  • Lebanon's foreign minister Abdallah Bou Habib speaks to Sky's Alex Crawford about the exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah across the border.
Over the past six months of the Israel-Hamas war, Lebanon has frequently been drawn into the conflict.
Asked about Israel's determination to retaliate against Iran, Mr Habib says Lebanon is worried and that "any kind of revenge is going to end up with a bigger war".
He says: "We have to work for a two-state solution" and it will be "the solution for most of the problems in the Middle East".

British giving someone’s land away is the problem

    • @EspenFrafalne
      @EspenFrafalne Місяць тому +1

Im not sure it is correct to say that Britain gave away someones land. Quote from ChatGPT:
"The region known as Palestine was under Ottoman rule until the end of World War I. After the war, the Ottoman Empire collapsed, and the League of Nations granted Britain a mandate to administer Palestine and Transjordan (modern-day Jordan) in 1920 under the terms of the Treaty of Sèvres and the Treaty of Lausanne. This mandate was aimed at establishing a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine, while also safeguarding the civil and religious rights of the non-Jewish communities in the area.
During the British Mandate period (1920-1948), tensions between Jewish and Arab communities escalated due to conflicting national aspirations. Britain faced challenges in fulfilling its mandate obligations, leading to increasing violence and unrest.
In 1947, the United Nations proposed a partition plan for Palestine, which would have divided the land into separate Jewish and Arab states, along with an international zone for Jerusalem. The Jewish leadership accepted the plan, but Arab leaders rejected it, leading to the outbreak of the Arab-Israeli War in 1948.
Following the war, the State of Israel was established on May 14, 1948, and Britain withdrew from Palestine. The British Mandate formally ended, and Israel declared independence."

@@rosspearson2805 Im getting the impression that they lived in peace before the Ottoman empire fell, and the Jews and Arabs suddenly got those "conflicting national aspirations", and started fighting over it BEFORE the UN decided maybe it was a good idea to split them up so they could have their own area. Im guessing this particular situation is pretty well documented, so what ChatGPT is saying about it is probably correct.

The discussion in this war is absurd.
First. Israel acted selflessly to live in peace with the Palestinians in Gaza. It was more than a decade ago when Israel itself ordered Israeli citizens who had lived there for decades to literally leave their homes. The first thing the Palestinians did in return was to elect a government that enshrined the goal of destroying Israel in the constitution. The elected government followed through with its promise. Since its founding, thousands of rockets have flown into Israeli settlement areas. Dozens of civilians died in terrorist attacks. Millions of aid funds - intended for civilian institutions - were misused to sponsor this terrorism. October 7th was just what Humus had been doing for years.
Secondly. Israel behaved more humanely in this conflict than any other conceivable party in any imaginable conflict. It allowed Palestinians to work in Israel, receive medical care or even migrate to Israel. During war, they warn civilians where their military is operating. They admit collateral damage and apologize for it.
The situation is clear. In no other conflict the responsibility for the suffering has been so one sided and clear - in no other conflict have the perpetrators been held accountable so weakly. People with voice and power who claim to reject war and the nature of war have a duty to unequivocally name the culprit of this war and do everything in their power to eliminate them. Everything else is responsibility for the resulting suffering and is as history has proved continuing this madness.

    Paradigm shift,
By destroying the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Israel broke international law and endangered world peace. Iran responded in a very balanced way by using its old drones and missiles to do little damage.
If Israel once again celebrates aggression, it will definitely be excluded from the world community.
Iran will be a far more attractive partner for the USA in the Persian Arab region than Israel.
Israel will have to accept this, unless it wants to risk an Iran-Israel war, which would also mean the end of Israel.
A paradigm shift is currently taking place and that is encouraging.
What we need now, however, is the UN's irrevocable recognition of the Palestinian state so that the Palestinian population can live in security, self-determination and freedom
