t also mean we don’t struggle to make ends meet. You don’t have to be ragged and homeless to need help, and there’s nothing wrong with asking for it (I’m a prideful person, it’s hard to ask, but your message has helped me to see that I have nothing to be ashamed of to ask for help. I didn’t do this to myself, it all just happened out of my control. Welcome to life!) So, your channel is a great service that you do that helps so many…you have taught me so much about saving food, storing it, and that food banks are just THERE, they exist for everyone…I wish I’d known that four years ago. If things get any tighter here, I know I can go and get food and help us make it. That is such a stress reliever, you have no idea. So, there’s probably lots of people just like me who watch and may not leave a comment…and your great attitude and explanation just saved that person. Keep up your awesome work, and I’ll continue to cheer you on. (P.S., so glad you got monetized!!!)

      Are you truly suggesting that someone take time off from WORK to go to a food bank and take advantage of a program meant for people that are living hand to mouth? Trying to make yourself a hero for taking free food meant for the TRULY needy “because it would be wasted if you don’t” is a clearly self justification for what is basically stealing. Not sure who raised you, or all the people applauding your greed, but it’s shocking to me.

      @@mollymollie6048 Darling Molly, Are you the kiddo that loves the taco bell ranch tacos? I wish you a life filled with the happy satisfaction that comes with working hard, and knowing that you can take care of yourself and your family without taking the food from the mouths of people that are truly without means. The time spent making haul vlogs and sitting in cars waiting for handouts, could be spent working another job to support the family. Taking when your pantry is full is greedy and in fact, doesn’t encourage people to donate, it make them feel used to see people that appear to be taking advantage of their generosity. You’re going to ruin it for those that are going to bed cold and hungry. It’s a shame your Momma isn’t raising you to know that. Not cool.

      Hey, so just as some of my amazing followers have said.... wow and have you ever thought about how life can change. You never know when you may find yourself in need of a hand up and I surely hope that you never encounter someone as yourself. Saying the things you said can discourage someone to not go and get the help that they may need. You won't affect me though. Just think before you speak. You don't know me or my financial situation. I am trying to break the stigma surrounding food banks. Yes people with nice big kitchens and multiple animals can go receive food from local food banks right along side those that may be homeless. It's not our job to discriminate based off of what one may have. Just because they have a place to live doesn't mean they are well off.

    • @jennifermunn6898
      @jennifermunn6898 6 місяців тому +7

      @leelaural people can lose jobs, prices go up on gas and groceries or medical issues and need money to see doctors, these are just a few problems that might affect our middle class who don’t qualify for help like food stamps cause they chose to stay in their home, car etc and pay it but need a little help with the crazy prices at the grocery store as we all deserve to eat and to eat as healthy as possible, and lastly when is the last time you saw a homeless person standing in a food bank line? Honestly think about it, most the food they have no where to keep it cold and safe like a freezer or fridge, they have no way to cook it like a oven, so they basically need ready to go stuff and at a food bank you can’t be choosy, but yes the homeless can go to one just like your middle class trying to hold on to things they worked there whole life for, why don’t you try to be kind and maybe even with all that time volunteer to food bank then you’ll get it! I am proud of Amber, it takes a lot to set all our proud aside and go to a food bank knowing you need the help and being ashamed to ask (at least in my experience I was ashamed I had to go and ask) but they immediately told me I was worthy of the food and made me feel welcome and not bad at all! So think before you speak 💯
