My first plane many years ago was an AXN floater(superb 1st plane), crashed and glued so many times but still flies today. Next up was a bixler, then came the teksumo(that was a whole new learning curve). First flight controlled plane was my Bixler 3 with a 3d printed fpv pod to replace the canopy. I now fly inav in a ZOHD Dart XL extreme. I did have a mini talon for a while but didn't get on with it so passed it on. The best thing to happen in the hobby since I started is Elrs, bloody love it. I also now have a collection of fpv cars and 3 d printed fpv boats. All the best.
Excellent timing with this video! I started building my first fixed wing FPV a couple days ago. I went with a heewing t1 ranger . Trying to get a SpeedyBee wing mini fc and a 03 air unit installed in it now but it’s a little tighter than I expected haha I also picked up the ZOHD Dart xl to get together next. I maybe should have done that one first because it has to much more room but I assume the ranger being smaller would be easier for my first ever flight. I do fly fpv quads and have flown planes & wings on the sim so hopefully I don’t destroy it on the maiden 😂
Andrew, thanks for making this! I really like all of the twin-motor offerings like the ZOHD Altus, AtomRC Swordfish, and the HeeWing T1/T2. I'll probably go for a PNF version of one of those in the near future. My first FPV plane was an 1800mm SonicModell Skyhunter, and I wouldn't recommend it as a newcomer. It's kit-only, the tail section is very fragile, it's a massive plane that hogs space in the house, the elevator/horizontal stabilizer is thin and susceptible to warping, and the fuselage is very difficult to wire for electronics once the two halves are glued together. It flies well and can carry large batteries, but the aforementioned issues make it unsuitable for new FPV pilots.
I have the t1 rager upgraded to vtol, can buy or print the upgrades painless360 dose a good video build on youtube. I imagine the creator dose as well with is why I probably have his videos come up. I'd do the t2 if I had to do it over larger easier to fly has more room for flight boards larger battery.
I’ll chime in as I’m going through my very first inav build experience now , I fly fine but wanted a go , used my 2400 ranger big yes but was sitting around doing nothing , Had great success so far (thanks to Andrew’s channel , I’d say the biggest hurdle is all the jargon and really understanding it all , silly stuff like where is “uart 1” tbh I’d of never known had Andrew not showed me 😂, But my advice to anyone Plan your build , However how much time you’ve allocated to it , double it ! Check everything, then check everything again, then make a coffee ☕️ and. Check it all again 😂 And of course enjoy the build , I did 😊
Thanks so so much for making this, that zohd altus looks amazing , i know you said not to dive in but, im that guy who dives in 😅😅😂 Thanks again, my local hobby shop does alot of zohd kits, so ill be looking straight after this message, thankyou, im sure your videoes on set up will be watched again and again, i love the twin motor setup Much love #RCADDICT
If your in the US valuehobby has skysurfer x8 for 50 bucks. Personally really like the penguin cheap and flys well plus easy to launch. Spend 10 hours in the sim flying los you won't regret it LOS is just adds another level to the hobby
I used a Sonicmodell AR Mini as my 1st fpv experience.Bounced very well many times!Got the hang of it tho...its still around as my analogue fpv wing. Youre dead right about its bigger brother the AR Pro..nightmare to launch due to the a.u.w.I had to upgrade to the Sunnysky V3 motor to get it to launch reliably.
Ive just looked and ive kinda fell in love with the zohd altus, i love the twin motor and the kit pnp comes in at £129, can you recomend a good 4s lipo/lion as i they recomend the zohd batteries only, thankyou
For what it’s worth I use these two batteries, STRIX Power Stix 4S 6400mAh Li-ion pack and the AuLine 4S 4000mAh Li-ion pack (45A version). I’ve gotten 30 minutes out of the 4000 in some high winds and flying too fast and with the 6400 I got tired of being in the air after 47 minutes.
Thank you so much for another great video. I now see that the planes I had intended to start with fpv again have very little space for the equipment I had intended. (such as Gopro, or an Insta360 camera) (the video itself is what I'm passionate about) I'm more unsure should I choose Dji goggles with dji unit o3 or should I go for Walksnail. Has a skywalker plane with a 192 cm wingspan. Thanks again for your great videos. Best Regards Geir Norway
@@ab7rsThe plane I'm going to use is a plane called Skywalker. 192cm wingspan. I fly it on a 6000mah 4 cell battery. so 200 grams more means nothing. 👍👍🤩🤩
I don't have Inav. So can't really add much, I do however have the atomRc Swordfish, with FPV camera, it's a great flier. Stable, and floats well. Easy to hand launch. That would be my recommendation
I didn't mean to ignore the advice most of us newbies think the flight board will give us an upper hand. I did the t1 ranger then did the vtol upgrade. Cheap fpv just to have something. I'm using a plane sim to get line of sight down. Flown quads just never planes figured I could switch to qloiter or shtf switch.
I was surprised not to find Atom RC seal. Is it discontinued? Also what do you mean by flight controller, is the setup of these fpv gliders similar to drones! I was just going to install a long range dual band FRsky 900/2.4 receiver + dji cam + dji air unit, why is a flight controller required! Thanks for your reply.
The Seal would be excellent, but I gave mine away. Flight controller is not necessary for planes, but some DJI setups (O3) may require one to get out of standby mode. For long range a flight control board and GPS is for safety. If you lose video then the plane can fly home by itself.
At this momment I only fly FPV drones but I want to try a plane. Do you recommend starting to fly one plane or a simulator is helpfull? Which one do you recommend? Thanks!
Just go straight to FPV planes. You'll be fine, especially since you already fly FPV drones. For example: The only reason I ever wanted to fly RC planes was because I could do it from a first person perspective, it's like I am in there, flying through the clouds. I have absolutely no interest in the class line of sight RC hobby, it is completely boring and uninteresting to me. The whole community felt like an old boys club and full of gatekeeping. I never flew planes until FPV became a thing, as that's what interests me. It's 2024, you can jump straight into FPV planes if that's your interest lies, and you can ignore the old ways. Things change, technology evolves, people move on. ;)
Hi Andrew, i have the T1400 but i find probem due to difficult to balance the CG with my battery (A tattu 3S 2300 mAh). The nose is always heavy, bu the bigger battery suggested into the manual is a 2600 mAh. So did you have my same problem?
Very good video, lot of very sound advice, i know a person that never learnt LOS went right in with inav and fpv, if he loses video he is F***ked and crashes, i learnt LOS and just mainly stayed with it never got on with FPV my AR pro has inav but i just fly it LOS, or should say used to as i have given up flying now
Flite test foam board kits are great first wings because you learn how to build and repair them and they are very easy to fly. I'd go for their version of the bixler or goblin
Hi Andrew I follow you every new test. It's very interesting bat I have one question. I like your video, what you use whit camera on board? Example, in right aleron or in back side (Rudder) is the same camera? Can you give me the name of this camera? Many thank's my friend. Best Regard from Italy and long life.
Thanks Domenico. I started with Mobius camera, then Runcam 2 4k, and now I use Runcam Thumb Pro. I balance with equal weight on the other wing or shift the battery for CG if necessary.
Nice helpful video. But I think the most people have problem to diy a fpv system with all the items that needed. So i don't foung a helpful tutorial for new people to get in this hobby.

