NOTE: I use a metal fork in the video which has never given me any issues. However it is suggested that you use plastic or something that is not metal to mix the henna.

I am an indian and henna is used in my home since ages. We had henna trees all over our surroundings and would apply for hands and hair out if fresh leaves. We mix the henna powder in a cast iron bowl and let it sit overnight because the cast iron leaves residue into the paste and the paste becomes iron rich which is good for hair. If you are mixing in any other bowl other than cast iron do not care to let it sit. You can apply right away.
cast iron they have found is not healthy these days, though, so best to avoid!
Great video! Thanks for the help. I used this video and a few others to learn how to use to mix and use a henna and indigo mix to dye my hair for the first time just yesterday and OMG I love the results. The mixing and dying process was messy and waiting 4 hours (I couldn't make it to 6 hours lol) was just grueling for me. but it was all totally worth it. My hair is shiny, thick and the grey dyed to a beautiful rich golden brown colored highlights.
One years ago I went to a local salon where they burnt my waist length brown hair so badly that it was falling out in clumps, I was freaked out but there wasn't much I could do other than lots of hot oil and protein treatments.. But it was not falling from my scalp (thank my lucky stars) but it was breaking off below the new growth that had just been dyed. Luckily I was going through a divorce and had waited far too long to dye my roots at that time, so the breakage was about 4 inches from my scalp.
I've been trying to let my hair grow enough that I could cut off the burnt parts and then if I cut it, I would at least be left with shoulder length hair, but I hated the gray so yesterday I finally tried the henna and indigo and even as messy as it all was, I am thrilled and will continue to use this combination from now on. I will never use chemical dyes again.
wendoy .
The Nupur henna gives me a darker color than say Jamila henna. It will go even darker if you add in some indigo. When I made a 50/50 mix of henna and indigo it gave me like a cinnamon brown. Also, it's possible to deepen the color with each application. I've only tried coconut milk in my mix but tend to just use water and lemon juice when I want to dye my hair. Henna glosses are just easier to use I think because they rinse out a lot easier than just plain henna.
I've also used stainless steel utensils to mix both pure henna and pure indigo. No problems. I'd still suggest using plastic or glass bowls though (as shown in vid) since storing many food things in metal/stainless steel/brushed metal bowls isn't recommended. I run into a lot of strange opinions on henna, since people are not very educated on the pure stuff! I've bleached over henna and indigo, and no, my hair did not start on fire. lol! Awesome vid, tx for posting!!
Thanks for commenting and watching!
I love Butters and Bars, they have the best oils and shea butter.
Hi there...love your video and would like to try this. Never done any hair dying before. I see someone had asked your ratio is 2/3 Indigo to 1/3 Henna, is that a cup measurement? Also, in mixing your Henna powder with green tea, is this a green tea powder you're talking about? I would appreciate your response, thank you very much!!
for how long period indigo pack should be used on hair

Thanks for the shout out in your links. Really appreciate you! Are you still using henna or strengthening treatments with herbal hair masks?
Hey! I haven't used henna in years so it has since grown out. I am considering going back though because I can tell that the box dye is not a very good alternative for my hair. I may stop by your site to see what's new. Happy New Year!
@@Curlyincolorado Happy New Year! That would be amazing. Thanks for replying. You know if you ever do want to even collab, I'd love to. I'm always looking for people who want to share their experiences and give people the right information about henna and healthy hair care. There are so many frustrating myths and misconceptions that surround henna. Let me know if you're ever interested :) - Khadija

