"Only party members can attack" Ok pretty easy still. "And it's AI control only" Oh now I see where the nightmare begins. "Oh and all Draconian quests." ...Wait hold on stop. *Reveals surprise* I think this might legally now be some form of torture.
It's hard enough turning the game into Persona 3 FES without the protagonist, but turning on all the Draconian Quest options on top of that? This might be the hardest challenge run of any JRPG I've ever seen, and I'm all for it
if you won't heal in battle, you can use heal outside of battle, so you don't have to go back and forth to rest up. And, with Erik's Nose for Treasure, if you find any more treasure you missed, you'll probably find more items, weapons or seeds.
A couple of tips to hopefully make it easier for you! Turn on pep powers for the AI, as it is automatically set to off. Also, Erik's skill cobra strike is very useful for its DOT effect, as well as buffing the skill Victimiser he gets after it. I hope this helps, both for now and future!
As someone who's done a pacifist run and an All Draconian Quests run of this game, I honestly don't know if this is even possible. But if it _is,_ then this'll easily be one of the most entertaining playthroughs I've seen
Ever since you mentioned the hateful comments on your videos in the Scarlet Nexus commentary, I have to wonder why these commenters are so rude. Nam's Compendium, another youtuber, recently did a challenge run of Persona 4 (PS2 version) where he had to get the game's good ending by only guarding with the protagonist and having the party on AI control only, which is similar to what you're doing here. Not a single comment on his video was like "This is torture, why are you ruining the game, or are you OK?" He's not even a challenge run-focused channel.
Yeah. I don't get why people do that. They do realized that the point of a challenge run is to play games under certain restrictions. You know, for a challenge.
Internet trolls will do just that troll. I personally find these challenge runs extremely fun to watch. It's a fun new take on some of my favorite games.
Preach. Like, why do they bother watching the video and being fussy about it? They should just watch "90 year-old grandma with cataracts plays Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater with the smartphone as the controller" since they like watching "game ruining runs" so much
I love how this game already has options to take the challenge to extremes if you want. Of course, you're also going above and beyond which is what's awesome about this channel. Very excited
What a stramge first playthrough of DQXI! It's my favourite game of all time, I hope you enjoy :) there are actually 4 different ways to get past the guard to heliodor! First of course is the dog, but then if you give an NPC near the top of the area a flintstone, he'll make a tunnel for you. Third is the love note, and fourth is actually paying up and giving the guard a whopping 2500 gold to get past! I can't spoiler tag but there's definitely a... part of the game where I think this challenge is gonna require some workarounds to proceed. Throwing golden knives at fat old men doesn't quite count as Noah Tack after all hehehe
I'm just started watching the video, but as someone who played through DQ11 with all draconian Quests on, I'm getting shivers at the nightmare that'll unfold in this video. You're a madman and I can't wait to see how you get through this mess. Okay so I watched the Video, and I think I know where this is going, but just in case you don't know... you can switch from 3d to 2mode at the priests where you save. you can then go back to 3d afterwards, which will reset every overworld chest, pot and collectable item. great way to farm some easy mini medals and seeds. it's long and tedious, but when your defense stat just isn't cutting it, you'll just have to bite the bullet.
Dragon Quest XI iss a LONG one, be prepared. Also I am pretty sure there aint no way you can beat the game like this. No way at all, but you're free to prove me wrong. also, instead of declaring the run not possible, you could reduce the amount of draconian quests little by little and see whit which amount of them its still possible to beat the game like this. I think you can change them during the game.
Damn you really didn't hesitate a second on turning on every single Draconian Quest 😂 .... Have to edit this cause it's even more impressing considering it's your first playthrough
Given some of the other incredibly difficult challenges you've overcome, I was not expecting the very first boss to stonewall you this hard. Very excited to see how you manage to overcome it!
My prediction: It's theoretically possible with enough luck, provided you skip any mandatory solo fight. However I highly doubt anybody would be willing to subject themselves to the amount of sheer time it would take to make those lucky moments happen. It will be incredibly frustrating and will most likely end in failure before you spend that much time on it. Also under these restrictions you actually have to reset the game if the protagonist ever gets shypox in battle so... yeah might wanna have that as an exception to the defend only thing. (Since skipping / losing your turn is not defending.) Spoiler Tips for Draconion mode: Level up to the cap every time you have a major boss or enemy to get though. You won't have enough Attack or Defense or HP is you don't. Use Crafting to get the best weapons, you cannot get the best sword in the game under these conditions but you can still get pretty good weapons, and the faster you take out the enemy the less change you have of them giving you a game over. You could sit there and farm seeds as well, but since your not going to have direct control over your characters, that means no pep powers, so no metal farming, pip pop abuse, or seed stacking will work here. It's a huge time sink, but possible. I guess you could technically gamble long enough to get the coins required for certain items, but you can't use them in battle sooo not really any point.
