That secondary gun is a 45mm, from what I can find whilst researching. Makes you wonder, since the KV-4 was only a speculated tank, with designers being told to make an "invincible" tank, designated Obj. 224, they came up with the KV-4 and over 20 other designs. They were told not to make a permanent design until the need for such a tank arose. Could the KV-5 and 'mythological' KV-6 (a tank with 8 turrets, one being a double-barreled 152mm, an another being a Katyusha. It is believed to be a hoax, only a model made by a mad modeler with ample turrets and time) be other designs of the Object 224?
That Stuart was a BAWS ! :) Well played to him ! I am going for the KV-4 myself, played it on the test server - really awesome armor. I just wish the gun had a bit more punch (alpha). I have it unlocked, currently gathering credits and ramping up my KV-3 crew ready for the transfer once I get it.
***** Its all about angling and sidescraping with the KV-4, but it's fairly useful as a "sniper" with the top gun, and finding a rock to sidescrape behind while you are sniping? priceless.
***** " i get 2 shots from a RHM, and im dead.. nowhere to hide no one to support me." I don't see how that is the KV-4's fault. If you get caught in the open by yourself, i'm pretty sure it's your own fault lol. Like kalasnikoch said, KV-4 is all about angling and sidescraping. It's almost invincible when sidescraping, and it's also great at close range brawling against other heavies. I never lose a fight against any other tier 8 heavies (when I got the top gun, turret, and engine, of course).
***** Dude, you were objecting to my original comment and implying that KV-4 is bad (since you would rather play a derper instead). So the arguments that you put forth will be considered as supporting argument toward the disadvantage of the KV-4 by the readers. It's not my reading problem, it's your writing that's at fault. Make your intention clearer.
I'm on my second day with the KV4 and the first day was very painful. The real grind was getting the upgraded gun and I had a bout of 'tank rage' at one stage. Its slow, I'm always playing catch up and missing all the action, or taking a short cut and getting caught in the open. T9 and T10 have a field day but they are not shy about using premium ammo either. I am chugging away at the upgraded engine and then only the turret to go. I don't think I am going to enjoy this tank and know my IS6 and KV5 serve me very well at T8. I see it simply as a stepping stone to the ST1 but 166,000 XP will give me plenty of time with this tank. I'll be spending gold and using free XP to speed the process up. It catches fire quite a lot of the time as well.
Thanks for the review QB. I'm grinding this tank myself (engine is the last thing I need and I'm close) and I'm not very good at driving it. I've been thinking of it as a KV-5 with fewer weak spots and a better gun. I've since learned (from this video and my experience in battle) that poor angling can quickly lead to death in this tank; and even with 223 pen, you still have to aim. Stabilizer helps with this, but don't expect it to hit shots on the move unless you're within 50m.
I really enjoy this tank. I have it all researched and am grinding my way through to the ST1. But I do enjoy the the vids from both you and Jingles. Keep up the good work.
BTW, one of the best assets to playing the KV-4 is sidescraping- it allows you to present the thick sides at a really sharp angle and you can get in and out of cover very quickly with relatively little reticule dispersion. At 30 degrees, that's 263 effective armour- at 25 degrees it's 300. Not to mention the tracks adding an extra 20mm.
IS-4 used to be the Tier 9 heavy in that tech line. When the ST-I was added the IS-4 was bumped up to Tier 10, and those who already had it got to keep it.
Wot takes a couple of things into consideration when it comes to ramming such as, the thickness of the armor that makes contact, speed of both tanks, and weight. So it was Quickies side armor not moving with his insane weight to that M5 going 50 with his front. If you happened to ram a moving AT-2 in the front you would do nothing in a 3a.
I just picked up a KV-4 on Thursday. Hope to run it for the first time today, since I wasn't able to play last night. It's my first tier 8, so we'll see how I do. Lots of SU-122-44 and TOG matches (plus a few grinds) to get the cash for it. I was determined not to get distracted by sales on other tanks this time. :)
There are two mistakes in this video: First saying that the KV-4 has an awesome front - Actually only the upper part of the hull has 180mm with even two weaksports on it, the drivers viewport and the maschinegun, both at 120mm armor. The Lower plate has only 160mm and the angled part between has 120mm. (The riveted part at the front edge holding the 120 and 160mm together is also 180mm though.) Given the fact that the angle on the front is mostly poor, every canon with 200mm+ pen (so even most T7 tanks) can penetrate the front of a KV-4 reliably if it's not angled. Therefore I recomend to angle this tank at 40-45° if possible, since the side has good armor, nearly as good as the front. Second mistake is saying to go for the "weak turret" - the turret was a weakspot long ago, only short after release and they pretty fast patched that. Now the turret on top as seen fromt the front has the same armor as the turret front! Fully armored with 180mm! Yes, even those sloped sides. Best choise if a KV-4 driver is pointing his turret at you and you can't shoot the hull is to shot below the gunmantlet, since there is a part with 0° angle.
