You should've added a video on the old "original" technique as well. Swedish world-class cross-country skier Gunde Svan used this long pole technique (a single wooden pole about 2 meters in length) just to mess with FIS because he disliked their moronic regulations. It was so overpowered that the Norwegians managed to get it banned within three hours of finding out.

No, you are definently meant to lift the back of the ski. It's a natural consquence of correct balance and weight transfer. I advice you to look at any professional performing tha classic technique
@@sebatr0509 thanks. It just looks goofy, as a new Nordic skier. the back ski lift comes naturally from having your weight far enough forward on the other foot?
@@llewodcm20 yes! Its almost impossible not to lift the back of the skies when diagonal striding. Look at Iivo Niskanen, one of the best in the world at diagonal stride, he lifts the back of the skies very high!
I should have watched this video before the Rust Buster! Ha, ha! Thanks for the paced, clear information.
Was not expecting the voice of @minutephysics to pop up here!
haha, for real, that confused the hell out of my brain for a second
Great instructional video - thanks!

Are you really supposed to lift your back ski like that in a stride? I thought you glide on both?
