Unpopular Opinion: I liked the ending. It was obvious that they can't be in the same world because it will tear the whole fabric of reality. And if it just went back to normal, it would not give justice to Lela wanting to live her own life and it will also render the whole plot pointless if it just went back the way it was. I think that it's a good ending where Lela was able to live her life the way she wants and it leaves an open ending of Mack and Brady's Relationship, but we know that they're going to be together but it's just a little different.
I think that it's a proper ending for a time travelling movie where the present time is no longer the same as before. And if it will just go back to normal like their memory is still there, it will just have the same plot as the first one.

Wet Side Story is great, but no doubt Lela, Queen of the Beach leaves the surfers and bikers happier considering they relive that movie endlessly over and over and the movie is just about vibing through Summer with your friends.

For all those who are dissatisfied with the ending of the movie:
If you notice, at the end of "That's how we do" when Mack and Brady introduce themselves again, Leela winks at Mack from the screen 5:21. Seconds later, Mack and Brady look at each other 5:27, laugh, and hug each other 5:35, ending up very close to each other (even Brady carries Mack 5:43). It would be strange to behave like this with a person they were just meeting, which would mean that at that moment they already remembered each other again.
It's just a matter of paying careful attention to the scene. They did not forget what they lived through.

At first, I used to have some issues with the ending. But now that I grew up...I don't think it's that bad anymore. It actually makes a lot of sense and still has its set of happiness.

The reason the ending is so confusing is because earlier in the Mack tells Lelia she can the change the movie. So Lela follows her instructions and changes the movie but the thing is the original movie is how Mack and Brady met so Mack and Brady forget each other, the ending was them meeting but in reverse and also Lela winking is telling her telling the audience she followed Mack’s instructions

It’s been 8 years and this hits so hard. I was 16 when it came out and I was so amped to see it and it was the best. These days were when Disney was at its best and it actually made great songs and had incredible actors. Kids today will never understand what it was like. Good times! 😊

I used to listen to this soundtrack ALL THE TIME!!! So when this song came up when I was watching it recently, I started to remember it, as I had not watched the movie in a long time! This brought back

My theory is:
Mack inspired Lela to change, she didn't want to live in the movie, that way. Because Mack's bracelet came to Lela, it was like magic (Like Mack's surfboard from the first movie), and she probably made a wish to be the main role, it changed everything in both worlds, where Mack and Brady never met, but has that déjà vu vibe, that feeling you get when you've seen that person before, like the tip of your tongue expression. But because they already had chemistry/connection it brought them together again, and if there's a third movie they'll probably eventually remember each other, all over again. And maybe see Lela and Tanner again.
It made more sense in my head. :)

Kandykoka kola but why? Brady and Mack would have break up for sure due to have so different lifestyles ans Lela would return to her sexist home where woman cant do anything. With this ending Lela could create her own destiny without being only part of a written movie. She was also a feminist inspiration for young Mack which made her more enthusiastic about musicals. She hated them in part one. So Mack grew up with an iconic hero who inspired her. Due to this she could connect being herself with music and fun. In this way she and Brady will have a way more healthy relationship

okay now i understand the whole point of the ending. they met at the beginning of the summer because wet side story was brady’s favorite movie and he and mack met because he showed it to her. lela and tanner DID make it back to where they’re supposed to be but when they got back lela changed the movie to be lela queen of the beach, and brady wasn’t a big fan of it but mack was so she shows it to brady. they meet the same way no matter what but it’s just that their roles were reversed based on which movie it was. sorry if that was confusing because tbh idk how to explain things well but oh well🤷🏼♀️😂

My theory is that Lela, as she says in the song “it’s a different story cuz I changed the end I make my own destiny,” she changed things in the movie therefore the whole story changed therefore Mack and Brady never met. If Lela wouldn’t have changed the story they would have still remembered each other but Lela would have been miserable, but bet even thought M and B don’t remember there adventures together they will probably still end up together you can definitely tell after because they’re flirting with each other and stuff

If people are still confused on how Brady and Mack lost their memory, here is an explanation: Mack and brady met each other watching West Side Story. After Lela was about to leave Mack’s and Brady’s world, Mack told Lela to change the movie and make it her movie. Lela decided to change the movie and it was called The Queen of the Beach. But now since West Side Story never existed that means Mack and Brady’s relationship never was a thing. Then they lost their memory.

