- I traveled to Kagoshima in Kyushu, southwestern Japan. This is where you will find a delicious Tonkatsu and a great view of Sakurajima. It's absolutely a beautiful place to visit in Japan.
I took an overnight ferry from Osaka to Kagoshima.

I am always surprised that so many Japanese people panic when it starts to rain and cancel their plans. It must be a cultural thing. I am happy that you got to see the foot onsen before.
I was wondering that too! I used to live in a place that umbrellas were useless because of the wind, so I was used to just walking everywhere in the rain. It's not so bad if you have a waterproof bag.
It's because rainfall in Japan is unpredictable. Especially near the sea. Japan is prone to tsunami.
I think a main reason is that it's not that difficult for them to go again next time.
The weather is the first thing they check in the morning before they start the day. I believe they have one of the most accurate weather forecast system in the world. They'll have umbrella with them ready long before the rain comes.
Maybe our man here didn't check the weather forecast for the day ;D
@@Indrakusuma_a Won't surprise me if they do, it's Japan after all. The most accurate weather forcast system I've ever used was the one in Switzerland, which predicts rainfall time to an accuracy of 10 minutes about 8 hours ahead. Very useful indeed.
I really like this format. It really helps give us an idea of a completely planned trip as well as recommendations for our future travels.
If I may, I can personally recommend renting a (small) car on Sakurajima if you want to get to the buried shrine. Cycling there is possible, but it's farther than it seems.
This was nice, it's your first video introducing a place and not just travelling right? Loved it! Very sad indeed to see shops closed.
@I dont care most probably yea because there's no overseas tourists
@I dont care yea i hope so, im looking forward to travel to japan again
The best part is.. the person doesn't speaks! And no music too.. just natural sounds with English subtitles. Also the video length is always short.. unlike other channels which post 1 hour long videos. Love this channel!
Thank you very much for posting this video. I really love the format, and the slight change in subject. I appreciated too that you gave us the name of the hotel and the restaurant, so we can find them ourselves. The walking times are great too! Inspiring stuff for future plans, and you're really helping us get through this current crisis by showing off your wonderful country.
great video! i enjoyed it a lot just like your others
Probably the most realistic travel vlog I've watched
I went to Kagoshima a couple of years ago. It's gorgeous. The observatory sits at the top of a HUGE park/forest. I'd 100% recommend walking your way up through it rather than taking the bus it's so beautiful with lots of little hidden monuments. Also it's from Kagoshima that you can take the ferry to Yakushima Island which was my all time favorite place in Japan. If any of you are familiar with the movie Princess Mononoke, the gorgeous moss forest in the movie was inspired by the forest in Yakushima. If you are into hiking and nature that is a must :)
That sounds awesome!
Thankyou for your recommendation. Japan is teeming with hidden treasures, I love it!
Added to my list. 😊
I have only been to Tokyo and Sapporo and a few small towns in Hokkaido. I do believe Kagoshima and Kyushu in general is where I want to go next!
Thank you for showcasing my family’s beautiful hometown in this video!! Kagoshima is one of my favorite places in the world.
Something I learned from visiting my family is that when the volcano erupts, you have to bring all your laundry inside so it doesn’t get volcanic ash on it. If I lived there, I would probably forget and end up with ashy clothing all year round! 😂
I really like this kind of tour, it's relaxing and interesting to see!
This is a great video.
You show terrific places to go in and around Kagoshima.
The dinner looks delicious and you explained it well.
When I can return to Japan I would like to cycle around Kyushu.
I have already cycled around Shikoku in April and May of 2018 visiting the 88 Temples of the Kobodaishi.
But I’m now 66 and thinking that I may not physically be able to do that. I live in Australia.
Your video has inspired me. Thank you. I’ll try to stay healthy and enjoy Kyushu when air travel is possible.
Keep up your great videos. I’ve ridden the ferry from Tokyo to Tokushima and love Japanese ferry rides as well.
Cheers!
My brain tried to read your comment like a poem verse.
