Its not that pistol builds are unviable, its that nothing beats the dps for stealth commando and heavy gunner on bosses. But for regular missions pistols will do the job.
pistol builds CAN be decent but with the pistol he was using along with the build he was running, it wasn't really optimised for bosses, if he was running something like a gauss pistol or a crusader pistol, he could probably output more damage but i do agree, relative to other builds, pistol builds aren't necessarily all that great
@wiggle_plays how come u don't use that luck perk that decreases negative effects on mutations? I might do same lately been struggling on my luck build ..I think your luck build might be best for me too ...
I have so much trouble convincing other players to try the 10mm pistol - seriously, its not as bad as you think! And personally, I just love the "feel" of it - the sounds of firing and reloading are just so cool!
This always amazes me when you kill Earle with weapons a lot considers trash end game. I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to fight him solo since I don't use custom worlds. The extra people seem to trigger more Wendigos so we always get swarmed or he glitches out.
I do the Earle vids on a private server rather than custom. I only use custom when it involves spending resources that I don't want to spend for the sake of testing........like perk coins or legendary modules. I actually prefer Colossal Problem as a solo event. I find it relaxing.
You do have more options than 10mm and pipe pistol for auto build. Auto gamma gun, plasma pistol, enclave plasma pistol, laser pistol, ultracite laser. Quad ffr auto gamma pistol is fun to use and not many use it.
I am obligated to say yes, it is weak due to how much burden you must carry for ammunition and weight. Also, this weapon is mostly useful for human or fun pvp.
i just switched back to a gunslinger build for the first time since literal week one of '76 and honestly its so much fun. going from PA heavy weapon doom-tank , full Brotherhood Paladin style to chinese scout armour and only using Gamma gun, Alien blaster, plasma pistol flamer and a 10mm with the gold paint is such a different experience. im a light player, i get on 76 at the weekends most weeks and bimble around the wasteland doing whatever i feel like, and yeah, pistols and sneaking is an interesting different challenge. of course i never get any of the top tier weapons because casual gamers dont have the rng to pull them, but im happy with making a bunch of decent 2 stars. i actually really like that top tier builds are not really needed unless you are trying to push into soloing bosses in seconds. you can basically just pick a weapon you like and run around the wasteland like a loony having fun.
Love pistols, bloodied on top of that. Crusaders and 10mm , they are alot of fun.. I have aa with explosive breaks 50 less 2shot explosive breaks 50 less for my auto pistols Crusader bloodied cryo with 25 ff Crusader Vampires explosive 25 ff for pistols So much fun
I have a character that uses a Q FFR 10mm.. He's a commando but it's a lot of fun running around shredding enemies with it and the ammo is super cheap...
Would it not have made more sense to run max rank covert operative and take the hit on not maxing one of the guerilla perks? Maths makes me think that's a bigger bump to your damage? So long as you can stay in sneak.
It's possible. I never worked out the math. That's actually just the build for my pistol character that I run all the time. The bobblehead, magazine and chem buff are the only things I added for the video.
@@wiggle_plays maxed out its a 2.5x damage boost, a lot better than a 10% (onto of the 10% base of rank 1) bonus for maxing a guerilla perk. It's still not amazing, but a hefty bump.
Im thinking 10mm pistol 50 crit with 15 faster refill...full health and 22 luck,should crit every other shot then,run grim reaper on the little wendigos to refill your vats and rejuvinated,could speed the fight up a fair bit ? il have to try it out.....gr8 video using less popular weapons ,keep em coming👌

Possibly. It has such a slow rate of fire that you'd probably have to go low health and use every buff imaginable. You'd also need a perfect roll. I might try with a lever action at some point.
Earl is an endgame boss, it's meant to be a challenge tackled by a full instanced event. 1 guy on his own against the toughest enemy is gonna make any weapon look crap.

One of my favorite weapons as well.
The ammo is so cheap, and mag dumping an enemy with a faster fire rate version is a lot if fun.

I’ve only ever soloed Earle once and it was with a bow build with a B50c compound bow. Was fun but it took a while lol

I'm hoping Beth does a little equalizing when it comes to these weapons. That and offer some more dps options to those not using VATS.

Bethesda needs to scale the enemies and weapons better in this game. It shouldn’t be reliant just on a build. Pistols are bad ass.
