You do a wonderful job with minimal equipment. Proof that good equipment doesn't make you a good photographer, but a good photographer doesn't need expensive equipment to take good pictures.
I normally HATE baby photos set with a white background, I love darker backgrounds for added contrast. But, after seeing your shots here mate, you have changed my opinion. Cracking photos.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Focal length is between 50 and 105mm, ISO 100 and f4 so the close eye is sharp and the rest falls soft and out of focus.
brilliant video, makes you realise that you don't need so much fancy props to take amazing images. Also thank you for responding to everyone's questions, its so helpful
im glad you curved the paper to give the cyc effect i was researching all day how to get this effect with out doing construction in my living room so i guess all i have to do is curve the paper and have the appropriate lighting
Great stuff. Can you tell me the lighting equipment you are using I'm noticing your using a softbox or an umbrella which is it? And the light how many watt is it? I'm in the budget of 300 bux us
This is a great setup and beautiful photos! Just stunning! I would love to get that backdrop system as well. Could you let me know the stands and drop you used too please.
Hi Sam, set your ISO to the lowest setting, mine on the 5d mkii is 50. Set the shutter to the highest sync speed for your lights, if it's still too bright, turn the lights down, if still to bright try covering half the lights with something ( black card works) if you still can't get the right exposure you will have to rise the f stop. Let me know if this helps Stephen
Hi, First, very nice pictures !! What's your background material ? Is it vinyl or fabric ? I'm new to baby pictures, I bought an Elinchrom RX2 with softfbox, how do I manage to get a low aperture (I got a 50 mm 1.4) ?? When I try to shoot at 1.4 or 1.8, I just get a totally white picture ! I have to set at f14 or more to get clear pictures but I'm losing this beautiful bokeh :( (I have a 450D). Thanks a lot for answering !
Hello Stephen,,thanks for this tutorial, please can you tell what kind of lens are you using? 24 -70mm? or a prime 50mm?,,,thanks in advance for your help
After watching your video and doing this type of shoot for 5 years now this is my best way 🙂 parents want full outfits but baby grows and towels still best 🙂 just wanted to say thanks 2 years on .
Teacher Wow, beautiful work truly excellent, definitely notice your professionalism and dedication to photography, thanks for sharing such beautiful images and I definitely like to give this beautiful photo shoot, a hug from Jiutepec Morelos, Mexico.
Stephen, what focus mode are you using? I tried with a central point at eyes, but babies are quite unpredictable in their movements and many shots are out of focus.
Cheers for this Stephen,I`m thinking of getting a studio myself and was just wondering what size light you were using on the video and what settings you used...
I wanted to ask, what is the background you are using, what's the material you are using. I would like to take pictures of my baby soon and I want a white background.
Aww lovely, I'm a photographer to I've never went to house tho as I have a home studio my backdrop is to big to take its the high key white vinyl an I use 3 light soft boxes with a strobe light for more effect. Shld actually consider to get a small one like this to do house baby photography :) very nice x
what camera setting do you use to get the pictures like that? i have the same set up as you and am unable to get anything other than white out pic. my iso seems to be stuck on 200 and can only go as low as 4.5f any help would be grately appreciated x
That is inspirational stuff Stephen! Even with one strobe light what beautiful results achieved. Did you also decide to use the existing house lights as fill? And what is that card you shoot once you setup the backdrop before placing the baby? Can you please elaborate a bit about the card, is it for exposure setting?
Hi, thanks for the nice comments, no the house lights are not a fill, they are not the same color temperature. The card is a white balance card, I use it to set the white balance and the exposure.
how much € do you take for baby shooting ? iam new in the "business" but i would like to shoot some baby pictures .. i saw that you have Studiolight is that the one from ebay for smt like 60€? BTW nice pictures..
You have umbrella with the light set up but when you were taking pictures, I notice a flash. Where did you place your flash? I don't see it in the video.
Hello: I love your video, your technique is simple, easy, excellent for babies. I think that it took more time to arm and disarm the set that take photos. Congratulations 100 points. Thank you for sharing
do vinyl backdrops have pole loops?? or do u hang with just clamps?? i have cloth back drops i used them a couple times an the were very wrinkled i bought a steamer a havent used the backdrop yet but would like to get vinyl... how do they hang??/
hii!! I just bought my first strobe kit. An aurora 600w + 300w and I was wondering which one to use on what. I only need to get my backgrounds and I'm going short on money and wondered if I could light a gray background enough to do high key? (Because I need a black for sure, and planned on using gels as modifiers and heard that on white would be pale colors and would have better using gray. Best option would have been a black a gray and a white with gels but I can only get 2 of them for now .. :S ) Any ideas ?? I also have a sb700 if I need 2 lights setup + background lighting. Could do lowkey hiding part of my lights on gray, but black would give me better results, and dramatic vivid colors using gels.. so im kind of stuckkk . Any tip would be great thanks
Do you offer tutorials on how to change the ISO and aperture. . .I'm just starting out and I would love to have some great tips from you. When you edit what program do you use?
Hi there! I am so curious about your equiptment! What is that awesome backdrop studio thing @ 1:15 that you are setting up? Could you give me a link to amazon? Thanks so much have a wonderful day!
One light? But the one with the umbrella is a continuous light, and there is a strobe too....right? I'm very interested in this point ... and by the way, amazing photoshoot !!
I am moving into the realm of baby portraits and found your video to be very inspirational. I have had only two sittings so far ..and due to my set up, felt very awkward at it. I have done pets too and never thought to get to that floor level with kids too.. Thanks so much for sharing your work with us...:)
i wanna ask about lighting use,, how much power of output lighting if set in F4... do you use canon flashlite or studio light,,,,,,,,,,, why use umbrella reflector instead of softbox ? thank you..
Hi Stephen, these are wonderful photos. One suggestion I would like to mention is to add information on shutter speed and aperture settings on the photos for reference. Thank you very much for sharing.
Hey,, isn't this UV light of the camera , NOT GOOD for the babies? Is there a way of lighting that you use to make the babies feel more comfortable? :)
I'm a professional portrait photographer, Steve is most likely using a 50mm, judging from how close he is to his subject. To avoid distortion, you should use a 50mm lens for full length and 85 to 100mm for head shots. Most portraits look good at f/8 or f/11, which gives enough depth-of-field for the face to be in focus, but still blur the background. ISO is unimportant, especially when using a studio strobe. When in doubt, use ISO 100 or 200. You can check out my work at www.seankellyportraits. I welcome questions.
Hey, dude, don't you mind that flash is dangerous for baby? I recommend you to learn about it more and why it's not allowed to use flash for children under 6y.o.
Stem your work is unique and has creativity in it. keep it up. Please what is the name of the software u used in the beginning of this your video? please help me with the name. Thanks
Yes the vinyl has been very good, it can be wiped clean, its black on the other side and because its only about 6 foot wide it fits in the car. Think i got it from ebay.
Elizabeth Lee looks like the photographer used 1 moonlight with a umbrella as a light modifier. You'll need a flash meter and trigger to make it easier to get the correct light reading
You do a wonderful job with minimal equipment. Proof that good equipment doesn't make you a good photographer, but a good photographer doesn't need expensive equipment to take good pictures.
Such beautiful Pictures of such a beautiful baby, when her sister joined the photo shoot it brought tears to my eyes.
I normally HATE baby photos set with a white background, I love darker backgrounds for added contrast. But, after seeing your shots here mate, you have changed my opinion. Cracking photos.
now that's what i call an pro photograph! Good Work Mate even them photos and that song made me cry in Joy to see how stunning them photos where :)
Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Focal length is between 50 and 105mm, ISO 100 and f4 so the close eye is sharp and the rest falls soft and out of focus.

