- The National Railway Museum's Stirling "Single" No 1 being shunted at Southall Railway Depot whilst en route to Waterloo Station to take part in a production of the Railway Children from July to September 2010.
I would love to see this engine return to traffic again over there in the UK (I'm American, but I love old British locomotives!), the Stirling Single is simply beautiful and a work of art in and of itself!
Patrick Stirling knew what he was doing! First locomotive to break 85 miles an hour, and one of the most beautiful in my opinion!
This engine should never be scraped ever! Nor the Flying Scotsman, Mallard, City of Touro, Tornado, or any other steam engine that is in working order! Scrap a old diesel or some thing but leave our steam engines alone!!
steam really was art, from the most modest workhorse right up to the mighty Mallard etc. Art
That looks like Emily since she is an Emerald Steam Locomotive and it has a huge Driving wheel!
What a splendid engine
Good going Dan and beautiful wife Denise. I am retired and at 67 still in the green movement. I am a member of Thrive the movement. I recommend them strongly.
My theory on scrappers and vandals is that since they are involved in an illegal activity, they don't tell others what they are doing or where they are going.
So if they are caught in our yard, their disaperance leaves no trail. And since they have such a sleazy group of associates, the police will have an unlimited set of suspects.
We scrap defective people, not desirable equipment.
It's a two-way street.
Love to it steam up again
What a true beauty .... I travelled from Australia to York just to see her ... Is anyone able to advise the correct colour scheme for this loco?
I can't look at a C8 Shunter and not hear "Pop goes the Diesel" going through my head. On a different note: Where's the tender for the Stirling Single? Was it just not featured in the video?
I know it was a Class 08. I was trying to abbreviate.
gnr 3 stirling single. basis of emily on thomas and friends
she had no funnel and lovely engine and that massive driving wheel
is she going to be in steam for the production?
Is this locomotive steamable?? What happened to tender?.
So you're back again, I see. Nice to have you back, dear chap... Not.
@sammyb1929
no she will not be in steam
Just don't disrespect the British community with your comments. Please stick to the American locomotives or Turkish, something like that. Not British.
