  • This video is about the fossil preparation of a large ammonite that I found. See the rock i found it in👉by watching “I can't believe I found this fossil hunting surprise! “🤔(Part 1) Thanks 🙏 for the opening description from writer ✍️ Tracy Sallows ( “Curious and Rare” on Instagram) Tracy Sallows wrote “Touch that fossil and you reach through an unfathomable amount of time.”Thanks Lizzie Hingley for all the great filming she did on this video. Thanks Lizzie for the fossil prep tutelage.Lizzie Hingley is on Instagram she is @ stonebarrow_fossils. The best fossils are found at low tide. I hope you find some fossils along the Jurassic Coast-at low tide. I did a two year lapidary course learning how to use the machinery and learning about the safety aspects of the work involved. Safety is paramount when engaging in these activities. I have safety spectacles and sturdy gloves 🧤 for the work and other equipment! Sometimes fossil hunting turns out to be treasure hunting, it’s fun just to see the “ treasures” on the large rocks. The Jurassic Coast really does have some stunning fossils. I recommend wearing safety glasses and sturdy rubber gloves when hammering the right little rocks. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. Keep away from the dangerous cliffs. The best fossils are washed out onto the beaches at low tide, by the sea's actions. Look out for the slippery seaweed on the ledges and rocks. I offer fossil walks along the Jurassic Coast on the following website, so feel free to take a look at the website I made, with our online fossil walks ------www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com There is a fossil collecting code of conduct in place along the Jurassic Coast- #fossils#fossilhunter#ammonite

    we loved the video!!...as you know we prefer the long versions over the shorts👍...amazing what you can do with all the right equipment.
    Those ammonites Chris had cut in half ready for polishing are they from Lyme as we didn't recognise the stone/rock??
    Keep up the good work. Nigel & Trudie
    p.s i dont know if i had too many beers last night...but that looked like a yacht had been washed up onto the bay 🤔(on the webcam)

      Well noticed someone just sent me a picture of a washed up yacht 🛥️ yes 🙌! - in the local news ! The ammonites Chris worked on were from the junction beds and they get found in Somerset. Thanks 🙏 for the comments

    Really interesting, thanks for sharing.
    Must be quite scary hitting that rock. I've been collecting at Dorset since 1983 when my Grandparents took me to Charmouth on holiday. I've got a few samples with what look to be good Ammonites in them that I've collected over the years, but I'm too scared to try and develop them. Living near Southampton, it's not like I can just nip to the beach and find some more!

      @LymeRegisFossils  11 місяців тому +1

      Very cool! That sounds like you’ve got some good ammonite specimens then that you’ve saved from the destruction of the sea 🌊! It’s lucky 🍀 I’ve hit a lot of those rocks 🪨 before and know what angles to look for whilst tapping at the rock . Not to say that I’m not scared , as I’m always on edge when doing that type of work.

    Hi Brandon. If we come down the steps from Charmouth road car park is it the beach to the left that's the best area to search or is there a better area please? Many thanks, Hayley.

      I have created a standard reply for the fossil walks at the moment. I am also in my shop in Lyme Regis running that a lot of the time. I will be fossil walking if you so wish to try this activity during October 2023 onwards ! Sorry we have no availability for fossil walks until then.Nigel Clark local authour he does the fossil walks at times he may have passed you my way . He gets very busy like me in the holidays . Some one I recommend for the fossil walks is @mikeharrisonsfossils on Instagram his mobile no. is 07526563997. You’re in safe hands on a fossil walk with MIke as he is a regular on the beach looking for fossils at low tide ! We have a video on UA-cam called "Ammonite Lyme Regis."My channel on UA-cam is “ Lyme Regis Fossils ,” if you’d like to view that please see the video I mentioned it really shows you how to find fossils properly at low tide- along the Jurassic Coast. You need a tide table book or knowledge of when it’s low tide here at Lyme Regis. You can go out an hour before low tide and hour after low tide looking East of Lyme Regis on the 2008 landslide . Thats a good place to sieve for fossils . We sell sieves at 7 Drakes Way , Lyme Regis DT7 3QP . Come to our shop for any more information you need on fossil collecting. We can give you the most up to date news possible on where to look and what to do on Lyme Regis East beach. Good luck on the beach and don’t venture near to the cliffs . The cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. The sea does the work for you washing the fossils out of mudslides and landslips.You have more beach to look at during low tide along the Jurassic Coast .Please see our video below on UA-cam, Thanks BrandonLennon….. “Black Ven Landslide , Lyme Regis , 11th November 20l21

    • @LymeRegisFossils
      @LymeRegisFossils  10 місяців тому

      Yes 🙌 ! it’s the beach to your left heading down the 114 steps from Charmouth Road Car Park 🅿️. Follow the new sea 🌊 wall East and walk down the steps - when it’s low tide . Head along the sand past Church Cliffs. Stay away from the dangerous cliffs that are liable to fall suddenly and without warning ⚠️! Head right down to where you can see the mud protruding out to sea ! The 2008 landslide has the fossils washing out of it and onto the beaches at low tide. Check out my UA-cam videos about how to collect them and prepare them ! Thanks 🙏
