Should you wish to learn more of the supernatural bravery, overwhelming strength of character displayed not only by Dick Thompson and these other featured warriors, prepare to spend some time reading/watching some of their fellow SOG peers ... many of whom are mentioned in these very interviews. These would include Dick Meadows, Roy Benavidez (MOH), Lynne Black, Jon Cavaiani (MOH), Leroy Wright (One Zero on team Sgt. Benavidez did his one man Bright Light on), Bob Howard (MOH). The sheer amount of courage all these men consistently displayed is nothing less than awe inspiring.
@@Coffeeguyzz The crazything is from the stories I've read about Black, Meadows and Wright all these guys had MOH worthy events also but it was just never documented or were given a lower award (often due to details being redacted for the sake of secrecy)
Amazing to see u all still alive. I usually say a one zero was the highest position and deserved the highest respect. But all the guys had gone in harms way to the max. On the spike teams, hatchet forces, and chopper crews. American or indig. Glad you all made it home.
I wrote my senior thesis paper on Vietnam and the special units. Mac V Sog was still just a so called rumor at the time. I am glad you guys finally got to tell your story, it needed to definitely be told. My father is a veteran and he used to complain about not being able to cross the border to chase after the NVA. May God bless all you gentleman you fought a hell of a war.
As a, relatively young, police officer, investigator, and lawyer it gives me a sense of relief to see Dick, me knowing by his pedigree what an absolute monster savage he is (Dick if you read this, I mean this with the most veneration and respect, you're a brave and honorable soldier that I respect beyond words. Its just the lingo of my generation), to have a heaving chest from anxiety giving this interview. By the grace of God I've always been able to face the call when it comes, but its the smallest things that make me question my ability to answer. That is not to say that I've ever had to face anything remotely close to what these great men have had to face, but when its time to put your gloves on, my dirt bag brain has a tendency to say, "remember that minor thing you got nervous about? How can someone like you that gets nervous about minor things like that respond to this serious event." Seeing a man of such great pedigree be nervous in situations that I would be nervous in gives me solace that I'm not alone and that I am only what I'm able to produce. I know that when I take a door, I'm able to produce, despite how nervous I might get on camera. Thank you to you gentlemen, to your families, and the brothers you left behind. Thank you for your dedication and sacrifice for us. I'm sorry that you didn't get the recognition you deserved when you came back. Hindsight is 20/20 and I know the government wasn't truthful about our reasons for being over there, but I'm grateful that men like you showed up to answer the call to protect our freedoms. I pray that I could have the same resolve in similar circumstances.
I have so much respect for any veterans. I thank you all for your service. My grandpa is a Vietnam vet and he might half to have heart surgery next month. I wont to ask his story but im afraid to ask but i feel like i should before he's gone.
This is just so freaking cool man... having all these guys on at the same time... I’ll bet, even at their age, if they ever had to get do some sog work again, they’d absolutely wreck anyone in their way.... What an amazing interview. I know I’m a bit late, but I’m in absolute amazement when it comes to these guys and so glad this game is here!
Fantastic idea having these guys on. They helped pave the way for US Special forces for the next 50 years, and hearing their stories is always an encouragement to get after it and never give up, no matter the odds you face. Looking forward to seeing more content involving them.
I want an NVA helmet!! My dad, a vet, had a friend named Terry. Terry was a Native American Marine Vietnam vet. One day he came over to my dads with a duffel bag saying he had a gift for me (I was 13 or so). It was 3 ChiCom Ak47's he had somehow shipped home from Nam. Wood frame with a red star or triangle on the butt. I couldnt believe it...Dad said no. I still have a few war relics of Terrys however. He told me that they always had him on point because they felt he would be the best guy for the job, being Natve. I have pictures of him in Nam also; he painted his face in a Indian war paint style. Good man. He died from Alcohol, very sad.
Damn. Good to see you all sharing stories and working on this stuff. My Dad used to talk about MACV a lot. He was LRP, LRRP, LRRRP (however many R got added or removed) back then, lol. He just passed away 4/2021 though. Wish he could have been around long enough to see this stuff.
re Jeep stealing: I was at the yard camp of FOB2. I had asked some of the troops to get a squad of good men. They showed up and i had them scout the area. On their first outing, they came back all acting sheepish. They wanted to know if they could keep a jeep they found hidden. They brought it in camp under cover. Nice jeep. While I was trying to figure what to do, I happened to be at FOB2 S4, and saw a big radio that would have fit perfectly on the "found" jeep. So I asked. Paul was in the S4 and got very upset. I explained. The he explained. Paul had a reputation of hitching rides to bases for some S4 business. Then stealing a ride home. This jeep was very HOT. It was the jeep of the head of an Intel unit in Pleiku. They were very serious about finding it. Paul said they had helicopters etc looking for it. I don't recall what the yards did with it. Paul died in the attack on our HQ in Danang, Aug, 23, 68.
Thanks for sharing your memories of that time. The sapper attack was a great tragedy for SOG. Ourteam hopes that the game we made can help keep the memory of the sacrifices made by the men of SOG alive for new generations.

Mr.Dick Thompson is the most humble warrior and man for that matter I’ve ever seen/met! I mean my goodness
He is a truly superhuman humanitarian guy, the word legend is often, nearly always, overused, not so when we say Dick Thompson, LEGEND.
