      Thank you! Yeah there are a ton of ways to build your character and fleet, and ways to play the game, for sure!

    "guns are cheap, ships are not." is so quotable.

    I think you should use your discretion about what to read. You might consider leaving text up so we can pause the video if we want to read anything. Just a thought. Really enjoying this series and the Vintage Story one.👍

      Awesome, thanks for the feedback and the idea for pausing it for text that's not vital to the story!

    That first combat was intense! The wolf is one of my favorite early game ships.
    I appreciate you taking the time to talk through your thoughts with each of the stats. Oftentimes, navigating stats like that is one of the most daunting parts of a game like Starsector

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  Рік тому +2

      :D Yeah that was a tougher fight than I signed up for! Lol. The hammerhead with a steady pilot is kind of a pea-shooter!
      Thanks for letting me know you like the format and what I'm covering. I'm hoping to get into some more details with the stats, builds, and the WHY of the builds, but I don't want to overwhelm new players with an information fire hose. It's such a densely-packed game that you need to take your time learning it, or as I did, learn from others! ;)

    Thankyou so much for breaking down the ship fitting section so clearly. Many guides just say 'click autofit', which is fine and all, but your explanation was great. Enjoying the series so far!

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey thanks for telling me! I'm glad you found my explanation helpful. I (and most of the Starsector community) don't like autofit, and some people call it something else that rhymes. It works okay-ish if you have all the fit's weapons in your inventory or at the market you're docked at, but a custom fit is always better!

      @@Kurazarrh Ah OK, makes sense. I guess it all comes with experience as to what works and doesn't. Definitely look at going beyond auto-fit then! Cheers again

      @@BugPowderDust just 2 tips. Start it by stripping your new ship.
      and buy the weapons on the markets, not on the ship refit screen.
      these make it easier for me.

    i've only recently discovered your channel, and have been enjoying the vintage story and (now!) starsector vid guides you've been putting out! :)
    when it comes to text, I'm fine with whatever you prefer to read aloud, but it would be nice if you would pause for a bit on text you don't intend to read
    it's all new to me, so i enjoy reading all of it, and it does get difficult to keep backing the video up just to find the best moment to pause and catch the split second it shows up on screen. whether it's to say, "pause to read this" every time or however you'd prefer to give notice you're skipping a pop-up or section of text, that's my personal preference on this 👍
    in any case, don't stress too much about it. the videos are fun either way. thanks for introducing me to two cool games! :D

      Hey, first off, welcome to the channel n I'm glad you're enjoying my videos! And thank you for the feedback on whether 'tis nobler to read or not to read! I like the idea of keeping everyone know to pause the video. I might forget here and there but I'll try to keep it in mind!

    In terms of the on-screen reading, it would be nice for dialogue that is either one-time, story-related (if you choose to interact with the story), or if it isn't seen very often. If you dedicated an episode to hunting down pirates or other similar fleets, I doubt that you would want to spend too much time reading out vaguely-similar lines from non-unique fleets, especially if you end up fighting quite a few of them in a row. Dialogue with events in the dockside bars, or when talking to specific NPCs through the comm directory may, however, be something you might want to do on-screen reading for, if you're feeling up for it at the time.
    In terms of the AI in combat I have noticed that the AI tend to not be the best with missiles, rockets, and torpedoes that don't have any form of tracking. They'll use them, but not very often and typically only on large targets as smaller targets are very difficult for them to hit. Keeping that in mind however, there are occasions where the AI will surprise you and be far more effective than you might otherwise expect them to be with the tools you've given them.
    I noticed that you caught yourself out while discussing S-mods, and made annotations on the screen to explain what you forgot to talk about. It's perfectly fine to make mistakes or miss parts of an explanation while making your guide series - especially when you're early in a playthrough, and don't have many mods beyond the default ones the game gives you to start with to use as examples to assist in your descriptions of how the systems work.
    This is a great second episode, you're covering gameplay mechanics as they become relevant, and not overwhelming viewers with a bunch of information that they don't have the context to understand yet. Your 'Guide' series are excellent like this, and I enjoy seeing this format carried over to Starsector, as it's definitely a game that benefits from this format.

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  Рік тому +1

      Thank you, for the feedback and the insightful comment! I've definitely been leaning toward reading the important dialogue and skipping the repetitive or irrelevant parts, so I'm glad to see people of like mind (another commenter expressed a similar preference). I'm also glad to hear the guide style is working out! Starsector is super dense from an information perspective so I'm trying to avoid a big, boring info-dump!

  • @SenjaiYT
    @SenjaiYT Рік тому +1

    For these large ships set the avoid order on them and ignore them. They’re slow, save them for last. Combat tutorial touches on this

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, I'll use that order if I really feel threatened, though it doesn't work well if the smaller ships insist on escorting the larger ones--in that case, you can end up running down your PPT without ever firing a shot!

    • @SenjaiYT
      @SenjaiYT Рік тому +1

      @@Kurazarrh Yeah I saw you use it in later episodes. I haven't been running escort commands just yet I've mostly been using the macro commands though I'll try them out more deliberately now. It makes sense

  • @ham8426
    @ham8426 Рік тому +2

    Reapers are mixed value, the AI tends to waste them or not fire them at all. When they do hit its big though.
    You also have to be careful with commands, giving escort commands has a tendency to make the AI a bit dumber cause they're trying to keep up with their escort target more than they're trying to contribute to combat.

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  Рік тому +1

      Yeah in my other playthrough I have a Pirate Falcon, and when that thing gets into combat, the very first thing it does when on AI control is fire its cyclone reapers and miss with both of them. >.<
      As far as escort commands go, I find that it works best when you have ships of similar speed (if they're both fast), or where the escorts are significantly faster than their target. But you're right, if you have a slow ship escort a faster ship, or even another slow ship, it tends to just spin its wheels.

    Is the money really called quid?

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  Рік тому +1

      In-game? No, they're called credits. But if you're not familiar with the idiom "quid pro quo," it means "something for something," or "a favor for a favor." Money IRL is sometimes called quid.
