He belongs in the NASCAR Hall of Fame. What an injustice to a great man and innovator.

My friend is rebuilds engines for a living. Years ago his boss sent him to Smokey and Smokey taught him how to port heads. He has an autographed poster from back then.

I grew up with Mr. Yunick's son Sam. Used to hang out to hang out at the house. Remember when his Sams dad landed his helicopter in the back yard for lunch. Ha ha . I asked Sam, can't your dad show up lime normal dads.....like in a car. God rest both their soils. Good man

This man is a true American Hero, I wish Ken Burns would do the story of his life . So the rest of America can just see what a Genius he really was.

"...found out that the books wasn't true because I kept doin' things they said can'r be done..." lol.
What a guy man. Ol' Smokey, one big damn inspiration(even though I still learning about engines and shit, I always think of him and Dick Proenneke. Both men had incredible tenacity and resolve when it came to working on steel and engines....more than the engines could handle. They sure mastered their trade.
Ain't no more good mechanics no more. Buncha bean counters and computer work. No real wrenchin'.

Reading about Smokey's life and work changed my brain. I have a better life as a result. Genius is a great word for him, but he was the mentor I never got to meet.

Met Smokey and his wife in the mid 90s, and his wife had the biggest thermos of coffee I had ever seen.

That shirt in the beginning was a true WTF moment, Autoshop was literally meters from my school. Still remember the empty feeling when Lennart and Bigitta moved to the states...
