It's actually really nice that he asked about the phone first.
Claire Eliza right? That's something my sister would have done. She knows I'm waterproof but phones are not lol
+
It's so if Hank drowned John could have his phone
+
Like a shooter down a shoot-thing! (I'm a novelist). HAD ME ROLLING.
Andrew Sugrue *chute
+
best john green quote is between "you don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world but you do have a say in who is gonna hurt you" or" like a shooter down a shoot thing"
I'd go with the latter...
+Andrew Sugrue i'd go with the "ladder.." (chutes and ladders? like a shooter down a chute-thing? 😂 sorry..)
Marian Moss That was possibly the worst or best comment i've ever read
jordan goldbloom hahahahaha
@@absurdantiquity5240 Was that other person origimally replyin to you? Or a gone comment? If you, love the name change :3
"Do you have your phone in your pocket?" "No..." *pushes into the pool*
a.k.a. the story of every big brother ever
Nice of him to ask, though.
Yeah, my friends aren't always that nice hahaha... Or they'll ask to see your phone so someone else can push you XD
+
i knew he was going to do that as soon as he asked... i guess that's just my big sister instincts kicking in. still hilarious though!
if you are standing by a pool and someone asks you if you have your phone in your pocket ALWAYS SAY YES
Unless they absolutely hate you in which case they will just push you in the pool in order to soak you and to ruin your phone in the process.

It's been 5 years, we're all adults here. Just tell us the gODDAMN JoKE

I REALLY want to know what that joke was, even 6 years later. Like, put it behind an age wall on hankschannel or something
turdl38 I have a feeling it might be a family-specific thing they can't reveal and that's why they still haven't told us??
turdl38 7 years later now tellll
lets start a campaign. replace who the eff is hank with what the eff was the joke
John's reaction to Hank on the slide... that was perfect hahaha.
John is such a kind soul asking if his phone was in his pocket, if it was my sister I would have just pushed her in.
hahahaha same
I don't know how Hank didn't see that coming.
So true... :)
As a younger brother myself, I'm not sure I should find that as funny as I do. But I can't help it.
He was in front of the pool
He's too nice
After all these years, I still really want to know what the joke was.
me too!
Me three
I love how you asked if he had his phone in his pocket!!
consideration and love for the phone hahaha
I love that John & Hank always suprise us. They don't tell us they'll be together, they just ARE in a video one day. It's lovely. Them together is heavenly.
When asked if you have a phone or other electronic device in your pocket near water, always say yes
Okay the "shooter down a shoot thing" and the subtitle 'im a novelist' made me laugh for 15 mins...
WHAT WAS THE JOKE. YOU. CANT. DO. THIS. TO. US.
If I ever meet either of them Im gonna ask.
+Eleanor Taylor I suggest you ask Hank. John doesnt look like he remembers it...
Yeah, I'm back and I want to know the joke, guys.
"like a shooter down a shoot thing" got a thousand times better with the "I'm a novelist" right there xDDDDD
"Some Infinites are greater than other infinites."
"I fell in love the same way you fall asleep: slowly, then all at once."
"Like a shooter down a shoot thing."
All of these quotes, written by the same author.
So many years later and I still want to know the joke

The only non douchey way to push someone into a pool
I love reunion videos. Hearing these guys laugh out loud is so amazing.
This is by far my favorite vlogbrothers video. I don't even know how many times I've seen this hahahaha
John: Uh, do you have your phone in your pocket?
Hank: Um, no. Why?
John: *shoves in pool*
John: WIN!!
That do you have your phone in your pocket was really a win win
Irveen Joy Ramirez that was his glasses that hank was holding
My curiosity has been piqued. I MUST KNOW THE JOKE!
"Like a shooter down a shoot thing"- I'm a novelist-
HOLY SHIT
I thought they were the same person for about three years.
That's ok. I couldn't tell them apart myself for a few solid months.
Here I am 4 years later and I still wanna know the joke.
Dammit John I want to know the joke!
Happy 61st birthday Hank and Johns dad! Thanks for creating these two awesome people
"WIN!"
-John Green
When Hank was standing close to the pool like that, I could just see it coming. I was just like,"Hank, step away from the pool." And then john asked if he had his phone, and I knew I was right, that hank was going to fall or get shoved into the pool. It's funnier that John pushed him into the pool. Lol.
I love these two especially when they are together
I love seeing Hank and John together. They're the epitome of what siblings should be. They makes each laugh, push each other into pools, have things they're not allowed to tell other people, and are good friends. It makes me wish I could have that kind of relationship with my sister.
This is the first time I've actually seen the Green bros. together, talking face-to-face! It's wonderful! And happy 60th to your Dad!
One of my favorite vlogbrother videos.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - each of you is awesome in his own right, but together you are amazing. You just shine when you are together. I lost my brother to cancer a year and a half ago: thanks for reminding me what a joy a brother can be. Oh lord, I've gone all sniffly now (in a good way).
"I just shot down that like a..."
"Like a shooter down a shoot thing!" *I'm a novelist*
When I'm not feeling too good, I come watch Henry videos because they just make me so happy:)
So we can't hear the joke that gave John Broken rib hiccups but it's okay for Hank to make a blog about Dr. Manhattan's privates. Yeah that makes sense.
Their brotherhood/relationship is awesome.
"im a novelist." 0:43 AND A BLOODY GOOD ONE AT THAT JOHN
That was the best ending ever. lol
One of my favorite VB videos, everything in here is Winkitty!
The fact that they offered the great wide internet facebook friendship is a real sign of a different time. If only we could go back there.
Rewatching random vlogbrothers videos because I need something to keep me out of despair as I watch the incoming news of the earthquakes and tsunamis in the Pacific currently going on...this is exactly the sort of thing I need right now. Thank you, John and Hank, for always being awesome.
After john pushes hank imagine you just hear hank shout shit and see him pull his phone out of the water
KalypzosMuse he didn't pull out anything you just have to use your imagination
+Molly Hooper
That's why he's a father now.
OMG TELL THE JOKEE!!
This is the best video of John and Hank together besides the last set they did. So good.
a joy of never watching the full catalog of videos in order is that i still stumble on a few i've not yet seen. excellent.
I'm a novelist
I died
Great entrance Hank and loved the ending!!!
Hank looked like he was a kid when he went down the slide.
John totally got you there, Hank. You guys are awesome. I miss this kind of content.
The year is 2020 and we still hear tales of that joke being so funny that it could make the most serious person in the world laugh himself to death and we have no clue whatsoever to what the joke is... These are dark times.
This is the first video in which I have seen you two together.
There are others. (:
Alec Risser The first video of them together I watched is the one where I discovered John was the writer of "The Fault in Our Stars"... until then he had always been Hank's (that I knew through Crash Course Chemistry) brother, that also works for Crash Course.