Erik can wield swords and the Bronze Sword +3, which is forgeable at this point in the game, has +4 attack over the Divine Dagger +3, so that could maybe help.
only very recently discovered your channel, but have watched almost all vids now! Your editing and voice overs are very engaging, so even when I only listen (as I sometimes get a bit dizzy from the speedups) it is still highly enjoyable. Keep up the great work :)
Doing a challenge run in a blind playthough sounds like even more fun. You sound like you know this game but I believe you. Can't wait to see how you'll defeat that Tricky Devil ^^ 5:30 That sinister kid always reminds me of Trunks from Dragon Ball. Is it just me? 😆
Having done all Draconian Quests 2D mode for my blind playthrough, I genuinely don’t think this is going to be possible. Even without random encounters whittling away at the party, most bosses on All Draconian require very specific strategies (and luck), and you can’t just over level or purchase/forge equipment to make up the difference.
One suggestion I would I say is turning off the reduced xp because trust me by the time you take on a certain “knight” the fight will feel almost impossible 🤦♂️you should be allowed to over level especially since the main character won’t be attacking
Maby tone it down with the draconian quests, at this point your going to have to pray to rngesus for lucky odds unless this method you've found really is that good
Full draconian is already hard enough even with the MC attacking and healing in battle. Becoming a dead weight in the team makes it harder. Not understanding the mechanics and best skill tree path to go through early on makes it much harder. There's are many hard fights in the whole draconian challenge even with a full team and using buffs, and that imp(tricky devil) is the least of your worries. I wish you luck and i hope you can keep your sanity.
Still don't get why people say this game was too easy, aside from DQ8 being way harder so a key comparison, it was less easy than every other JRPG I've played since FFVI including e.g. Lost Odyssey that people say is hard for some reason (just has more complex mechanics and people ignore them so a few, 2, bosses take advantage). Would've liked a little more of a challenge without the draconian modifiers that just make the game annoying, but still don't think the game was too easy compared to almost every other similar game when most of them are clearly easier. Basically it's just, a lot easier than 8, and 8 is slightly hard.
It has been awhile since I played this game but a lot of it is the characters you use. A lot of the combinations that people said were good when the game was hard for them were the weaker characters often with their only good trait being their early abilities but quickly outclassed.
i recently discovered your vids and i love them, there are not many jrpg challenge runs on youtube. i would love to see a ni no kuni challenge, either no familiars, or only one weak familiar
I’m pretty sure the disparity between “Erdrea” and “Erdrear” is a consequence for having different English accents in the voice cast. I’ve heard a couple folks pronounce Freeza as “Freezer” and they can’t help it.
You can still buy the cat suit in Gondolia even with no shopping activated. I think you can also buy the holy water from the fortune teller in the slums of heliodor. I wonder if there are any other exceptions. In the previous are should be great sabrecats which may allow you to level up some more?
I love these runs, I can't wait for you to do something janky like "Can you beat Etrian Odyssey with five Alchemists" (it's a game that runs and navigates just like Persona 1 that's also by Atlus. If Persona 1 is them testing the concept, EO is their franchise refining the traversal concept)
Oh hey cool. Always glad to see more unique Dragon Quest content! "All Draconian Quest options turned on." Jesus Christ. I've done that myself and it's hard enough even while the Hero can attack. I didn't even do Act 3 with how hard the first two acts were. The only time I've seen someone do everything in Act 3 with all Draconian is with using the item duplication glitch to max out their stats with Seeds. Good luck you madman.
Funnily enough I played my first playthrough of dq11 with a.i controlled party mebers but controlling hero only switch when I really needed too. It was fun.
You gonna be okay? It hasn't even been 24 hours since you dropped "Can you beat Scarlet Nexus without PSYCHOKINESIS?! | SOLO | VERY HARD", Like, is this pace hard on you or will you be okay?
Big tip with skill trees that's very useful when you have the limit experience option on and especially when you want to ensure the AI has as few moves as possible to choose from, but you get the ability to respec using gold at any save point a little bit into the game and there's a little trick you can do to either gets skills earlier or effectively avoid getting excess skills. The respeccing doesn't do the full skill tree, it just does it one section at a time and doesn't remove any skills from other sections even if it means those skills are no longer adjacent to skills you've unlocked. One of the best uses of this actually comes from a party member you get at the same time as gaining this feature, where you can get their AoE healing skill that will be useful throughout the whole game immediately. The method can be hard to describe in text, so I recommend that when you get to that point look at that section of the speedrun to see how to do it. That being said, I imagine this run is going to be insanely rng dependent because DQXI is very support focused, especially in the late game where the best choice is to have Erik get buffed and do his crazy high damage moves while you have 3 support characters handle said buffing, debuffing the boss, and ensuring that Erik stays alive so that he can actually get his big hits off.
