    Need to offset the baffles further overlapped, by around half that will stop the char bouncing up

    Good Idea, I have to build a crusher , Have located two mill heads that are worn out from an Amish feed mill hope to get them this week. Its like when someone gives you a horse, then you need a saddle and then a trailer and on and on

    At around 5:23 on this video they use an electric crusher/schredder to crush the char. Looks like they modified the top to make a larger hopper. These things run at low rpm and have a rotating barrel to crush garden waste. Looks like zero dust. ua-cam.com/video/Zh61x7KY1CU/v-deo.htmlsi=QKVFsTb_ZtVics2I

    ah, a little dust, that's 'Macho Air' mate! lol J/k. Can you make a vacuum system like carpenters have in their shops? :)

    thought of some thing else i have out on my block that might work for milling the charcoal to size and thats an old corn cracker i have had for years used to use it to mill grain for the pigs many years ago , it has a flat belt pulley on it to run from a tractor but i could change that because my old grey fergie which is the only tractor i have with a flat belt drive pulley is not a runner and wont be for quite a while, have to look into that when i get chance i rekon if i open it right up it will work ...johno

    Did you consider putting a lid on the hopper, and installing a slide gate between the hopper and the mill? With the slide gate closed, fill the hopper, then close the lid, then open the slide gate.

    G,day mate . i am going to have a crack at making some bio char . i have 86 acres with tons of dead wood (mainly iron bark and mountain gum and some wattle )so not short of stuff to feed the fire just have to cut a drum to start making it . i have been thinking (dangerous for me to think but i cant help it )to crush it i thought i would just try chucking some in the cement mixer with a couple of round river rocks for a few minutes what ya rekon . i do have an old hammer mill but i think the dust would be to much and the stuff would come out like flour .

      I tried the cement mixer idea and found it slow and the char was not a consistent size if you slow down your hammer mill and put a big screen in it it will work the dust is the problem. John

    Great video as always John - I think your couple of new ideas will cut down the dust- it’s just a learn as you go thing👍how did the trap go? Did you get any pork belly 😁👍

      We caught 2 small pigs so far. We are going to give them a couple of days in the trap then put them in the Pig Stye. Grow them out. John

    Hey mate thats seems good idea but i wonder if you just made the top seal better and weld a couple slides level with that gap in the rear and just put a pullout shute similar to a silo or something that way you can adjust the feed of speed just by how much you pull it out and you can fill the bugger up in way less loads because the existing size is actually pretty decent?
    Just a thought

      Originally thats what that gap was for. I have since decided that the rotating drum would be easier and its just a matter of how fast you rotate it as to how fast it feeds. The machine eats the char quick as you like. The engine never slows down etc. the only thing that effects the char size at all is the more revs the finer the grind. The grind is not perfectly even as you can understand but its perfect for what I want. John

    Hey John, another great video, i wonder if a spray bar at the top of the hopper might work to keep the dust down? Or maybe slow the cruncher down.

      I have played with the speed and it makes the size of the crushed char change, the faster the finer it gets the crushed char is the size I want it now. I will see how it goes and try something else if I am not happy. John

    Hey mate. I have an opportunity to buy a hammermill run off a single phase electric motor. Do you think that might be suitable to process char?

    • @farminglifeaustralia6716
      @farminglifeaustralia6716  22 дні тому

      I think most hammer mills would do the job you might need to slow it down. Basically the one I built is a hammer mill. John

    Speed is your problem. More torque less speed a crush it slowly.