Thanks for the review, a very good tank when used correctly, I did the grind up through to the IS-4, the ST-I actually being one of my favourite tanks still.
KV-4 is a fun tank, real assault heavy, trudge through the line ideal team will cover ya and keep moving. Top gun not the mega whap of the 122 but its very serviceable very nice pen value. If ya enjoy the KV-5 for sure will enjoy this tank especially with no R2D2 weak spot.
Very cool tank. If anybody is watching this video wondering if they will be disappointed with this tank, i really don't think you will be. It is not as slow as it seems either, it is responsive, although obviously not quick in any way.
Just finished combat with AMX 50 100 and I fought against KV-4 in one part of the battle. I shot 3 shells in its upper turret and none of them penetrated (note that AMX 50 100 has gun with excellent penetration for T8 tank). Not reliable weakspot at all.
Absolutely true. The front of it is rounded and the sides are angled. If you don't hit it square, it's likely to bounce as it's still 180mm of armor up there. Most people see it and think weakspot, but it really isn't. The weakspots are the drivers viewport and the machine gun port in the front, just like the KV-1. The lower glacis is also 180mm so it's not weak unless it's facing directly at you.
I do remember watching that. :) Guess the reason I asked was the lack of the top engine and turret in this particular game - on some occasions such things can make the difference between surviving or not.
Ive been playing this tank stock for now and my impression is very strong side armor it can easy bounce 250pen at big angles, and bounce 300-350 at lower angles. I have yet to see the upgraded gun and turret, BUT this tank has fairly weak front armor. Good players shoot at it instead the open side, a 225+ pen gun should be able to penetrate at the straight plate almost all the time. The other weakness is that KV4 is very easy to light on fire. im impressed and dissapointed with kv4 at same time
It's a really nice tank, I'm enjoying it even with the IS's gun, which is strange! I can get loads of bounces, just by angling it properly, this is really nice! I would suggest it to anyone who likes slow, heavy armored precise tanks, it can easily lead a (slow) charge if it's top tier
Awesome QB ! I loved that Stuart lol. I would like to ask if you have any plans to review the IS-2? Or perhaps the 110? I am currently grinding down the Chinese heavy line and am at the IS-2. I would really like to have your input on these tanks. :-)
i own kv-4 for 480 rounds and fully upgraded . have to tell IS line is better . as they got more front Armour - bounce more shots - faster - low profile -and slight better gun
I quite like Jingles' reviews, but they get a bit long and subjective after a while. Yours are very objective, to the point and an easy length to watch...Even though I have the tank, I still like to watch the review just to see what you say, and they are interesting enough to do that. Nice work QB.
I can't even pen this thing head on with the Löwe except for one spot, that's the side of the gun mantlet. The small turret on top is not even worth trying to pen, you'll never get through.
There used to only be 1 russian heavy line, the IS4 was the T9 and and the IS7 was the T10, when they made a new russian line they moved the IS4 to the new T10, and anyone who previously owned it got it free as the next t10
The wiki recommends getting the 107mm gun first, over upgrading suspension and turret. However, I get the feeling that the turret might be a better idea due to extra armour. If not that, then the suspsension for 2 degrees traverse extra. Any thoughts?
definitely definitely not, the stock 122 really lacks the penetration to be effective against tier 8 and above. Trust me, I've just got the engine left to get. I'm glad I went to the gun first.
Ok, I've already unlocked the gun now, got it first, now grinding the other stuff. thats for the reply anyways, after using it I have to agree with you
I recently got my KV-4 and so far the armor is good but the ease of which my turret is penned in the top is crazy but without that 107 I don't think the tank is super great but other than that its a good tank and maybe you can show me how to play it sometime.
QB, what are your thoughts on the new turret? I personally get penned there all the time, I have wondered if the stock turret using the best gun would be an option?