Don't really wanna be a party crasher but... There's one unavoidable solo fight that forces you to battle alone with no assistance, and you have to win it to progress
Honestly no exp from easy fights is the most fun modifier bc you can hit the lvl cap for everyone for the area and that makes boss fights more balanced
Currently doing my own playthrough of all draconian quests and it's insanely hard as it is there's no way it's possible without using the main character. Even with grinding
I'd be okay with restarting this challenge without Shypox because all it does is make it RNG dependent. It doesn't make anything more difficult just obnoxious. The biggest tip I can offer is you need to be very careful with your seeds. Characters for various reasons will leave your party. Seeds should only be used as part of an absolute last resort as a result.
Pep chance might be useful if you allow party members to activate pep abilities that include the protagonist. Technically he isn't doing anything on his turn, so maybe that's acceptable? Honestly I don't even know if party members will use pep abilities on AI. I've played this game through like half a dozen times, but I've never played with AI on.
@@nanidafaq7626 Yeah saw that in one of his later videos heh. I didn't know you could turn that on because I always played on full control, but it's cool they give you that option
First time playing? Oh no. Tips: short term, it might take awhile but see of any more powerful enemies appear at night to fight for exp, the only other enemy that might work is... the great sabercats back in the prior area. A more long term tip is that you can refund spent skill points at churches, and it takes gold to do, but does not count as shopping. Handy if you need a character to have a particular skill for a fight, or to use a new weapon type you got with more power, so don't stockpile your points.
There are only a couple Tips I can tell you: You can get you tp back via the angle statue. So skill all you like. (a lot of peaple don't know that) Team mambers never use items. Exept one. I'm not telling what. You can run over weaker mobs with your horse. It dosnt give any exp or item. Good luck. Ps: Ignore this one below if you don't want a spoiler if you can or can't win this challenge the way it's written now. You HAVE to usw Atleast one item via mc, and there will be a couple of fights you have to do with mc alone. But you can use the parry system to overcome this, but probably die via leck of healing.
Also, I appreciate the actually not knowing if the run is possible. So many challenge run videos end up being possible, it's not even a question going in as a viewer anymore.

Only played the demo, so im not fountain of knowledge, but i would imagine skills to be of vital importance. After all, mp is a resource for stronger commands than attack by design. Given the end of the video though, looks like that's what you did, so..
Bruh those Draconian quests are gonna make this challenge almost impossible 🤦♂️it’s insane how difficult this game is when you put all the quests together especially no armor I really wonder if you’ll be able to beat this challenge run🤦♂️
If you think some of the restrictions are too annoying (cough cough Shypox, NPC liars), you could always try Absolution to remove one of them. I wouldn't exactly blame you for not wanting to cope with more RNG than usual or an NPC slightly wasting your time.
I had some thoughts for your magic only FF15 run. Maybe equiping your team mates with spells might have helped a little? You could also make some Healcast spells.
Removing the watermark AND playing Koichi Sugiyama's compositions in the background? Careful, Squenix can be hefty with their IP protection. I haven't played with Draconian settings on, but can you reset the skill tree at the church the way you can in a normal run or does that count as shopping? If so, you might want to change up your skill tree to sword as you can squeeze out another 4 damage per hit with a bronze sword as opposed to a divine dagger and the sword damage increase skill can get you another additional 5 damage when compared to the knife one. Plus Flame slash adds another 5 flat damage and costs 1 MP less over sleeper hit, which is something to consider because tricky devil has a 50% chance to resist sleep and sleeper hit's special effect only goes off 50% of the time, so you're looking at a 25% to sleep for 1-4 turns. In short, for this fight, do you want to get a 2-3 extra hits about every 4 attacks or do you want +9 damage per hit with an extra +5 per special attack with a slower MP drain? On average (assuming that Erik uses his strongest technique each turn) knife with sleeper hit will do an additional 10 damage per round (counting rounds that Tricky Devil is asleep as free damage rather than as turns), vs an additional 14 damage per round that is more reliable. Of course, my maths might be off on the latter because I don't know the exact damage formula DQ11 uses. Also, Tricky devil has 9 MP and both his spells cost 3 MP each, so you're looking at 2 sizz 1 heal or 1 sizz 2 heal.
This comment will have slight spoilers for act 2 of the game A little bit into act 2 of the game you are forced to fight like 5-6 different encounters without anyone in your party so goodluck with that
I don't think this will be possible and I do think you are lessening your playthrough by not letting yourself use any of the armor or accessories. The game is long enough that you won't want to play it again for quite some time.
