I love listening to his playing on my Apple TV. I hear no other play Bach like him. Purist at heart and knows where to provide the most musical attention to in his recordings.
Great video. Still remember my first time hearing Koopman play this peice on a recording of the great Gabler organ many years ago. Went from loving Rock and Heavy Metal music the most to loving Baroque/organ music the most.Thank you Ton Koopman and NBS for this performance!
This exact thing got me one of my best friends in university. Guy was 1000% metalhead, self-proclaimed. Posters, shirts, all of it. I dragged him to a nearby church whose organist I'd befriended (no ulterior motives there I swear), and I played him some of the more fiery toccatas and such, like this. Though I used the F minor specifically. By the end of that year I had him dragging HIS friends to my and my friends' end of year recitals. Sorry for the prosaic description there. Just, this comment really struck a chord for me! To bring it home... Ton Koopman has not only the power to bring metalheads to Bach, but also the power to break snobby teenaged Organists out of their "anything before french romantic is boring" phase. (Yes, that was me 20 years ago. Koopman made me finally embrace Bach and now I can barely bring myself to work on other repertoires!)
Amazing! Great performance!! Energy! Elegance and ornaments! Perfect… Good tempo! If you think… this man make this recording when he was almost 80 years old…
@@NikkiJ-rd8dr Why is Bach often regarded as one of the greatest composers in Western music, and how did his works bridge the Baroque period with future musical developments?
@@Nickkelvin-v3e Since I too just recently started enjoying Bach, all that I can say is he was truly blessed with a great gift that impacts on so many levels. I’m really not the one to answer any questions you may have about Bach since I am a rookie
This performance is out of this world, however it appears that he is playing the wrong notes in the beginning pedal intro, but the notes sound correct. Can anyone explain this? Is it the tuning of the organ?
@@bach Thanks so much for the clarification, and I of course meant no offense to the genius that is Mr. Koopman. I listen to all of your videos and they have inspired me to learn organ as well! Thanks!

And did anybody noticed his watch on his arm? How many takes did it take the great Mr.Koopman to record this, to be honest, very simle work for beginners?)))
La fuga...muy embarullada...no se distingue...ni siquiera el tema...que es muy bonito...no aprovecha los teclados, para la sonoridad y que se note el tema ..Se ha olvidado que es un Órgano, no un Clave... It is C minor, but the pitch of the organ is different from what is common nowadays. You can find more information in this video: ua-cam.com/video/a_82tmeYEyo/v-deo.html&vl=nl
Okay you've got the Koopman recordings for posterity, done. Literally any of the other regular organ players in your stable of musicians are better than this.
I listened to probably 20 different recordings and other then koopman playing faster the sound blows any other recording out of the water. Your opinion is pointless man go listen to who you think is better because no one really cares what you think.
@@ericlapaglia5307 Your response not only indicates that you do indeed care what I think, but also that deep down you agree with me. If you were confident in your opinion, why reply with a shame driven response? A shame driven response suggests my comment made you feel shame. As shame begets shame you must have felt shame. I'm sorry I made you feel shame Eric - believe in your own tastes! Self esteem is a wonderful thing so don't worry what I think, it's all good. Presumably if no one cares about an negative opinion, than no one cares about a positive opinion either right? So I'm sure you're writing responses in a similar vein to the countless people who has expressed love an praise for Koopman's performance in the comments here as well as the few detractors. As an aside, maybe don't admit there is a fault in the performance as it sort of undermines yourself. But I will say, there are many more faults in this Koopman performance aside from the pacing/tempo as you so correctly pointed out. I just feel Koopman does not need this publicity, he is already (overly, in my opinion) famous and the All of Bach project has a stable of organists who could use the exposure and would probably (again, in my own opinion) perform this piece, or any other Bach organ piece, better.
Classic sign of insecurity. Take your edgelord BS elsewhere - you have stopped NOBODY from enjoying this piece. Away with you and add this to your long list of failures.

Bach played on this organ by this man is an out of this world experience. He took us onto an outer orbit of human experience.
It must be AMAZING to work with the all-time master player, conductor, and scholar T. Koopman. What a lively performance for this masterpiece

A perfectly performed prelude with stunning virtuoso footwork by maestro Ton Koopman 🎵😌🎶
Koopmans gesture at the end, marvelous!
I've listened to this, and all of Bach's other organ works, over the course of my life, and they never fail to renew me.
We are in the presence of greatness.
Thank you Ton.
This is such an amazing work!!!
Wonderful, Bach for all ages and Bach ages well in these aged hands. Thank you!
Ascolto Bach dal 1992 ...sempre quando posso e a 56 anni ancora non mi stanca. Eterno Bach 😊❤ Saluti da Lecce South Italy Baroque City 🏖🕍⛪❤🌅
Koopman masterful as usual, Bach at 20 yet was perfect.
Zo’n mooi fugathema. Mijn vader speelde dit vroeger toen we als kind de blaadjes omsloegen. Mooie herinneringen.

There are no organ builders today capable of creating a sound like those of Hildebrandt.

He is certainly playing the right notes. The tuning of the organ is not Well Tempered but Neidhardt I, so that might be what confuses you