Considering you off-loaded most of your planes before the move, you've got a room full again. Funny how they multiply isn't it. 😁😁
They just keep coming. Not that I am complaining

@Andrex Hello what is your Favor FC ?
SpeedyBee F405-Wing. Cheap available and fully featured.
I don't have Inav. So can't really add much, I do however have the atomRc Swordfish, with FPV camera, it's a great flier. Stable, and floats well. Easy to hand launch. That would be my recommendation

@@ab7rs good point, I never looked into that. Hopefully I don't need to replace anything soon
Great Video. I’ve just put together an ATOMRC Penguin what are your thoughts on that? I’m waiting for some good weather to fly it FPV
Yes, love the Penguin. But it's too agile for a beginner

Great review. Thanks. And I follow RC addict 😁. What a small world it is RC flying
It sure is!
Best first plane in my opinion is the Dragon reptile 2. Very well made and nice to fly.
Yes that is a very smooth flier, and has a proper tail.

Hi Andrew, Are you able to advise on a current site to get genuine Sunnysky motors sent to Aus? Thanks mate
I bought from Banggood years ago but maybe try SunnySky USA. They seem to be the only outlet with a range.

Zippy 3S 2200 works well. But I took the servos out of the battery bay so I can move the batter further back.

good advice...learn to fly LOS first....If you joined a club i doubt they would allow you to fly fpv before you have proved that you can fly LOS.
I think RC Clubs and RC don't usually mix well, at least not here.
