I will never play games or fully use FSD on my MYP quicksilver with HW3 so for me it doesnt matter what they do. HW4 is not available in Europe fully in Europe due to legal reasons. By the time FSD is available fully and approved we will have hw5 and hw6 even.
Thanks Brian. I’m pretty certain at this point that it will, just based on the additional sensors being added. Earlier production of the radar had production constraints which is likely to be resolved by now. But nothing is 100 percent sure
HW4 Model Ys have been shipping for some time now, yes? Some of those would inevitably have gone to people trading in HW3 Teslas. If the reduced RAM actually had any noticeable impact on real-world performance, you'd think someone would have complained. Personally, there's no way I'd ever bother installing games on my car's infotainment hardware unless it was capable of at least level 4 autonomy, and even then I could just get a Steam deck.
It’ll only be noticeable when newer software comes out. Similar to how the iPhone X was flawless even with a couple new iOS releases. But later down the line it started to slow down dramatically. You won’t feel it in HW4 teslas yet
Not all RAM is equal, are they using the exact same RAM between HW3 & HW4? If not, is there further data on the RAM such as generation (ddr4? 5?), clock speed and timings? 8GB of newer, faster RAM can perform better than 12GB of older, slower RAM.
@@heyJohnEe that is disappointing, I guess they rarely saw the utilization from 'normal' infotainment usage to justify the previous RAM allocation. I doubt the average user will notice or care about this, but It does mean that power users suffer. I'll still be choosing a HW4 vehicle for the vastly improved cameras, though. I'm expecting it to be a hard requirement for any future FSD improvements as HW3 cameras frankly suck. No idea how FSD has got so far on these things, it's remarkable really.
I doubt most of us will notice the different unless you have both vehicles sitting side by side and opening a ton of apps, but ultimately HW3 does have an advantage. What are your thoughts will this affect your purchase decision?
Evidences show that the old M3P beats the new M3P in drag races. Tesla in China said that the Highland base model is around 28k which is about 10k or 25% cost reduction. With that much reduction, you will wait to buy 2024 Corolla instead of buying 2023 Camry.

It’s not. But it’s now merged into a single board

It’s using slower NON ECC ram that’s also smaller in size. There’s no outcome that would make it an improvement over HW3 ram unfortunately
