As others have pointed out, Doubling Season doesn't work with spell copy tokens, so instead I recommend using Branching Evolution instead. Half the CMC and like 1/5th the price. Also, a banger card in general for this deck (especially with something like Shivan Devistators) WARNING this comment has basically turned into an essay... wasn't my original intention but here we are... I could have probably made a video on my own, but am too lazy to try. Also, for anyone that wants some other possible recommendations, here are some fun cards I have in my version of the deck: Card X card draw, I actually think that Diviner's Portent and Finale of Revelation are better X card draw spells if you have a good mana base. Big Mana Producers like Mana Geyser and Jeska's Will are really fun in this deck. I would add Mana Drain and Plasa Capture in this category as well, they can create a TON of mana. Also, if anyone likes the Evolve mechanic and wants to build around it, I definitely recommend Gyre Sage, Fathom Mage, and the enchantments Elemental Bond, Garruk's Uprising, and Temur Ascendancy. Definitely recommend Pest Infestation especially in this deck with the doubling with your commander you can clear everyone's artifacts and enchantments and have a pretty big board after Kodama of the West Tree and Kessig Wolf Run are great ways to give your creatures more evasion also finishing power. Also, Kodama ramps you are well. Definitely recommend Thousand-Year Elixir, Patriar's Seal, and Magewright's Stone if you like the untap shenanigans. Freed from the Real and Pemmin's Aura can really help with this too, turning every blue mana into an additional 2 colorless and an extra copy. I feel that Elementalist's Palette is excellent in X spell decks as a mana rock Thought Vessel and Reliquary Tower are necessary in decks that draw so many cards both from X draw spells and from the Ravenous mechanic. There are a bunch of X counter spells like Condescend, Mindswipe, and Spell Burst (Which is the best one). They are quite good but can be quite evil and salt inducing depending on the group. Also depends on how much interaction you like to play. Chord of Calling and Green Sun's Zenith can be a great substitute for Finale of Devastation if you don't want to fork over that much money, just tutor Clamavus plus Winged Hive Tyrant/Herald of Secret Streams and its GG. Also any creature finisher would work too like Triumph of the Hordes, or Overwhelming Stampede Alchemist's Refuge is a pretty sneaky card. It is usually not good enough because it is 3 mana to give something flash, but that is definitely doable in this deck Culmination of Studies is a fun card, but I don't know if it is worth it If you like Animist's Awakening (I personally don't, but I don't judge) Kamahl's Druidic Vow is a pretty similar card Bonfire of the Damned can be brutal for 2 opponents if you top deck it... it's inconsistent but looks fun Thran Dynamo is a very efficient mana rock that is easy to weave into a turn, but I removed it from my deck for now. Might add it back later. Rosheen Meanderer is very similar but is a mana dork and probably isn't necessary if you are spending this much on the deck, but is cool if you are on a budget. If you like adding mini-games to your decks, you could add the tron lands Urza's Mine, Power Plant, and Tower and use cards like Nylea's Intervention, Scapeshift, and crop rotation etc. to get them into play. This deck can actually use the mana unlike most random Commander decks, so that could be cool. Another mini-game you could play is Helix Pinnacle... with 100 mana you win. Mass Manipulation can be hilarious in this deck because the commander basically makes the double X into a single X and you can Insurrection everyone's creates/planeswalkers forever On the topic of doing something different, if you want you could add an entire flash package with Alchemist's Refuge, Seedborn Muse, Wilderness Reclamation, Vedalken Orrery, Leyline of Anticipation, Kruphix, God of Horizons. If you do, you might as well play more X instant and sorceries here are more recommendations for that: Zaffai, Thunder Conductor, Metallurgic Summonings, Shark Typhoon, Manaform Hellkite, Mizzix of the Izmagnus, and Deekah, Fractal Theorist. Also, Storm King's Thunder would be dumb in that deck, but it would be funny. Additionally, here are some more cool Hydras that weren't mentioned in the video that definitely deserver a look: Mistcutter Hydra - has HASTE and a little bit of evasion Ochre Jelly - a VERY sticky creature that can basically become immortal with a Branching Evolution in play Hydroid Krasis - Flyes and draws a ton of cards Savageborn Hydra - the double strike can kill people out of nowhere if it gets evasion from anything Steelbane Hydra - More removal attached to a Hydra Wildwood Scourge - works really well in a deck with Hydras and Tyranids Lifeblood Hydra - Has Tramnple but if it dies it draws so many cards and gains so much life. Makes getting board cleared not so bad. Voracious Hydra - It is a slightly worse Mawloc and a slightly worse Primordial Hydra in one Trampling Hydra. This card wins games either with haste with the double counters or with removing 2 key creatures on the board on ETB. Here are recommendations for cards I want but don't have and aren't sure about how good they are (but are pretty sure they are very good) The Great Henge - this card just kinda does everything ramp, life gain, card draw, and 1/1 counters Apocalypse Hydra - Creature removal attached to a Hydra Zendikar Resurgent - doubles mana and draws lots of cards Treasonous Ogre - sacrificing life for mana to win the game could be cool. Just don't own it Dockside Extortionist - obvious why the red monkey is good Gaea's Cradle - make a billion mana Concordant Crossroads - Gives all of your creatures haste, which could be cool Kalonian Hydra - doubles counters on all creatures. Looks like a powerhouse Selvala, Heart of the Wilds - Lots of card draw and incredible amount of ramp... honestly perfect for the deck Silkguard and March of Swirling Mist - are good protection from removal and board wipes respectively Astral Cornucopia - cool mana rock that your commander can double Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider - can also do what Branching Evolution/ Doubling Season does Thank you if anyone read this far. I really like Magus Lucea Kane as a commander, as she basically does what I had wished Zaxara, my first commander, had done all along. It's a long story, but Zaxara's tokens enter as 0/0s and don't trigger Evolve, even though that's how people were building the deck when I first built the deck. I had to pull the deck apart because of this. Any way, here is my list for anyone who is interested. The main board has a couple extra cards I want but don't own yet, make some cuts as you see fit. The sideboard has all the cards I removed from the precon and the considering tab has a lot of cards from when this deck was a 4 color Zaxara secret commander deck (don't ask), so don't actually consider all of them... www.moxfield.com/decks/y_lbFkLvh0ecrzti2NhPpw
A card I think is underrated is Alora Merry Thief. Have a huge ravenous creature attack unblocked then return it to your hand so next turn you get to make another copy of it and draw more cards with ravenous. It's also why I like Capsize and Run Away Together - you can either bounce any problematic creatures or bounce your Ravenous/clone creatures to recast and make copies and get triggers.