While this might not be possible due to time constraints, in future videos could you perhaps show us 2 games of the tank being reviewed? That is, 1 game totally stock and 1 game fully upgraded - to better illustrate the differences?
when i first elited the kv-1, i wanted to go for the kv-4 line.. but then i went for the IS.. now my elited IS move like a med tank.. i can circle other heavy tanks in city map. ^.^
2nd turret at the top is not a weakspot at all. it has as much armor as the front of your turret at 180mm thick. my crew perks are as follows Commander : recon! see them before they see me..they get shot. Driver: Off road king and clutch braking. bad traverse speed and bad performance on soft ground gets better with these 2. Radio man: Signal Boosting. again poor veiw range so..again see them before they see me at a distance. all others get repairs and brothers in arms to keep tracks up and maximize those skills. coming soon is 6th sense on the commander
That 1' high band across the front of the hull with the viewport/machine gun ports in it, is that a weak area? I swear I've pen'd straight through that with decent penetration guns before?
@QukyBabyTV I think the upgraded turret's secondary tumor/turret has a gun mantlet with the same armor as the front of the turret, is this confirmed? I've personally seen type 59s and similiar caliber guns aim at this tumor at moderate range and still were unable to pen it.
No, its not. Even more so, tier 8 guns are your lowest matchup so anything above pens you almost every time. The trick with kv4 is to hide your frontal armor and sidescrape. This was not showed on QB video since from what i see, he plays aggressively and most time he do not have time to stop and play sidescrape game. But it IS the way to go with kv4. Sidescrape can give you EA of sides way above t9 and t10 guns except when they shoot prem, even not on perfect angle
i was wondering if you could do a video of the churchill GC. would be nice as you dont really see to many ppl playing them. i'd be intersted to see how you use it
I like this tank but I really feel that WG should increase the armor up to 200+ because new t8 tanks have over 200+ armor which is OP when top tier and this tank only shines when it's top tier and sidescrape dosen't work cause when you try to take a shot they will just shoot at the cupola... It's pretty troll overall but only works against lower tiers and noobs
11:40 the Stewart fires an HE shell at QB. So I guess he just did it again a split second before running into him and set him on fire. No way it would have done ramming damage to a KV-4.
actually kv-2 is no fun 2 play anymore, since they nerved HE-shells in 8.x Before you constantly deal >400 dmg for a non pen hit, which was enough to one shot tier 5 meds. but thats not anymore, so 15cm howitzer is somewhat obsolete due to horrible reload time. I personally l only can recommend second heavy heavy line. t-150 is quite fun to play and kv-3 is a monster
That secondary gun is a 45mm, from what I can find whilst researching.

45mm 20k cannon. :)
Found in a lot of the early war soviet tanks such as the BT-5/7, T-26, etc.
kv-4 is my favorite tier 8 heavy
I know that feel.
Tristan Lane i just really like it it's big and heavy ideal
dumb video making
KV-4 is an absolute beast! the only problem i have with it is the terrible 6 degree gun depression.

I have the 110 and the WZ 111 1-4 with 3 degrees of gun depression! I'd love to have that 6 degrees of gun depression!
I don't see how I have been trying for months to play the kv4 and can't do any damage to anyone and get destroyed very easily.
My most favourite tank. I feel proud af when I take it to battle field. 4000/5000 damage blocking is pretty easy

Giving up is not in that stuart's dictionary!
Its an American tank of course it doesn't give up.
coolduck45
Except that is a Chinese stuart
qwerty5000 it is the upgeeaded m5 version but the chaffee replaced it so they sold it to the chineses
That Stuart was a pro
Kamikaze medal for the M4 Stuart!
+Peter Seagrave No such thing as a M4 Stuart
+Henry Pruski Oh yeah... it was an m5 wasn't it?
Peter Seagrave
Yes
+Peter Seagrave Well actually M5a1 but yeah. lol
the calibre of the mini turret is 45 MM 20 kl

Awesome review, I have researched the KV4 and I am waiting for a discount to buy it and I can't wait to play it :)
wait a sec T-28 with tier 8 kv-4 say what the old match making was so brutal like no mercy :O
It was the stuart (light tanks back then) that had the brutal matchmaking. T28 platooned up with him. I did that many times back then too :D
IS-4 used to be the Tier 9 heavy in that tech line. When the ST-I was added the IS-4 was bumped up to Tier 10, and those who already had it got to keep it.