Bad rap for being to easy? Who says that?? This is the first I've heard of it. Why do you keep ruining these games by mentioning obscure complaints? Thanks a lot dude..
Bro, can you stop it with all the fake laughing? I get that you're afraid that if you narrate normally, people will get bored, but this doesn't really make you any more endearing.

Can you equip counterattack skills at this point to deal damage without having to use an action to do so?
There is in fact one, but I'm not sure if you can still progress that way, don't wanna spoil why because that is indeed, spoilers
That fight in the fog?
I didn't know about the dancer way through to town, I just go up to the second level a talk to guy who's digging a tunnel out of the slums.
And I've been going through with all of them on with thought... Lets see how far this goes.
You're just a masochists at this point my brother.
Keep up the good work.
Don't know a thing about dragon quest but i enjoyed this 👍
Thanks, hope you also enjoy Parts 2 and 3! 😀
I did 😁
Honestly no exp from easy fights is the most fun modifier bc you can hit the lvl cap for everyone for the area and that makes boss fights more balanced
You can do it bruh more grind lezgoo .
Also, look for all forging recipes and items.
Thanks, that's really helpful!
Oh this is going to be fun. I wonder if you'll do the true ending. If so, this is going to be a LONG challenge.
I really love this game
Pep chance might be useful if you allow party members to activate pep abilities that include the protagonist. Technically he isn't doing anything on his turn, so maybe that's acceptable?
Honestly I don't even know if party members will use pep abilities on AI. I've played this game through like half a dozen times, but I've never played with AI on.
@@PwnySlaystation01they can, but its off by default. you can toggle it at any time in the tactics menu
I would like to see you try a Disgaea 5 Prinny/Prinnies only run or a Dragon's Dogma throwables only run at some point
chucking Prinny bombs everywhere
I think its kinda funny because throwblasts are super busted in DD
I wanted to do this challenge for myself. Except i'd use the protag for healing.
Actually watching so i hope you had luck.
Let me know if you manage to get any further than I did! Good luck. :)
There are only a couple Tips I can tell you:
You can get you tp back via the angle statue. So skill all you like.
(a lot of peaple don't know that)
Team mambers never use items.
Exept one. I'm not telling what.
You can run over weaker mobs with your horse.
It dosnt give any exp or item.
Good luck.
Ps:
Ignore this one below if you don't want a spoiler if you can or can't win this challenge the way it's written now.
You HAVE to usw Atleast one item via mc, and there will be a couple of fights you have to do with mc alone.
But you can use the parry system to overcome this, but probably die via leck of healing.
When you like sm torture and like video games as well:
i love trunks
You have to transfer the healing items over to the character.
Wasn't expecting to see my mom make a cameo.

Do the challenges stay on the screen?
Is this spoiler free or? I want to See this but im only at Act 2 from the Story.
I have the last Charakter in my Team I call him "Eight"
If you think some of the restrictions are too annoying (cough cough Shypox, NPC liars), you could always try Absolution to remove one of them. I wouldn't exactly blame you for not wanting to cope with more RNG than usual or an NPC slightly wasting your time.
I had some thoughts for your magic only FF15 run. Maybe equiping your team mates with spells might have helped a little?
You could also make some Healcast spells.
Is it just me or did he not equip the armor he upgraded?
He can't equip it, he forgot that when he upgraded it 🤦♂️
Quite literally impossible. Also have to say that this game really does not have a bad rep at all
Removing the watermark AND playing Koichi Sugiyama's compositions in the background?
I could se Heal as still being Pacifist, your simply trying to survive while using it, your not the one doing the killing, your friends are.
This comment will have slight spoilers for act 2 of the game
A little bit into act 2 of the game you are forced to fight like 5-6 different encounters without anyone in your party so goodluck with that
lol, get annoyed at the game for saying the name of the planet differently, then 30 seconds later calmly say "vases" in 2 different variations.
I don't think this will be possible and I do think you are lessening your playthrough by not letting yourself use any of the armor or accessories. The game is long enough that you won't want to play it again for quite some time.
wait, wait, wait, WAIT!... the name "Sandy" is unisex? WTF? it's clearly a female name.
the wiki says the main protag is a guy
Oh sorry, I meant Sandy (the dog). Not sure if the dog is male or female!
Bad rap for being to easy? Who says that?? This is the first I've heard of it. Why do you keep ruining these games by mentioning obscure complaints? Thanks a lot dude..
This sounds like common persona fan whining in the worst way 😞This is why I hesitate to say I even like smt😒
If you consider a game "ruined" by obscure complaints, you have some issues.
Bro, can you stop it with all the fake laughing? I get that you're afraid that if you narrate normally, people will get bored, but this doesn't really make you any more endearing.