Thank you, Yes for babies i just use one light with a big umbrella, it gives a beautiful light fall off, perfect for black and white prints.
Thank you for the kind comments, look forward to meeting you and your little bundle of joy.
Hi,

Great shots! Thank you so much Stephen. This video definitely helps a lot!
What sort of lens should I be using for this? I seem to have difficulty taking my little boy indoors. Thank you.
Thanks for the video! When the little girl is on her stomach what is under her? Just a rolled up blanket? Thanks!
great results, awesome shots. Mum and dad should of been very happy with them.
Teacher Wow, beautiful work truly excellent, definitely notice your professionalism and dedication to photography, thanks for sharing such beautiful images and I definitely like to give this beautiful photo shoot, a hug from Jiutepec Morelos, Mexico.

Great work. Stephen. Way to go - one light! Love it! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers for this Stephen,I`m thinking of getting a studio myself and was just wondering what size light you were using on the video and what settings you used...
Hi, I'm just starting out on my own where would I find a white & black backdrop like the one shown? Also should I purchase a light like the one shown?
Hi Stephen, did you used only one strobe light for this baby shoot?
i know this is a old video, but i am new to photography and was just wondering if you use your on-board flash? or do you use a external flash?
I wanted to ask, what is the background you are using, what's the material you are using. I would like to take pictures of my baby soon and I want a white background.
Great video, thank you for uploading. How did you do the stacked cubes in your intro?
Thank you, I used Adobe after affects

Hi Steven. That vinyl is a good idea and a lot smaller than my 2.75 meter wide paper. Where did you get that from?
what camera setting do you use to get the pictures like that? i have the same set up as you and am unable to get anything other than white out pic. my iso seems to be stuck on 200 and can only go as low as 4.5f any help would be grately appreciated x
Hi,
This is so cute...... Any tips how you made the video? what software did you use or did you record from the video camera? please advice.
Thanks
can you please tell me the lens and light you used for this. THanks..great pics!
Hello. What fabric are you using for your infinite background? Or it's a tarp. Nice pictures, congratulations

You have umbrella with the light set up but when you were taking pictures, I notice a flash. Where did you place your flash? I don't see it in the video.
The flash is the umbrella, the light you see is the modeling light for the strobe

Hey,, isn't this UV light of the camera , NOT GOOD for the babies? Is there a way of lighting that you use to make the babies feel more comfortable? :)
Hi, I haven't used any uv light.
+Roanga De Silva UV light? I think you should worry more about the 100 vaccines Bill Gates has ready to inject your baby with.
+Roanga De Silva I think your thinking roanga de silva that you don't want any UV light because your a VAMPIRE
