Good evening! Thank you very much for over 7,600 subscribers - I really hope you enjoy this walk around the gorgeous seaside hamlet of Runswick Bay, on the always glorious Yorkshire coast :)
Given its history as an isolated fishing village, there's not all that much we know about Runswick Bay through time, but the village is home to rather a few interesting legends, including the story of the 'Hob Hole'. At the bottom of the cliffs on the southern side of the bay, you'll find a number of caves, the largest of which is said to be home to a 'Hob', or hobgoblin. According to legend, the Hob at Runswick Bay had the power to cure whooping cough, and so mothers from the village would bring their sick children to it in hope of a cure!

It really is! The whole coast is a gorgeous part of the world, but Runswick Bay might indeed be one of the most beautiful villages of the many dotted along the Yorkshire cliffs :)

I've literally just returned from a 5 day break on the East Coast, and one of the places i visited was Runswick Bay. This was a chance encounter because I was actually told to visit Staithes (I didn't really like Staithes and found it overrated for what it was). We started heading back towards Ruswarp (which is where we were staying) when we noticed the sign for Runswick Bay. It was the best turn we made all week! I literally fell in love with the small little paths, alleys, and streets! The stunning little cottages were nestled like beautiful chocolate boxes up the hillside and the gardens were so pretty and well maintained.
In fact, I spent so long up the paths and around the cottages, I spoke to some of the locals who were really lovely. Eventually I headed down to the beach and enjoyed a long walk along the front and explored the caves. Now I'm back home near Leeds and I'm really depressed 😂
Thanks for posting this video. Now i can show this video to my loved ones and they can see how beautiful the place really is.

Nice walk in the village of Runswick bay. Very beautiful and historical on a sunny day. Your walks are always wonderful. And the history lessons you give are always great. I like the sea gulls bird 🐦 sounds. Hope to see more soon. Have a great day 😀 how is your week? Mine is great 👍🙂

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video - there are few places more gorgeous on a sunny day than Runswick Bay with the seagulls squawking overhead - it's Yorkshire at its finest :)

Beautiful, could see myself quite easily getting lost in those tiny narrow lanes, despite that fact that the village isn't that big. Fascinating to think that even after the whole village is wiped from the map, they just went back and rebuilt it. Yorkshiremen, tough as nails, especially the fisher folk. Great walk, keep up the good work!

Ha ha I can tell you I got lost quite a few times planning this walk - but there really are few better places to lose yourself (and it can take quite a while to navigate out of the labyrinth of houses there!)
It is amazing that the whole village was rebuilt after the landslide, I'm not entirely sure how long it took, but certainly the hardy Yorkshire men and women of the village won't have waited around getting it finished :)
Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comments - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!

It certainly is very quaint - and the views over the bay are absolutely wonderful :) This video was filmed at low tide, so that's why there was a bit more seaweed on the beach, but it also gives us the chance to see the village from where the water would be!
Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!

Why has that 'cheap looking' building been placed on what was once a great terrace in front of the pub? It used to be fantastic sitting outside having a pint! Now it has been greatly reduced in space and the miniscule terrace for the 'lucky early arrivers (reserved?) people only! Bad move!
