Little late but black/hot wire should be on gold screw…….and white neutral on silver

You didn’t splice the wires, so it isn’t actually a junction box. You can remove the box and cover it.
Understood. It was too difficult to remove the box. Whoever installed it, made sure it wasn’t coming out. Lol. Thanks for the comment
