  • Amazon Prime we’re not going for strike 3. Two times your supply chain got the best of you on a $2100 lens. I will be ordering the replacement from local shop as I can trust them.
More of the story, ordered a Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS version 3, a seriously bad ass lens and a considerable upgrade over my current lens in that range. The first was to be delivered on Valentine’s Day, sweet treat to myself. The shipment was delayed and didn’t show up until after I was out of town. The delay was my first sign of trouble. I picked up the package on Monday from an authorized UPS pick-up location as I needed to sign for the package due to the value. I brought it home, thinking that it felt light for what it was, but packaging etc may effect the weight. Open it up and it was a used and abused, non working, 70-200 f4L.
I call Amazon customer service and explain what happened and they said we can send a replacement and then when you get it, send in the wrong one on return. Cool, taking care of the problem and investigating the issue.
Tonight, the second attempt shows up. This time it’s a bigger box but still feels light. So I asked my son to record while I did an unboxing. Open it up and the replacement was wrapped in cellophane, good sign. But it is really shaky inside the box so I can tell something is wrong, open it up and of course, Amazon was duped again. This time their supplier put an old Vivitar 85-205 f3.8 lens in the box that looks like it was made 30 years ago. They thru in a block of wood to get it closer to the weight of the lens, but it was still light for the lens that I ordered. The lens should also not shake inside the box.
Amazon has said they will refund my purchase after I return the two wrong lenses. I hope that goes better than the first two attempts at getting the lens I ordered.
The customer service rep I spoke to this morning said they have pulled the lens off of their website until they can get thru an investigation of what is happening in their supply chain. I would be leery buying a lens of this value from Amazon. Instead support a local camera shop or a place like B&H or Adorama.

That’s ridiculous. I hope you didn’t sound as calm when you were on the phone with Amazon. I would be livid. Especially for a large amount of money. I ordered a 70-200 iii from amazon as well, and it was the real thing. I have no idea how I’d feel if I had your luck with shipping the wrong lenses.