By the way, if you are shooting at the side of a KV-4's turret, aim for that back plate (the side is made of two plates).
As far as i remember the considered type of canon for the second gun emplacement on top of the turret was a 45 mm 20-K

It's the 45 mm known from MS-1 in the small turret.
Very cool tank. If anybody is watching this video wondering if they will be disappointed with this tank, i really don't think you will be. It is not as slow as it seems either, it is responsive, although obviously not quick in any way.
Once fully upgraded each tank in line to the KV-4 is pretty good and has more or less the same playstyle. The ST-I is the real badass in that line!
That is an awesome ending! He got a nice kamikaze-medal.
Remember, thanks to his ramming you got the crutial contribution!
That christmas update brings back memories. Good times
Yes, if the turret is bigger and/or better. More space and more comfortable turrets give the crew a better time, therefore increasing ROF.

You forget to mention, that turret is very weak under gun mantlet. I was able to pen it with Pershing six times out of eight from 100 metres.
The secondary gun is (was supposed to be) a 45mm 20K (same as on T-26). A private pew-pew for the commander! :)
Gun on the turret is a 45mm gun. Like on the bt-2/7
Quickybaby, how do you recommend playing this tank when I'm stuck with the 122mm? Would you recommend playing it differently?
I do remember watching that. :) Guess the reason I asked was the lack of the top engine and turret in this particular game - on some occasions such things can make the difference between surviving or not.
I had lost interest in this line when I got to the Kv3... now I remember why I started this line that Steel Beast!
I can get loads of bounces, just by angling it properly, this is really nice!
I would suggest it to anyone who likes slow, heavy armored precise tanks, it can easily lead a (slow) charge if it's top tier
IS-4 used to be a tier 9 and Quicky had it. Then they added the other heavy line and ST-I, which leads to IS-4.
I only brought this tank a while ago I have the upgraded turret now.
Awesome QB ! I loved that Stuart lol. I would like to ask if you have any plans to review the IS-2? Or perhaps the 110? I am currently grinding down the Chinese heavy line and am at the IS-2. I would really like to have your input on these tanks. :-)
i own kv-4 for 480 rounds and fully upgraded . have to tell IS line is better . as they got more front Armour - bounce more shots - faster - low profile -and slight better gun
mini turrent is 180 mm at front and 150 back and sides

Nice work QB.
driving a stock kv-4 is a long nightmare that never seems to stop!!
1 mistake the mini gun on the turret is not that weak as you claim check wot wiki it says it has the same armor as the "flat turret face"
I just got like 10.000 potential damage received using KV - 4 yesterday, It's quite a badass tank
I can't even pen this thing head on with the Löwe except for one spot, that's the side of the gun mantlet. The small turret on top is not even worth trying to pen, you'll never get through.
Major props for the stwart. Balls of steel
There used to only be 1 russian heavy line, the IS4 was the T9 and and the IS7 was the T10, when they made a new russian line they moved the IS4 to the new T10, and anyone who previously owned it got it free as the next t10
Kudos to the Stuart, that's one to tell the gran-kids.
can you re-look at this tank qb? I struggle crazy hard with this tank when I meet it.
Ok, I've already unlocked the gun now, got it first, now grinding the other stuff.
thats for the reply anyways, after using it I have to agree with you
This stuart deserves a special medal! ;) He is what - tier4 or 5? And ramms a 100 ton tier 8 KV-4 to death.
A true hero. :)
MINI TURRET LOOKS LIKE A T 26 THAT WAS A BIT STRETCHED I THINK THE CALIBER IS 45 MM sorry caps THIS IS THE NON STOCK TURRET
I recently got my KV-4 and so far the armor is good but the ease of which my turret is penned in the top is crazy but without that 107 I don't think the tank is super great but other than that its a good tank and maybe you can show me how to play it sometime.
That Löwe in the end when the M5A1 ram u, he most thinking, wtf......how... lol
He had the IS-4 from when it was the Tier IX before the Soviet tree split into two heavy branches.
I'm learning to play with this tank is tricky and fun.
QB, what are your thoughts on the new turret? I personally get penned there all the time, I have wondered if the stock turret using the best gun would be an option?
Gun on second turret is 45 mm 20-K.
While this might not be possible due to time constraints, in future videos could you perhaps show us 2 games of the tank being reviewed? That is, 1 game totally stock and 1 game fully upgraded - to better illustrate the differences?
