    I've got to admit, I found heeled skates killed my feet because of the forced weight shift. Once I switched to flats for derby, I found this so much easier. A shame as there are so many pretty heeled boots out there.

    Ahh! No wonder my flat sketcher skates from high school are so squirrelly towards the back! Thank you! No wonder certain tricks were harder too. I’m gonna try them in a skate park now.
    And now I need another pair of skates

      I used to have some Britney Spears sketchers from the 90’s! The wheels on those work great outside.

    Well put, thank you! As an ice and inline skater, never intended to do roller skating before I saw your videos. Only today my slightly heeled skates arrived and I had to try them on the smooth concrete surface of the skate park. The shorter wheel base takes you by surprise and throws you off balance.. but then switching back to inlines feels weird since they have only one row of wheels! Looking forward to further instructional videos from you.

      Thank you so much. It’s always interesting to hear from other types of skaters. Inlines feel like skis to me! 😂

    Low-top jam skates (or at least mine) are rather unique:
    the heel is slightly raised, but their layout kinda raises
    your arches, which I think is useful for balance and
    equilibrium (not to mention comfort)

    Thank you for those useful information. The heel skates hurt the frontside of my ankles and gives shin splint. I think the flat skates will probably work better for me.

    Good video, thank you! Switching it up is good for cross training, for example doing pivots in speed/derby skates. It can give you more of a mastery of your skating. Having a heel makes a huge difference in some cases, especially "shoot-the-duck." With that trick, you may find that your speed skates tend to take off without you and leave you behind (or on your bum!)... and there is where the importance of weight distribution comes in (sometimes you have to concentrate on it).

    Finally, the "low heel then crouched stance" makes sense!!!! I had always thought "but lifted heels make it easier to crouch" (and indeed it helps to overcome mobility limitations), but now you've showed me that it is because low heel skates _requires_ some more crouching for balance.
    I'm not convinced about the jumping, though, because I tend to stretch my ankles and hit the toestop on the floor... I think the heel (which I use) should help prevent this a little, as it alows more stretching? Or I'm seeing through the wrong angle, just as I was with the crouching stance? 😅

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie 7 місяців тому

      The jumping is always a little tough on skates as it’s a matter of loading your legs and jumping off a flat foot and remembering to lift your toes. It’s a very unnatural position to jump from as, as you rightly say, you usually jump from your toes / ball of your foot. Watch those toe stops, don’t left them touch if you’re jumping rolling forwards. 💥 🤕

      @@Skatie That plus smaller harder wheels. Couldn't do many things with the stock wheels without falling. Switched them out and replaced them with Radar Crush wheels, instantly unlocked 10 different skills.

    hi! I was wondering which skates you recommend if I want to practice tricks but still go fast. I have flat skates right now, and I love the speed but I'm wondering if heeled skates would be better for tricks, spins and jumps? love ur videos :)

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie 7 місяців тому

      The heeled boot will
      Be more angle for spins, tricks etc a lot of it comes down to preference. If you’re happy in a flat it will work too

    Do you have any recommendations on where to buy wheel in europe? I saw your site only had them for the usa. I am looking for babypink wheels without any flashes or blinks and it seems impossible!

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie 7 місяців тому

      Have you thought about picking up a light pair or white and dying them? Rit dye works well on wheels but only use a little they have a tendency to go too deep in colour very quickly.

    I have been working on shoot the duck...(still) lol....do you think it is easier getting into the squat and balance with a heel rather than more flat skate?

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie 7 місяців тому +1

      💯 easier in the heel as it shifts the weight forward, the squat position takes all the weight back so any help getting the weight forward again is greatly appreciated! 😂 Try and reach for your foot to counter balance.

    I'm a good crossover skater, but I am struggling with the "quick win" version. With 8 wheels on the ground I just cannot get crossed up- my thighs run into each other! What am I missing?

      You may need to be lower in the knee, that should give you more space. Think of starting in the staggered stance, nice and low.

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie 7 місяців тому +5

      I think I mention it somewhere in one of the videos! 😂 . I’ve always have trouble getting long enough laces so for years I’ve tied two 120cm laces together and at some point I had the epiphany to tie two different colours together! Ta-da! 😂

    I have heeled skates but I really want to start going to the skatepark, do you think it will be too hard to start with heeled skates?

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie 3 місяці тому

      I actually started at the skate park in heeled skates as that’s what I’m used to. I do however, find the flat skates better for the park. But that could also be partly because they have grind blocks now.

    Hey skatie! Can I ask how you like those Chaya park skates? I’m trying to decide between those & a pair of Moxi panther/jungle. I currently use a pair of Chaya lifestyle as my everyday skate but have started experimenting with ramps so need something more suitable. If anyone here has any experience with either of these models I’d be grateful for your advice x

    While the majority of this one is irrelevant to me, seeing as having a Y-chromosome made the decision for me, you've given me a target to hit - that jump at 3:13. One day I'm going to *double* that amount of clearance off the ground, and you can call me Susan if it isn't so. And despite the warnings about falling over backwards (which I'm well aware of), I will crack heel-heel manuals soon-ish, even on my converted ice hockey skates.
    Those are the best thing I bought this year, followed closely by the two extra sets of wheels and bearings.

    • @Skatie

      @@Skatie Aha! Way ahead of you on that one. That's exactly what I tried to do on my very first attempt at a jump while on that ice skating crash course in 2012. It didn't end well. Only afterwards, while attending to my heavily bleeding elbow, did I find out I only had to jump by about an inch.
      Time to bolt a ruler to the wall, I think...