My younger self was so triggered because of the ending to this movie. Like, for months after, I would randomly think of the movie and I'd just get in the worst mood you could possibly imagine.

I personally loved the movie. I understand why people didn't like it 'cause basically it shows that the first movie never even happened but I think that's cool. It's different and certainly paved the way for a third movie, which clearly they didn' do.

I understand why they made Brady and Mack forget each other now. It's because if they make a teen beach 3 it can basically be just like the first movie but instead of them getting stuck in wet side story they'll get stuck in Lela queen of the beach and instead of Mack and Brady being separated because Mack's going away to prep school it'll be because she's going away to college. So her and Brady will break up because they don't think that they'll be able to handle a long distance relationship but somehow when their stuck in Lela queen of the beach their previous memories of each other are restored, like maybe Lela and Tanner and the bikers and surfers try to find a way to get Mack and Brady's previous memories of each other back and then they finally do and when this happens Mack and Brady will realize that their feelings for each other are stronger than any distance and they'll get back together. And it'll be all rainbows and sunshine and cheesy songs. The only thing I don't know is how they'll get stuck in the movie again.

For anyone who is confused, when Mack and Brady helped Layla and Tanner get back, they did make it but, because of the advice that Mack gave Layla, which was to create her own future, Layla completely changed the movie when she got back. Because of this Brady was never interested in the movie like he was with the original and therefore never met Mack since that movie was tied to how they met. Brady then went with his skater friend to this beach where they were playing Layla queen of the beach (the new movie Layla created). Mack worked there to sell tickets and start the movie. She sells tickets to Brady I believe, and he starts watching the movie when suddenly they all break into dance. Mack persuaded him to join in and he also starts dancing. At the end of the song in the movie, Brady and Mack end up in each others arms and re-introduce themselves.
The rest is up to your imagination since there was never a teen beach 3 but I hope this helped! The ending wasn’t exactly great but I’m glad we got something!

For everyone confused,
Lela made it back with Tanner, changed the movie and took Mack's advise. Therefore, affecting Mack and Brady meeting. Mack then took on Brady's personality cause it was reversed. Realize how Mack said the same things Brady said when they met.
My theory:
I feel like only Mack remembers (towards the end when Lela winks showing the bracelet) cause she made a face then hugged Brady and smiled. I feel like Mack remembers cause its just like how remember Lela was standing outside staring at the water and Tanner was trying to see what Lela was seeing? He didn't know what Lela did. Its just like how Brady turned around and didn't know what Mack was staring at. It makes me wonder...

At first I was confused, but when Brady said, "Really?" and Mack said, "Hey, sometimes you just have to randomly break into song, right?" and Brady laughed, I think they were talking about the first movie. I think they sort of remember but at the same time don't. Like, to them it feels like it did happen in a dream or something--if that makes any sense. Anyway, it's just a theory.

I know a lot of people didn't like the ending to this movie and at first I didn't too, but then when I thought more about it, I really liked it. First of all, it wasn't the cliche, expected ending where Lela and Tanner make it back and they all live happily ever after. It was a HUGE twist, especially for a Disney movie. Second, this ending opens the door for a possible 3rd installment, which would be great. And finally, even though Lela changed the movie, I still think Mack remembered what happened because she saw Lela wink at her and she saw that she was wearing the bracelet she was handing out for the dance. Overall, I'm proud of Disney doing the unexpected and taking a risk, even though I think most people don't appreciate or understand it.
However, I was upset about one thing. Apparently, Maia and Ross did an unscripted kiss after this song, but it didn't make it into the movie. I think they should have put the kiss in because it would have gave fans hope that they had an instant connection and would end up together. Plus, there was no kiss in the first movie, and I was really hoping for one this time around. Oh well, maybe if they make a 3rd one, they actually leave the kiss in.
I am currently crossing my fingers for a 3rd installment! It would be the best Disney movie series in history! :-)

I understand the whole Mack and Brady not meeting because Wet Side Story doesn't exist anymore. But confused because if the original movie is gone, why didn't Mack leave with her aunt like she was supposed to in the first movie? She shouldn't be at the beach but in that prep school!...?

I think it's because since Mack was the one to watch the movie, she gained a love for surfing and the beach even greater than what she had in the first film and that led her to want to stay.
