Strange to hear "two men" and see three on the screen. Also the claim that they discovered the river was ludicrous, given the local native population.
Thanks Jeff. It's clear that the third man is a Native American guide, and that's clearly mentioned in the scene. The film doesn't say they discovered the river. It says they claimed the river for Charles II.
"... they stumble upon an otherwise unknown and undocumented river..." is roughly the same as discovery. But the river was well known by the many who lived near and used the water.
Claim it or stole it?
Ah. I assume you’re talking about the explorers “claiming” The New for King Charles. Stole might be a more accurate description indeed. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