Nice to see a comment from a fellow “older person” on a travel channel. I’m planning a trip to Japan...have been for a few years...so I watch a lot of the UA-cam videos of travel vlogs. Unfortunately they are all made by younger folks who don’t have any physical limitations. So, I’ve been trying to plan for my own needs and it’s difficult if I don’t know what to expect ahead of time. For instance, I can’t go up stairs that have a high rise between them and I’ve noticed Japan doesn’t seem to be very accessible to the “handicapped” & disabled. I also can’t sit on the ground....because I wouldn’t be able to get back up. That alone has caused me to cancel quite a few plans. 😔 I’m actually thinking of posting some videos once I return home that are geared toward the mature travelers...so others know the things that I will have to find out on my own. Such as the location of public restrooms, which restaurants offer seating in chairs as well as sitting on the ground, handicapped accessible hotels, eateries, parks, ferries, onsen, etc... I do think that others would appreciate the information....I know I would!! So, yeah...thanks for your comment. I appreciate that you explained that the hike may be a bit much for someone like me. I can ride a bike though! I assume I’ll be using them quite a bit while visiting Japan...as I can’t comfortably walk for too long or far. ✌🏻🥰😊
Very enjoyable
Pls pls make more of this!!! I love that it is so calm and yet we felt your panic when it started to rain haha. I love your vids! Keep up the great work :)
Yup kagoshima is nice. Every city in Japan has its own thing
Spent a month here a few years ago and you can get the bigger city conveniences but with a more local vibe. It's definitely a foodie location including pork, seafood, ramen, shochu! Definitely try the raw chicken. I loved it at first bite. 🥰
Yes please, more of this! It's the perfect opportunity to show us places we foreigners would love to visit, since they're less crowded than usual, and you can record comfortably. Your videos are the perfect guide with tons of details, so easy to follow, they will be useful once I have the opportunity to get there one day in the future.
And of course, please stay safe.
Thanks for this. I lived in Kagoshima City for more than 2 years when I went to graduate school in Kagoshima University. Watching this, all the memories come flooding back, the sights of Skaurajima, the sounds of the cicadas, the ferry and the waves, and the smells of sara udon, yakiniku, hot onsen, and the sea.
Upload more of this kind of video! It gives us a chance to virtually travel there during this pandemic time 😊
I love Kagoshima, It's such a beautiful, chill city. Especially the foot baths on Sakurajima that you can just sit in and look at the city.
I'd been wondering what you were doing between the traveling! This looks like a lovely little city. I'd love to go on that ferris wheel. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
i am from Canada and would love to visit Japan one day. never been to your country. it looks so beautiful! after watching some of your videos, you have a new subscriber! i like what you do with them. nice, calm, almost peaceful watching them. thank you so much!
for me, a german, it's so magical to just see normal everyday japan! I love that you use just the subtitels and leave the ambient sounds it makes it feel a lot more as if one is actually there^^
If you want to make more videos like this, in which you just explore, I'll watch them all! I really like these
As much as I love the dedicated ferry videos, it is good to see more of Japan on foot.
This video was very good, I enjoyed it a lot :)
I think because I'm from the desert but i love doing everything in the rain. If it begins to rain it's a good sign. If you want up and it's cloudy it means it's going to be a great day. I love the rain
Great video. Kagoshima has been on my list for a while. I’m also a solo traveler so looking forward to visiting Japan.
Kyushu is my favourite part of Japan. I used to visit Kyushu two times a year but we drove by ourselves. Thanks for posting these videos. I will definitely go to Kyushu again when the pandemic is over.
I loved this video! I really want to go to Kagoshima now. Well I really want to go to Japan now. Other than it's beautiful the food looks amazing. I want to go to an onsen, fish in the mountains, explore, of course try all the different foods. :)
I love how you document what you are eating! I have a personal rule when I travel: never eat anywhere I can eat at home. It's been a really fun way to discovery new places. Thanks for the videos. Japan is definitely on my list of future travels.
Thank you for showing us around. I can’t wait to go back to Japan when the world opens back up again 🇯🇵 💛
YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!
