some are older 70's
Most are 80's
a few newer ones for comparison
I just seeing the old photos and remembering what Duluth Looked like
when i was a Kid
My family would go there for special occasions. I would always order the BBQ ribs. Before the Radisson was built…As I recall it was at the top of the hill near Central Entrance. I remember always looking for a house down the hill that had a green shingle roof. It always stood out. As I near the end of my life, it is so great to see these photos. They are in my memory, but not in any photos I have. Thank you.
When I saw Snow whites and Pigs.....My heart melted. Thank you
My goodness, such memories. The Red Owl in the Kenwood Plaza is where my parents shopped for groceries, Snow White Foods provided me with my first job, Mr. Gallup at Musicland was a neighbor, and so much more. I left for school the Twin Cities in 1977, but so many of these slides show scenes and places from my growing up years. Thanks for the memories!
Holy shit I didn’t expect the nostalgia cause I didn’t pay attention to anything until the 90s but man that brings back memories.
I loved growing up for part of my childhood and teens in Duluth. Saints Roller Rink was so much fun in the late 70s.
i use to roller skate a lot in the 70's
1 dollar Wednesdays.
I'll admit my mind was blown a bit by that picture - I remember the Saints roller rinks in Roseville (went to that as a really little kid) and Maplewood (last time I was there, Starship's song "Sara" was big on the charts and I was in 5th grade lol), and heard there was at least one more down here in the Cities - but never had any idea there was a Duluth one also! Neat stuff.
@@chouseification There was a Saints in Bloomington also. I was aware of the Saints in Roseville, but not of the two more in Maplewood and Duluth!
@@ericinMN1970 yeah we moved around the country a few times in the early 80s and sadly that chain was coming to an end by the time we moved back to MN. The Roseville one was already closed by then - the building was still there right by the Roseville water tower off Fairview - for many years there was a great Vietnamese restaurant in one of the suites - Anh Dao; also some pet food store and similar were there. It looks like they finally demolished the old building for Saints Roseville in the past handful of years - there's a much smaller party store on the footprint now.
Doing a google search, it seems somebody had reopened the Maplewood one in recent years, but it closed due to Covid (and death of owner?) - Google maps showed me a building that just did not ring a bell at all, so I'm pretty sure that was not where they used to be located.
Thank you so much for this!! So many memories! Kenwood shopping plaza, Piggy Wiggly, Saints Roller Rink, Aladdin's Castle! The 80's were my elementary school and Jr. High School days!
Jerry, this is awesome! So many memories! 👍👍❤️ Thank you! ❤
These are my childhood memories captured on film.
:)
Great to see these pics- I could have been in any of them.
It’s really crazy to me how much this city has changed for better and for worse since I’ve been born... (2003) man I wish I could go back and experience it
Loved seeing this! So many memories at Saints and the Normandy in my teens. The salon next to Snow White was the place my mom and I would go to get our hair done.
Nice stroll through memory lane. Thanks Jerry
city of Duluth did a huge disservice in tearing down the Buena Vista to build over inflated housing
I really miss Aladdin's Castle! I think "Sons of Britches" was right next door.
Aladdin's castle, spent many quarters there. And Kenwood! I went and saw 'The Black Hole' at the movie theater there. Good times.
You and me both! Famous Recipe chicken and Dave's Pizza. Good times.
Thanks for the flash backs!
I lived in Aurora, class of 1991. I always enjoyed going to Duluth.
I worked at the Miller Hill Mall Musicland in the Winter of 1978. Great memeories
wow... @2:27 - Nick Patronas looks so young in that pic. He was a classmate and friend of my dad back in the day, and when I was at UMD I'd regularly say hi to him at the BK on London Road and BS for a few minutes.
Thank u for memories born 1970 duluth
This is really great. Thank you for putting this together!
I loved eating at the Chinese Lantern!
Thanks Jerry, that sure brings back memories.
OHHHH FOR FUN ....THAT WAS GREAT jERRY! A BIG THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT.
For people who are confused, this is in Minnesota.
School stuff thank you
Good stuff
2:35 So, we had an arcade in Duluth. Let's bring it back.
Adventure zone is the closest we have to that now
Love your video Sir, I grew up in superior 1960-1982. I have been looking for any pics or video on the book/record store near Lake St. I don't remember the name but it was a popular hang out. Thank you.
great photos, please post more if you have them!
My Dad drove for Jeno's back then
Aladdin's Castle - Miller Hill Mall? Wasted a lot of time there BITD...
oh yeah. I do remember Alladin's Castle. ah, memories.
me n my girlfriend did some urban exploring in the lincoln hotel back around 1999 it was so freaky
I didn't realize this is what Georgia looked like in the 80s. wild.
Minnesota version. Thanks for viewing
@1:48 that's not a picture from the 1980's! The front of the white car looks like a 1996 Chrysler LHS! The vehicle on the far left, up close to the building looks like a 90's Pontiac Grand Prix.
Normsndy Inn - People on 2nd floor, far right is Evdoxia Gerogeorge. I recognized her hair immediately.
❤❤❤❤
At least 9 salties at anchor. How times have changed.
Great video Jerry are you related to Rock Lewandowski.
I don't think so... but cool name
Who did the drums?
The first slide was a Motel. Was there a restaurant on top with good food and great views? Did anyone ever re-open it as a restaurant. What is there now? We loved going there. Found it and returned many many times.
I believe your referring to the old Radisson hotel and the restaurant on the top actually revolved? Yes just a story on it the other day,new owners
Ok I went back and watched the vid, wrong motel lol, sorry
No one reopened it. It was sold to developers and torn down. Now it is a new building with condos
@@jerrylewandowski7418 Thankyou Jerry. God Bless your day with His Presence.
It seems a bit strange that Dayton's never built a store in Duluth. They had stores in Fargo, St. Cloud, Grand Forks, Bismarck, and Sioux Falls....but not Duluth. Weird.
Where was that first pink motel? I think we stayed there in the '70s.
That was the Cloud 9 also called the beanu Vista
Located at the top of mesaba Ave. Small hotel and great view
the name of the sound track please
Sure. Sky high unemployment and a drop in lake shipping sounds great to return too
@Bend Over Is this a game to you?
geepers ya make it sound like the 80's were ancient times and I remember them as good times, much simpler compared to now.
The 80's were forty years ago. They were ancient times. A huge percentage of the people that were alive back then are dead now.
My grandpa owned Snow White meats
Which one Dick or Donny Miller
My grandpa was named bluege he owned the meat market
Duluth is a depressing town. Atleast these days Anywho.
I agree. That's probably why I live in the 80's...
So many great things...
Most are gone now.