This is one of my favorite vlogbrother videos. They are so cute together. As brothers. I mean.
That's cute. Nothing like brotherly affection and constant one-upage to make a day bright.
You're relationship is great :) hahahahahahaha "I'm a novelist."
The ending was the best... It was really nice of you to ask if he had his phone though!
It's been three and a half years and I still wanna know what that joke was.
aw, this makes me so happy. these brothers love each other. so much more charismatic when they're together.
That is so polite you asked him that before pushing him in. You're a great brother.
Need. To. Know. The. Joke!
Tell us the joke, Hank. Come on. Tell us the joke.
Dude, I'm really sorry about your loss. Stay strong, and DFTBA.
The absolute cutest thing in the world is how you two act like brothers. I mean, my friend's Dad and Uncle /hate/ each other.
This is in the top 3.
want to know the joke...sooo bad.
Thank you Jay. Watching these two makes me remember the good times and how awesome *he* was, and that helps to keep me strong. And friendly support from friends I have yet to meet, like you, is a great help too.
These guys are really cool people. They make having fun look so effortless.
Gracious, Henry is a gorgeous baby.
TELL US
vlogbrother videos make me feel better. I have been feeling really down lately, and watching these videos makes me laugh and feel better
Does anyone else love the fact that John was considerate enough to ASK if Hank had his phone in his pocket before planking him? Cause I do :)
PLEASE TELL US THE JOKE. PLEASE.
You just shot down that slide like Henry shot down the Yeti's, ahem, well, maybe that's not appropriate.
I LOVED that you made sure he didn't have his phone on him. Brotherly love :)
Sometimes I wish I had a sibling.
Times like right now.
This is so ridiculously heartwarming to watch.
I NEED TO KNOW THE JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!
Like a shooter down a shoot thing. And this man makes hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in a year, writing books?
This is probably one of my favorite vlogbrother videos.
There should be a "This Cute Child" playlist because Henry is adorable!
it's ten years now! the current audience can handle the joke ;)
At least John is polite enough to ask before dunking his baba brother.
Can I just say, thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Green, for producing such amazing sons.
my dad was 53 when I was born (so 69 by the time I turned 16) occasionally people thought he was my granddad and would make comments and think it odd - but my dad was also much wiser and patient than a lot of the young dads - plus since he retired at 65 he was always around, which was awesome. I wouldn't have traded my dad for the world - don't listen to silly people who don't understand. It isn't the age of your parents that matter - it is HOW they parent and love you that matters.
"im a novelist"
That was so funny, I want to push someone into a pool now
"Like a shooter down a shoot-thing." And this is why John Green is my favorite author.
i love that john asked if hank had his phone... he's such a nice older brother
very funny TELL US THE JOKE I AM A GIANT SQUID OF ANGER
what if the joke was that there was no joke. o_0
That's a deep thought right there.
I may just have to sit in the corner now.
Loads of people have already said this but I'm 17 and my dad is 60 however my sisters are only a few years younger than Hank and John. Also I wish my brother was that considerate
8 years and we're still waiting to hear the joke.
Carry books = weightlifting. I call whatever one gains from that sort of exercise "nerd strength" (I have it in droves. Thank you, heavy AP books).
I really don't understand how people could dislike this video...
This is what I watch when I am having a bad day. I could watch John pushing Hank into the pool forever.
I don't know why is youtube showing be all those old vlogbrothers videos but they are very sweet.
Happy birthday for yesterday, John! :)