I know this is ages ago now, but if you get pure henna and indigo without metallic compounds in it you can use whatever tools you like
Where .can i bay henna and indigo
Super my dear little daughter.
what is butters and burns
How can I get the Henna
This video is so helpful to dye my hair as well for conditioning.. Can you also let know how much indigo powder to be added the same amount as henna powder, also instead of essential oil, can we add coconut oil... Plz reply.. Thank you...
Sorry for the late response. Yes you can add any oils you want as long as they are okay to use on your hair and skin. Coconut oil will help condition the hair. The amount of indigo depends on the color you want to achieve 1/2 henna and 1/2 indigo will give a reddish brown color. A darker brunette color can be achieved when you add even more indigo.
How much indigo and how much henna have you used
I haven't had any adverse effects from using a regular fork but I do use a plastic bowl. Thanks for watching! :)
I just use the metal fork to mix it but I always store the mix in a plastic container with a plastic lid. The acid in the mix can lead to a tarnish on the utensil but I've never had this problem. Thanks for watching! :)
if i am mix a both and can i kept this mixture for hole night
The henna can sit overnight and still give a good dye but the indigo powder has dye that releases right away so it is most effective when used immediately. I usually mix my indigo right before I apply it.
Does your process cover grays? I want the brown color but I also need to cover my gray hair.
The only thing that covered my gray strands was doing the 2 step process. This is where you apply henna first then rinse out. After that you apply indigo and rinse. It's a long process because I would leave the henna for a couple hours. The end result is black hair with gray strand coverage. Whenever I combined the two together I would get a brown color but the gray strands stayed light. Hope that helps.
Yes you can achieve this with using henna and indigo. For brown tones you can use a one step process with good grey coverage.
Nice video!!
Is the essential oil just for the scent?
Dying my beard.
Yes, the essential oil is optional.
where can I get the henna and indigo powder from? does it sell at any beauty supply store?
The henna you may be able to find at an Indian Grocery store or you can check the description box for links to my favorite online vendors. The Indigo I also purchase online usually from the Henna Sooq website.
we sell it in India and supply to other places in the world too. coralcrue@gmail.com

When are you xoming back to UA-cam? We miss you...
Awwww! I miss it too hopefully soon 😁
How long you should keep in the hair the mixture
I would usually leave the henna in for at least two hours; the indigo for one hour. I would also make sure to let the henna sit overnight for the color to develop but, with the indigo, I would mix up right before application.
What is the ratio of henna to indigo and do u have gray hair? What is the initial color on your hair?
I used 2/3 Indigo to 1/3 Henna for the brunette color. I have dark brown hair with a few strands of gray. Before this video I used henna so my hair was like an auburn brown color which showed up in the sun. It appeared to be just dark brown indoors. Hope that helps!
What if you put only indigo in your hair. I don't want any brown - just black hair. Is that ok or do you have to mix henna and indigo>
Indigo will make it really black. Add salt to the indigo (use warm water, salt dissolved in water) Indigo is naturally acidic and it will burn your scalp without the salt. I did it and it hurt pretty bad. Henna is alkaline so when the Indigo is mixed with the Henna, it produces a neutral product. Otherwise, if you just use Henna, you need to add lemon juice or apple cider vinegar.
yes it will make it jet black the long you leave it just start with clean damp hair
Amie Davis what's indigo ??
Indigo is a powder derived from the indigo plant. It gives a dark blue indigo dye.
is it necessary to use Henna before using indigo, if yes then why?!
Yes, you'll want to use henna first because indigo is a blue tone. It will look black or brown when using it in combination with the henna. Hope that helps and sorry for the late response.
Meera Nayak It is necessary because the indigo binds to the henna in your hair and stains it. Indigo alone will not work.
Nice dear👌👌👌👍👍💙💙💙👌👌💟💟

Could I dye my grey only with indigo? or do I need the henna? My hair has turned white and I just want my natural black back..
i also use indigo hair dye with heena but i did not get black colour why
mahathi13 hi i bought colorless henna by mistake. Is there any way i can make it color my hair?
@prasanna AGARWAL you need henna to help it react.
mahathi13
what ratio of henna to indigo did you use?
I started out using 1/2 Henna and 1/2 indigo which gave me a red/brown color. Later on, I used 2/3 indigo and 1/3 henna for brunette.
I am in Colorado as well. No matter what I do I pull "orange". I have mixed Amla, Indigo, everything! I hate the orange/brassy color.
Where are you buy it?

You're not suppose to use metal to mix your henna and henna is already a natural conditioner
I know that it is suggested that you use something other than metal utensils to mix henna. However, I have never had any problems/reactions when doing so. There are lots of different ways to use henna this is just mine. Some people add oils, yogurt, conditioner etc. Whatever works for you. Thanks for watching!
Fork should b wooden or plastic sweetie
im firam karachi
indygo paudar kahna sy mly ga im karachi paksitan
What is the proportion? How much henna and how much indego?
This would depend on what end color result you'd like to achieve.
No metal should be used to stir!
SUGARBEAR911 why not?
I just tried this and I think the indigo is giving me a head ache is that normal?
+Vicky Torres I get headaches sometimes when I use henna but I also add green tea to it. Was it something you added to the mixture maybe?
+CurlyinColorado the only thing I did different was adding the indigo
Well, it might be the henna then not sure.
indigo is a astringent so may increase blood pressure of area applied.
headache may be due to indigo being astringent
