Reverse Sear Venison Roast | Weber Kettle Grill with the Slow N' Sear

  • Today we are doing a revere sear venison roast on the Weber Kettle Grill with the Slow N' Sear.
    This cut of deer meat is typically braised and/or cooked for a long time in a slow cooker, but we thought we'd try the reverse sear method. It turned out great! The roast was flavorful and juicy with a delicious crust from the searing. Recommended!

      in for the grill bbq perhaps someday I'll get a license to hunt - our house is surrounded by game lands, so I won't have to go far lol!
      The sear made a great crust and the venison was super juicy and flavorful, although just slightly on the "chewy" side considering the type of cut. But all in all we were very happy with this cook.

    Yummy!!! However this year I ate my tag for dinner, didn't have the time to get out and hunt like I wanted to. If you ever get the chance to do Deer again, you can pull them off at a much lower temp for a more medium/medium rare cook and it's very good like that. However, that one sure looked good to. A little hard to tell by the picture but it seemed to have some good juice left in it!

    • @BarlowBBQ
      @BarlowBBQ  6 років тому

      Vaughn Precision it was really juicy! My friend John likes to pull it at around 140, but since this was a first try, I wanted to cook it a bit longer just to see how it would turn out. It was really good! Hoping I'll get out for own hunts sometime soon. Thank you for your support and happy New Year! ✌️✌️

    The venison shoulder turned out nice Matthew... cooking it slow and then searing... and you're pretty quick with the draw on the Kershaw...LOL. Thanks! Biggs : )

    • @BarlowBBQ
      @BarlowBBQ  6 років тому

      Biggs' Home Cookin' well I don't know about "slow" because it was only on indirect for about 30 minutes lol. Was running the grill pretty hot that day. But the venison turned out delicious nonetheless! As for the knife, it's got a great thumb action switch that flips the knife open. Makes it real quick and always feels pretty cool too! Hope you're staying warm and we'll up there my friend! ✌️✌️

    • @BarlowBBQ
      @BarlowBBQ  6 років тому

      Mack's BBQ Team it really didn't cook for long. Had it on indirect for about 30 minutes before moving to the sear. Given that it was a roast, yes texture was slightly on the "chewy" side but still juicy and flavorful. In other words, a success! Thank you for coming by, happy New Year to you!

      Rusty KC thank you for coming by - your support means a lot!! So John does not have his own channel, but I will suggest to him that he may want to start! He would do awesome with hunting related content.
      As for the internal temp, I pulled the roast from searing at 155. John suggested 140, but Martha prefers hers to be more on the medium side, so I let it go for a bit longer. The meat was still juicy and flavorful! ✌️✌️

    Nice Cook! I have a venison roast in the freezer that I was going to try like a brisket? Any thoughts? Our daughter's boyfriend hunts and supplies us with some good game meat.

    • @BarlowBBQ
      @BarlowBBQ  6 років тому

      Yeah man - I'd recommend doing a indirect smoke similar to how we did it here on the video. A roast probably won't break down like a brisket would, so it may be tricky to do a full, slow smoke. This was my first time doing a venison roast this way, so it was mostly an experiment to see how it would work!
