The acid rain problem in Europe and North America has largely abated because of stronger SO2 and NOx emission controls, such as the U.S. Clean Air Act of 1970, the Canada-United States Air Quality Agreement in 1991, and similar measures in Europe. The Montreal Protocol has thus succeeded in safeguarding the ozone layer, leading to notable recovery of the ozone layer in the upper stratosphere and decreased human exposure to harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. I was told the same thing growing up but I actually followed up on these issues and took the consensus opinion that we actually solved these because of stronger pollution controls. People need to stay grounded and not believe solely on talking points and conspiracy theories.
The Ozone depletion got better since we reduced the usage of CFCs, HCFCs and halons (ozone-depleting substances). It will be fixed around 2025, because they are banned since 1974.