I didn't go that crazy of an upgrade for this deck. what I did was replace eight cards. added All three guild lands, uncivil unrest, rhythm of the wild, branching evolution, primal vigor, rites a flourishing and decided to use the backup Commander instead of the face commander.
From what people have said below, Doubling Season doesn't work in regards to using Magus Lucea Kane's Ability. However, looking over the main 3 Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, and Primal Vigor, I do believe that Primal Vigor would be solution to replacing Doubling Season and achieving a similar effect. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as the card just states 'If one or more tokens would be put onto the battlefield, twice that many of those tokens are put onto the battlefield instead.' It doesn't state that it needs to be done through an effect but purely by a token being put onto the battlefield. Because of this, I do believe that it will resolve and generate that 3rd copy.
I believe doubling season still works. If you use a mimic sort of thing or clone legion type of effect, THEN I think it enters with no counters. I interpret doubling season as changing the number of tokens created, and all the tokens in this creation have counters
@@jacksons9546 I did a little digging, and I'm not so sure it does. From what I've come to understand; when Kane's ability triggers, it is copying a spell and whatever X was when the spell was cast. Once that spell resolves, a token is created. Then doubling season sees that token and creates a second one. However, doubling season doesn't recognize what X was when the original spell was cast, making X 0 for the token.
@@Skyfysh I'm really curious about this myself, cause doubling season it's a really expensive card to not get full fuction and i would probably like to get more card draw instead
@@andresfeliperodriguez2651 So, I did a little more digging, and doubling season doesn't work, but not for the reason I thought. Doubling Season makes it so an effect creating a token creates twice as many. A copied spell resolving is not an effect, a copied permanent spell just enters as a token. So doubling season would not trigger. So I'm probably going to pull mine from my deck. The mana cost is too high, and if you don't own one, it's really expensive for just a counter doubler.
Upon further review, you are correct. The wording of Doubling Season says “when an effect would create a token” technically copying a spell with Magus is not an effect creating a token but instead making a copy that is a token. Super wonky wording but doubling counters on everything is still a very powerful effect!
Nice to see you added the Crackle with Power for the win, I definitely approve. There are a few cards I wouldve added myself for ramp, also probably woulda put in a branching evolution. Anyone looking for a more budget doubling season then branching evolution and Adrix and Nev are a 2 card replacement for you if you truly want to use the two utilities without paying 89 bucks. Also Nyxbloom Ancient and Rosheen Meanderer will produce you 12 colorless, I would fit in a seedborn Muse for the fact that we have that interaction as well as our commander. I think the last card would be maybe an Arlinn the packs hope and Alchemist Refuge to interact at instant speed after an enemy turn to make the most of seedborn. The mana base can always be better but that should be up to the player. Good video, Love your guys' takes and that you respond keep it up!
Can this deck be a high power level keeping most of the tyranids? My main goal is to keep it close to tyranid themed as possible. But my play group usually plays power level 7 and higher
The main spell i feel is missing here it's animist's awakening for ramp, you could cut some other card for it, it's only $1. Also i feel we need to get more card draw like finale of revelation, silver scrutiny, elemental bond and garruk's uprising. I would take one of the most expensive cards you added to get those.
No, Animist awakening is fine for sure. but with playing blue playing things like elemental bond and garruk uprising is making the draw weaker, when you can play rhystic study and other great blue spells. Playing the X tyranids and using the commander to pay for them nets you two copies and drawing 2. As well as playing pull from tomorrow with unbound flourishing or with the commander would net you probably more cards then you know what to do with. Finale of revelation is sorcery speed and shouldnt be played in a 300 dollar deck, sliver scrutiny is ok but in a last ditch effort to dig youll be limiting yourself with the requirement to flash it out being x=3 or less. Also I said animist awakening is fine as long as you play it right, if you play it for like 20 and dig out all the lands out of your deck without spell mastery those lands wont be untapped and youll be instant archenemy. I wouldnt disagree with your picks for a more budget build.
Power is entirely subjective you will get different answers from whomever you ask. However, I think this a lower power deck because the wincon is getting big creatures and stomping, which takes time. Lucea will probably never be a high power deck unless you moved to some kind of pure ramp and combo playstyle.
