The cyclist clearly has no regard for safety. He narrowly avoided being run over by just 87 seconds. Also there were pedestrians walking too close to the barriers, which is dangerous because they might be knocked over by a gust of wind. Lastly the car is too red and other road users might mistake it for a red traffic signal, so they should be fined as well.

Sometimes it can use just as much gas starting your car after switching it off for just a couple minutes. Also it’s not good to be stopping and staying a Diesel engine. Unless your car has AutoStop or you’re going to be sitting for 5-10+ minutes it’s probably not worth turning the car off. Just put it in P/N and the handbrake on

We had the same issue at a local crossing we had here. Almost the exact set up with the bridge on the side. So what the local authorities did was replace the original boom barriers like the ones you have on this video to one that slides onto the road when a train approached. It would close off the sidewalk before the road. It minimised the chance of people trying to race the boom barriers and they were silly enough they would need to cross onto the road to get across.

In the States, a train crossing gate is never closed more than 30 seconds before the train arrives. Of course, people still drive around gates all the time, and they drive under four quadrant gates like these.
Makes sense to close it off. A railway bridge 2 minutes up the road on the other side of the station has been closed and presumably strengthened over the summer of 2018 into 2019, which is a much better alternative to cross the railway while 'most' pedestrians can use that footbridge. It's also quite bait that the platform needs lengthening, seeing as that carridge dangled in the middle of the road while the train was at a platform. Presumably selective door opening, quite a frequent occurrence on the rail network now.
Yeah, the platform extensions will help. There's been apparently a lot of work done for diversion routes across the railway. Considering the crossing was a misuse hotspot - yeah it was for the best.
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel Yep, I went to the area last June. Surprised such crossing even existed in its format, especially with its location and other adjacent roads nearby.

There was some major roadworks going on with one of the nearby road bridges which was causing horrible traffic. One driver sat in the yellow box for almost 4 minutes 🙄 It's apparent the crossing is to be completely removed for platform extensions. NR have been wanting to close this crossing from misuse anyway so it makes sense to extend the platforms in the other direction. The platform extensions will allow for the 12car trains to fit completely in the station.
Glad this crossing is closing as I have to deal with the aftermath of it for NR. For people not familiar with Feltham West, the platform is literally just out of shot and people are forever walking from the platform down on to the crossing and vice versa. Misuse rates of this crossing are horrendous
Misuse cameras were considered but in all honesty they really don't prevent misuse as other crossings with them show, I believe this option was chosen because the area is meant to undergo a redevlopment so it's a good time to do it, that and the fact that Network Rail are trying to close as many crossings as possible. Other misuse prevention options in busy areas such as this generally don't accomplish much either, it's like trespass, people always find a way on to the lines even with fencing and such. Safety awareness is the big one but it seems no matter how many videos, social media posts, local meetings and talks ect are held at the end of the day people are people. People want to save that extra few seconds to get across. Pedestrians chance it at crossings where theres a footbridge availiable so its a losing battle. Even people being killed doesnt seem to deter people, while theres no 3rd rail on the crossing, people trespassing on the tracks to get up to the platform come awfully close to it and I'm willing to bet the vast majority of them have no idea that rail has juice flowing through it.
It's unfortunate that people don't understand the risks as it must cost NR so much for upgrades, new footbridges and by-passes and closures of crossings. There's only so much that can be done. Thanks for the info.

The funny thing is the idiot with the bike had to wait at the other side for his mate to come over the bridge! He could just as easily have carried his bike over the bridge😂
These particular crossings aren't automatically triggered, but instead manually lowered by a signaller at a control centre, with the crossing monitored by CCTV. Once the crossing is lowered and cleared, the approach signals can be set to green and the train can proceed. This is why it usually takes a few minutes for a train to pass at one of these crossings.
The lights flash, the gates go down, and you wait, and wait, and wait, and wait some more. Geez, in the U.S. once the gate go down it's maybe 15-20 seconds for the train. Talk about overprotection.
Keeping the gates down after one train passes if a second train is on the approach is one thing, but dropping the gates and then waiting forever is a bit too much. The standard for the U.S. and Canada is about 30 seconds between gate activation and train passage. It basically works. Of course, in your country or mine, or others, you're still going to have idiots who ignore flashing lights and crossing gates. You can't protect everyone from everything every time.
Yeah, crossings in the UK can be closed much longer than US crossings, especially the full barrier ones. It's all to do with safety and railway signalling.