I’ve been planning my visit to Japan for a long time. It got derailed due to Covid and I think that’s caused even more problems, because now I watch your videos and want to add so many more places to visit. I’ve already added another week to my trip and that’s still not going to be near enough time to see and experience everything that I want to. I’m older so it’s going to be a laid back trip...with a slower pace than most. I’m thinking of uploading some videos once I return home to the US, so other older ppl with physical obstacles can see that travel is an option if you just plan for your own specific needs. Since most of the travel channels are ppl without health issues, disabilities and typically are younger, I think it would be nice to see that traveling isn’t limited by those specific things. And...I have you to thank! Now I just have to see how I can fit so much into two weeks. I have a feeling that I’ll have to plan a second trip so I can also experience the Onsens, ferries and areas outside of Tokyo.
Anyway, thank you for all you do and for sharing your adventures with us. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of the foods you eat, but it’s not a criticism.... I just enjoy that type of content. 😂 Love your videos & love that we’re lucky enough to have you share them with us. ✌🏻🥰😊
A-S-O So much volcano! I know this isn't Aso but watching this Kagoshima travel vlog brings me back to Journey Across Japan!
Same!
What is Journey Across Japan? Pardon my ignorance. These videos are so enjoyable, so well done. I will never get the chance to travel to Japan, these videos are so full of details of different areas of the country. I was surprised by the number of lakes. Must look for historical fiction books and memoirs.
I have it on my iPod - cuz who DOESN’T a little Natsuki on their iPod?!?
@@jdd8826 It's a UA-cam series by
Abroad in Japan (Chris Broad). Too Much Volcano is a song they made in one of the recent episodes where they travelled to the Mount Aso, also in the Kyushu area.
Haha same time! Too much Volcano! 🤪
I really enjoy these "silent" travel videos. And I love when you show the countryside or a destination. Makes me love Japan even more.
Thanks for sharing! Keep the videos coming, please. (I personally find it interesting when you share more technical info like the ferries size / speed etc too). Have to admit I smiled, someone gets so excited about food 😁
Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and share your travels. Been to Japan twice, and love picking up bits, sights and sounds that take me back (like vending machines on almost every street corner, and extremely neatly parked trucks and well-kept gardens).
Safe travels!!
"Actually they have more dishes, but I can't eat much this morning"
Ha ha ha
What an amazing breakfast selection.
Good video, thank you.
I LOVED our experiences today! I didn't want our trip to end. 😊
I think it’s your lovely sense of humor that makes your videos shine.
Another Solo Travel Japan video means the world is good
Your videos are such 'NO nonsense' videos. We experience Japan through your eyes and no unwanted stuff.
I just discovered your videos a week or so ago. I really enjoy them!!! This one was great -- you showed more of the place you went to. I love how you just show things and then just type out what it is and how you feel. Boy, can you eat!!! Love to see all the different foods. Would love to travel more, but at least I can see where you go and it is really awesome!!!! Thank you for all your hard work on these videos.
Please make more videos like these, it nice to see lesser known/less traveled places being covered. I love it!
This was so nice! And that tonkatsu looked divine! Please do post more content like this it was wonderful!
I just found your channel and subscribed immediately! It made me feel like I was back again. I was supposed to be coming back in September but don't see that happening. Your videos make me happy but sad at the same time. Thank you so much for taking us along on your travels.
Thank you for sharing. :)
Felt like I was there - very enjoyable!
I enjoy this version as much as your regular videos!
Honestly, I can't wait to see what it's like in Japan since Olympic is almost starting!
Wish you always stay healthy so you could share your beautiful vlog as long as you want ☺️
I love your traveling video. I just took a licence as a tour guide who guides foreign tourists around Japan in English. So your subtitles in English are absolutely what I want to learn. I keep watching and looking forward to your videos! Thanks a lot for filming this type of videos!