It was the Explosion from the Stuart! :)
Upgraded turret gives nothing but 50hp more and really SLIGHTLY higher rate of fire. But it also gives a HUGE weakspot.
It was his rear, (he was shooting at our arty) I guess that must be really thick too.
The Stuart did the only thing he could do to take down one of the opponents tanks... well done for him as well... Banzai!!!!
when i first elited the kv-1, i wanted to go for the kv-4 line.. but then i went for the IS.. now my elited IS move like a med tank.. i can circle other heavy tanks in city map. ^.^
Is 4 used to be tier 9 instead of is 8. If you had it during the russian tree rework (was around 7.4 update), you got both.
Even in my E75 i always aim for that small gun turret since penning a KV 4 can be a pain from the front otherwise.
Radio man: Signal Boosting. again poor veiw range so..again see them before they see me at a distance. all others get repairs and brothers in arms to keep tracks up and maximize those skills. coming soon is 6th sense on the commander
really surprising death. once i tried to ram a maus on 10hp to death as t-50-2. i drove into its rear with full 72 km/h and well yeah i bounced of.
The gun in the second turret is a 45mm 20-K gun
That 1' high band across the front of the hull with the viewport/machine gun ports in it, is that a weak area? I swear I've pen'd straight through that with decent penetration guns before?
the turret on top of the turret probably has the 45mm 20k gun. it probably was used to fend against infantry.
Top turret on the kv-4 is a 45mm cannon, since Russians never really used 37mm on their tanks.
Should i get KV-4, but then i would have get KV-1 again, is KV-4 worth it?
The small turret is also 180 mm thick so don't aim for it either just out manoeuvre it
@QukyBabyTV I think the upgraded turret's secondary tumor/turret has a gun mantlet with the same armor as the front of the turret, is this confirmed? I've personally seen type 59s and similiar caliber guns aim at this tumor at moderate range and still were unable to pen it.
You don't get how he could, did you check how low your healthbar, at the end of the match?
I look forward to your video everyday QB.
Can you do a FULL review of the kv-4 then with the 1200HP and the upgraded turret?
:P
Mr. iWoox, the M5A1 Stuart, my respect to you!
Your reviews are epic!
if you side scrape your armor is much more effective
No, its not. Even more so, tier 8 guns are your lowest matchup so anything above pens you almost every time. The trick with kv4 is to hide your frontal armor and sidescrape. This was not showed on QB video since from what i see, he plays aggressively and most time he do not have time to stop and play sidescrape game. But it IS the way to go with kv4. Sidescrape can give you EA of sides way above t9 and t10 guns except when they shoot prem, even not on perfect angle
i was wondering if you could do a video of the churchill GC. would be nice as you dont really see to many ppl playing them. i'd be intersted to see how you use it
I know i have KV1 and i had KV1S and now i have IS and im getting KV2 from that to T-150 and the KV3 and so on
i have free xp alot of it should i get the AMX 50 100 or the kv-4? plz help me out
Depends on your playstyle
Kv-4 is better (my opinion) if you do like more heavyweight heavys, then kv-4. If you like faster and shellspraying tanks, then amx.
The KV1 is epic, if you didnt like it, ddont go down the IS4 line, since it is not your playstyle.
M3 Stuart went in like a torpedo and sank you xD!
"Looks like that one went right trought" "That's gotta hurt" I miss these so much why WG did delete them from the game :(
The IS-4 use to be a tier 9, then it was bumped to a tier 10 and the KV-4, ST-I and the IS-8 was put in
KV-4 is the best tank i've ever played, pretty troll at side scraping too.
This tank is a heavy tank in every sense of the word.It is also a battleship in every sense of the word.
11:40 the Stewart fires an HE shell at QB.
So I guess he just did it again a split second before running into him and set him on fire.
No way it would have done ramming damage to a KV-4.
Bad guess. It clearly states at the bottom of the screen that "Destroyed by a collision with...".
actually kv-2 is no fun 2 play anymore, since they nerved HE-shells in 8.x Before you constantly deal >400 dmg for a non pen hit, which was enough to one shot tier 5 meds. but thats not anymore, so 15cm howitzer is somewhat obsolete due to horrible reload time.
I personally l only can recommend second heavy heavy line. t-150 is quite fun to play and kv-3 is a monster
This thing is ARMOURED!