A bloke that was on the crossing carried on when the red lights were flashing and the exit barrier hadn't started to drop.
No one leapt over a barrier.
I watched the whole thing expecting something else to happen lol.
Well it is technically. Not stopping on red lights. Misuse incidents can be major or minor.
2 people did leap the barrier in 2019 & were killed instantly at this crossing
nice double train action
I always thought Feltham could accommodate 10 carriage trains?
I think it was only 8 l carriages, however after the crossing was removed and platforms extended, I think it's now 12 carriages
How many coaches do the 458s have in one unit? I can’t exactly make it out from the video
Pretty sure theres 5 per unit
Thank you sir
Wonderful but why is it closing. Are they building a bridge😎😢?
Thank you! The crossing is unfortunately permanently closing due to excessive misuse and trespassing incidents. Additionally, platforms are to be extended to cater for the longer SWR trains.
UK Level Crossings Channel they should have just put in better cctv
@@LiftEnthusiast2020OFFTOPIC CCTV often doesn't stop people from being a prat it just records people being a prat
Looks like the guy, or should i say idiot is totally out of touch with his surroundings, he runs the red lights, then he stands with his bike in other peoples way. One day some poor individual will be scraping him off a railway line or road near you.
jon townsend Yep. I’ve seen what a train can do to a man and it’s not pretty.
@@deltanovember1672 really? That's horrible! I use to volunteer for a harritage railway and I've dealt with the aftermath of some sheep being cut in two from being ran over by a train just doing just around 10mph and that was bad enough!
I almost got closed by the railroad crossing but it’s closed and there’s a train coming to me I dodged both of them I survived 😯😯
I’m confused, where was the misuse?
The cyclist at the start jumping the red lights
UK Level Crossings Channel oh
This is now history.
Yeah it is, unfortunately.
that guy with the bike wanted to play with a train
what am I looking at here, apart from the glitch in the Matrix at 2.14?!?
Went through Feltham a few times on way to M25 M1, it was full of arseholes pedestrians and twatish van drivers everywhere .
I think Feltham must be one of the many orbital dodgy areas that feed of London.
Yeah, it's not the nicest area I've been to, to be honest.
Funny. I tought the two guys in orange who took the overpass were Hare Krishna before seeing them on the other side as workers with safety orange suits !
This crossing is being closed forever in March next year.
Ah right, I thought it was earlier. Thanks for that 👍
Nice, people like screwing their lifes up for misusing crossings, look to the accident in Oss where 4 little child died and 1 child + overseer, heavily injured, just because brakes of the kid transport thingy (Stint) didn't brake..
Me and the rest of the country The Netherlands find it terrible, so do people if you look to it, changes your life to NOT misuse.
I read about that incident a few days ago. Whilst not directly linked to misuse, it is shocking how such an incident occured with the electric carts. Very bad the fact that four young kids were killed 😑😑
Work Will Not Be Coming Until Summer 2020
No looks like around Christmas now..
Over 140,000 views! You guys are insane!
Yeah quite impressive isn't it 😁
All gone now 😩
Yeah I know 😐
are these diesel trains?
Electric - powered by an electrified 3rd rail which a train connects to
Misuse?
I used to live in Feltham, Clymping Dene behind the park 😁
Prince Fluffy
I visit there quite regularly and this was the most dangerous I’ve seen it😁
Hey You Filmed It Where I Live!
Same 🤣
It'd be stranger if they filmed the crossing where you *don't* live.
Is it because the train stopped on the crossing
Great video!
Thank you! 😎👍
i remember this a an old wooden gates
It isnt a loot box, its a surprise mechanic
*it isnt misuse, its surprise selection*
This will be closed permanently at some y
End of this year or next year I believe 😏
And I used the trains to get to hounslow from vauxhall from London Easton from BIRMINGHAM NEW STREET
why did i see a train ad before that video?
That wasn't that bad
united states need this kind of gates so that driver don't go around the gates
Yeah. A lot of crossings in the UK have full road width barriers with skirting. Although, there's usually a slightly longer wait for a train.
What a pretty train
Great video! I subscribed!
Thank you! 😁
What misuse? I saw no misuse?
The cyclist on the right side
They're all moaning over nothing.
Not really. It's stupid people that don't know what red lights mean. Of course, you would understand it's dangerous and would use the footbridge.
Well that's plenty enough evidence to prosecute him, whoever he is.
This level crossing is closing anyway lol
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel That doesn't make his actions any less illegal. I'm sure the Metropolitan Police would be interested in watching this.
He had ages to cross.
0:19 0:51 UH OH
So what happened could not see anything happen,!!!!!
The cyclist at the starting jumping the red lights
Feltham is not in London OK people.
Feltham is in London, it's in the borough of Hounslow and people with London Travel cards can travel to and from there.
Guess the rail company?!.😆
Julia Naylor South west tra-I mean south western railway
That guy gives zero fucks
Nice Jamie
Thanks
TRENUL ROMANIEI!
We have lots of fossil fuel, let's waste it.
The drivers should turn off their engines while waiting to be honest.
Global climate change is not possible when the FE model is used.
Nice Jamie XD
Thanks mate 😃
Perfect👍
Thank you! 👍
#AlwaysACyclist ... Great video Jamie :)
Yeah, cyclists think red lights don't apply to them. Now they'll have to use a bridge 😉 Thanks 👍
where is the misuse? pointless video
Cyclist in the yellow shirt crossing when the lights were red.
I live here
BASRA hjkjhhbf same 🤣
UK level crossing s channel! Ha ha half lol
Ii
Boring
*Misuse* My arse
Cyclist quite clearly jumped the red lights when there's a perfectly open footbridge right beside him