I finished watching every single one of your videos and I enjoyed it so much. I watched atleast one of them every day when I woke up and it was very relaxing, thank you so much for making me feel like I'm traveling in Japan myself. Honestly, thank you for making these! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your content, keep up the good work :)
Oh, please continue to make more videos like this. I feel like I’ve just taken a mini vacation. Also, I would happily travel there just for that tonkatsu!
Very calming to watch!
I had visited Kyushu almost 10 times but usually stayed within the area if North Kyushu pass. I'd like to visit Kagoshima and take Tamatebako train and onsen, and visit Yamazaki too. Thank you so much for showing all these places in your videos!
Whenever I can't sleep or just want to watch something relaxing, I watch your videos.
This video is also nice! It's not the usual transportation tour but it's nice to actually see the spots you're visiting (not just where you sleep).
It's really inspiring to see developmentally-disabled people travel and film alone! Your videos are inspiring and really make me want to travel! Best ferry videos and reviews!
Ah... This video was super calming. Thank you for showing us around Kagoshima!
Wonderful fun to be able to follow along on your trip, and the shops being closed and the rain are wonderful too because it makes it more real to watch. I can never go to Japan but following along on your trips through youtube is really fun and heaartwarming. Thank you for posting them!
Brilliant! I would like to see more videos like this, especially with food :)
I really liked this. I love your travel videos going on the ferry, train and bus, but it's fun to see more of the destination, especially the hotel and food. I hope you do more like this.
Thank you for allowing us to come along on your travels. As someone who would love to holiday in Japan again one day when pandemic restrictions ease, this is one of the few ways to escape and take a virtual holiday. Thank you for being so informative with all your videos - showing us costs, accommodation standards and what to expect when tourists come again. Doumo arigato!
@solotraveljapan! You should be my tour guide when I get to Tokyo 😍😍! Your videos are so amazing ! X
And with me! He’s mine first! Haha ❤️🇨🇦🤓
@@chrisrandall2710 sharing is caring 😂😂 x
Just like your travel videos! Very nice. No annoying music and no distracting voice overs. I feel like I am the one traveling.
Thank you so much for your amazing tour videos. I've been wanting to visit Japan for many years now, and just when I had everything ready, the pandemic struck. So I'm watching your videos to be ready for when borders open up once again. Please keep making awesome videos!
I love your channel so much! The most peaceful travel videos ever! Thank you so much for making these
I love your videos! It feels like I’m traveling around the city too. I think it’s because of the way you film your vlog is simply close to how we film our trips - unlike other well edited vlogs out there. ありがとうございます✨
Really love this video! Very relaxing and it's nice to see the different places you get food at and all the scenery!
I enjoy watching your videos, they are both informative and engaging- and you have a great sense of humour too. You do the travelogue scenario well, just as your ferry travels are always interesting. I’ve only visited Japan a few times (Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto), mainly on business, partly for pleasure, but your videos certainly encourage me to have a return visit on my “bucket list’ 👍😎.
I loved the new format of the video!! The food looks so good
This is just like sightseeing. I enjoyed it very much.
Watching this, it feels unreal to me that I have been to Kagoshima, been on a ferry to Sakurajima and did a guided day tour of the island volcano. While we were there, there was a "mini" eruption as the tour guide have said but we didn't really noticed it😅
I can't decide which was prettier- the shot overlooking the city, water and volcano; or the super crispy tonkatsu. :)
The tonkatsu… DEFINITELY the tonkatsu….
Really like this kind of travel vlog. Feels like ‘I no ga shira-gorou’, travels alone and find delicious foods and enjoy it.
You should do more city tours. Love it when you take your time with the camera to pan different sceneries. Great job!!
Watching your videos feels like travelling with a friend! I like the travel-format videos, but this one gave such a nice in-depth exploration of one city/region
Thank you for your great video! I visited Kagoshima and Miyazaki in 2019 and I like 黑かつ亭 so much as the pork cutlet is so tender and juicy! The natural scenery in Kyushu are purely amazing and the feeling is different from big cities like Osaka and Tokyo
I love your videos! This one reminded me of when I was in Kagoshima last year. I ate at the same tonkatsu restaurant! It was amazing! 🤤
I love this style! I've been to Japan once and have been thinking about my next trip. These are awesome to watch because I can really zone out and pretend I'm back! Super helpful when it comes to planning another trip, thanks dude!
