Hi, I followed the video and tried to update the 18M firing systems. When I went to the portal and tried uploading snappy images. The modules just shut down. Now I can't get them to turn back on it's like they're dead. Any ideas for troubleshooting? I know this is an older video but, not sure what to do I did try contacting Scott to see what he says to do. Thought you might have some tips.
Hey Tim. Really important question, I tried updating my 18R2 to 4.0.0 and now its stuck on Er6. What went wrong? Should the flash drive have the Cobra S19 file on it only, because mine had other word documents etc. Need help asap
Hi Tim, Great video - thank you! I have successfully updated my 18R2 and Audio Box, however, I'm not sure how to proceed with my 18M modules. When I 'find nodes' they do not show up as 'A' or 'B' the way that yours do in the video. I have one 18MB, which I would assume was the B version, but I thought that all of my modules (5) were the same. The others are showing 18M_ZIC... Should I update the other 4 as version A, or am I doing something wrong?

Another good way to verify is physically looking at the 18M units. www.cobrafiringsystems.com/hardwareversion.html - this link quickly illustrates how to determine that just by looking for the lack of a "metal chip" on the back of the unit in hardware B scenarios. The presence of it indicates A. Hopefully this helps if not reach back out!
Hi Tim, Elise here - writing from my husband's UA-cam. I successfully updated one type-A and one type-B, but on three of the A units the batteries died in the middle of the firmware update and now they won't power back on. What do we need to do now? We have a show tomorrow night and are a little anxious!! Thanks so much for help.
+Charles Furer Hey Elise, with the units in ARM they should still report in portal like after you completed the find node steps. They won't show P but think of them in P mode. You should just complete the reflash portion of the video. I'm actually out on a shoot site right now getting ready. If you continue to have issues place a call to Scott Smith @ cobrafiringsystems.com and he will be more than happy to walk you through it.
I use Apple products. I bought a PC to be able to use Cobra Show Creator and to do these firmware upgrades. You went through it so fast my head was spinning! I am not at all familiar with the normal workings of a PC. If you do a new video at half speed ( or quarter speed), that would be great. Directed toward people who don't know PC from P,B and J.Otherwise I'll just muddle through with 3.0.3 Thanks for taking the time to do this, in any case.
Definitely understandable Mguerramd. It can be hard to balance a single video for everyones proficiency levels. You can actually slow the video down by clicking on the gear icon and adjusting the "speed" setting. Scott and his crew are going to be releasing a software package that will allow much easier updates in the future and these technical processes will be obsolete making things much easier on everyone. Hi Tim, Thank you for the video. I updated 18M successfully but while updating 18R, i tried to upload 18R .spy file, the display went blank and all the buttons glowing white. i tried to start it in programming mode, but nothing's showing on the diplay.
After putting all of the other equipment back in the cases and out of the area we ran another scan and the audio box showed up in the list. Followed the rest of the directions and it worked. Thanks for the detailed instructions.
When I down load the Synapse Portal on my laptop and try to run it it says it does not see my wireless programmer and can not open the port 3 or 4. I'm running windows 7 is that the problem?

There is an archive of all the old Portal versions: forums.synapse-wireless.com/forum/synapse/software-releases-discussion/4210-latest-releases The second post on that you'll see "archive releases:" Maybe try uninstalling and reloading 2.7 or 2.6. If anything Scott would know 100% what version you'd need.
Hi, My 18R2 are on software ver. 2.1.0. I am unable to get P on my remote by pressing SYNC button. And when i press the SYNC + KEY ON i can see the R2 on portal>Network>Find Nodes>Scan i find the R2 but Network ID is showing 0X0000
Hi Avi, sorry you're having issues with the reprogramming. 2.1 is some very old firmware, and one I'm not completely familiar with. A 0x0000 hardware ID may be correct. I would suggest emailing ssmith@cobrafiringsystems.com and Scott will be able to clarify, without a doubt, how you should proceed.

Thanks for the video! After I flash the 18R2 and go the the USB section, when I turn it on it does not have the red LEDs chasing around. The lights just come on full red, and nothing happens.
Thank you for getting back to me so soon. I made sure that the cobra.s.19 is the only file on the USB, not in a folder. Still nothing... And i apologize, I edited my prior question. It comes on full red with no chasing. Now when I turn in the 18R2 it comes up with Er6, which on my paperwork and Cobra's website there is no definition for Error 6. I'll attempt to get a hold of Scott Smith unless you have any other ideas. I really appreciate it!
So Er6 is expected at this point. This is just letting you know the firmware of the radio isn't matching the processor. Which at this point it won't. Try another USB drive. Have you known the one you're using to be compatible with the remote before? It sounds like the remote isn't picking up the USB stick.
Tim you are my hero. Picked up another USB stick and it worked perfectly. However now that I changed the Network ID for the 18R2 it won't pick up any 18M I try to link to in order to upgrade those. Is there a setting to change it back. It also changes the Snap_Stick name in the Node View to 18R22. I was very careful to not flash the programmer, just makes me nervous if something weird happened. I appreciate all the help!
Cobra will def support you direct over the phone if need-be: 518-222-7410. I would, however, turn the R2 off and then back on, wait for it to fully boot; then hold that sync button until "P" is illuminated in that display. If your you're using the shortcut "hold sync + turn key" to get into "P" mode you'll fail to see the 18R2 in portal.
Well I followed your video and now regret it. I was able to upgrade eight 18M modules but the minute I tried to do the 18R2, I ended up with a brick.. Contacting Cobra Firing System was useless. I am now stuck with eight 18M and one 36M and a useless 18R2. Be very wary about upgrading. It should not be that hard to do but easier to brick the 18R than upgrading. Once you buy a version of a system DON NOT UPGRADE.. Play it safe and stay with that version.
As far as I can tell, I finally got it upgraded.. The memory stick I used over the years to program my script with, would not work for the upgrade. Picked up another stick and was able to finish the upgrade. Maybe you can do a video on what to watch for when programming or upgrading when it doesn't work. Give people an idea what to watch out for and how to fix it. You always see videos on how to do it when everything is great but not went it fails. Scott was a great help and all 9 modules and 18R2 are upgraded to 5.0.2.. Now just have to wait for the 4th...

What if you are trying to Connect to Port after clicking the scan button and nothing shows up? All I see in the drop down is Remote Connection...

Hello - upon scan system is not detecting Audio Box. Everything else worked as discussed in video.

+Diesel Fire Make sure that cobra.s19 is in the root of that USB stick you plug in. It can't be in another folder.
+Fireworks Show Also ensure you're holding sync when you turn it on. You should have red lights spinning not green.

I think i figured things out. after many attempts ( low battery ) i think i got it working. do you know how to tell what firmware is active on the AB?
Good question Cory. Very honestly, I'm unaware of any way visually with just the device. It's something I'll try to run down.