The salt made me smile.
Great clips and good quality. Having the sounds of the city adds to the overall experience.
If there's one thing I really miss about Japan, it's the food. Thank you for sharing your videos. :)
Thank you for making videos like this! I missed coming to Japan and seeing your videos help me experience Japan from my home.
Another great video! I was so happy to see that you posted a new one! Hope there will be more soon. Your videos are like little mini virtual vacations. I truly enjoy and appreciate them.
I like the travel videos but I also love this style of video where you show us some tourist sites and fun things to do in different towns. More videos like this please!
I loved this video. I've always wanted to travel here, so it felt like I was there. I'd love to see more city tour travel videos like this. Can't wait for Miyazaki!
I really enjoyed this video! I love your other travel videos as well, and how they're focused on the trip and method of transport themselves (and I appreciate how you include things like time of travel, prices of tickets/food/etc. and dimensions of seats/rooms/etc.). I was wondering what kind of things you do when you get to your destination! I would love to see a mix of your transportation videos and what to do at your destination. I especially like how you've done it here, where there's videos of the train/ferry trip, videos of specific accommodations (capsule hotels, etc.), and this video of sightseeing. Your channel is my favourite travel channel. Thank you for sharing with us!
I just found your channel recently and I'm loving all the videos. I really enjoy the travelling by train or ferry videos, and this kind of city "review" is also wonderful. I look forward to more videos around Japan!
My wife, who’s from Japan…and I really enjoyed your video and subscribed to your channel. We liked your comments at the bottom and feel they give the video a personal touch.
I watched most of your videos.
Transportation in Japan, including the ferry, the sleeper train, and the bus, is seemingly affordable. Japan is such a beautiful country and I've been there only once. Would love to return with my family 👪🏿 ❤
Let's pray for the COVID-19 and Delta variant to end SOON 🙏🏽
thank you for bringing us along with you. i enjoyed it alot.
Appreciate your videos so much! I did not know I was interested in visiting Japan until I watched these. The food looks amazing! Love the ferry trips and would love to see this volcano park. Thank you so much!! Super appreciate you taking the time to describe each food item.
Been there in 2019, love this city. Hopefully can go there again with family..
That tonkatsu made my mouth water haha I'd love to try that, it looked so good!
Nice video, as always! Thank you for sharing some of your favorite places with us.
I like how you incorporate the activities you do around the places you end up at!
Totally love your videos, including this one! Makes me feel like I'm the one travelling on it. The whole video is very soothing. Keep up the good work and continue on in Miyazaki! :)
If I have missed anything during the lockdown it's definitely travelling and watching your videos just make me happy. The video was awesome. Safe travelling :)👍🏽
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. You have become one of my favorite travel youtubers and this new format is just as amaxing as your other vids!
Just discovered your site. I was born and raised in the US. First visited Japan in 2010 and have visited four times since. Kagoshima is both my parents home town they grew up in. By the way I am 74 now and wish to see Japan again soon after this unfortunate time in our lives has passed.
I thought it was a good video! I liked that you showed us the different places to see and do at your destination! Thank you so much 😊 for taking the time and bringing us along with you. Safe travels can’t wait to see the next video.
This is probably the most beautiful video I've seen on your channel so far. Thanks so much for sharing and making me smile.
Love your videos. They are interesting and relaxing. Makes me wish I could travel! Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Love the city tour, walking tour, attractions tour, hotel, train and bus tours, and food tour all in one. Lets us really feel like we were there. Make more videos please, I’ve binge watched almost all already!
Great video. Love seeing Japan and the food thru your travels.
I like this format! It's a good mix of food, sights and transport.
👍🏼 Time passes quickly, watching your videos! Very nice! 😎✌🏼
Very nice to see you walking around the city and seeing what you eat as well!
