What Is A Career Mode Regen & How Can You Find Them?

- Regens are something you might have noticed are mentioned a lot when people talk about career mode, but what exactly are they? What's the difference between a regen and a pregen? These are two questions I'll be answering in today's video!
The first bit of basic info we need to know is how FIFA generates new players. Sure, we all know how the youth academy works, and if you don't, click the link at the top of the video now, but how do other teams actually get young players?
The AI controlled teams don't work like the human owned team. They don't send out youth scouts to Brazil, trying to find the next Neymar. Instead, at the start of each season, the AI is allocated a certain amount of young players. This is actually what the majority of the processing time is used for between seasons, so if you’re ever frustrated waiting for the next season to begin, just know, your console could be generating the next Messi for you to find in that time.
Okay, so the AI just creates its own players, how does this apply to regens? Well a regen is just a shortened term for Regenerated Player. Certain players, usually ones from smaller nations or players with big potential, will be regenerated as young players, so nations can have national teams, and so your database will have the right amount of good players inside.
I think the most notorious current example of a regen is Benzema. After a few seasons, even if he hasnt retired, a replacement French Striker will be born to take Benzema’s spot. The player will be put in either the same league as Benzema, or in the Free Agents.
Regens are created when an original player retires and has the same potential, position, and nationality as the original player. To give another example - Ronaldo’s regen would be a Portuguese striker and would have the same potential as Ronaldo (currently 88). They’d either appear in the Saudi Arabian league, or in the free agents.
In short, a regen is a player who replaces another player once they retire. Of course this is only going to apply to older players, as the majority of young players wont actually retire in the 15 years we get with our careers. However, thats where Pregens come in. You’ve probably guessed from the name, but a pregen is just a community assigned name for a regen that appears before a player retires.
That means even young talents like Haaland and Mbappe can have their replacement arrive long before they retire. There’s actually no restriction on the age a player has to be to get a pregen, even 16 year olds can have their pregen appear and actually be older than the original player..
Pregens can be a bit more difficult to find, when compared to regens. If you find a high potential young Egyptian right winger in the Prem and Salah is still active for Liverpool, its a high chance that this is his pregen, but we cant be fully sure. If we find a huge Costa Rican goalkeeping talent in Ligue 1, and Keylor Navas has retired, we can be almost certain that this is his regen.

Something that can definitely help you for regens:
In the 2nd season, go to search and put the instructions to Belgian, CF, 16-20, Free Agents
There's always an 82+ rated 16 year old which I think is Mertens regen
Mertens doesn't always retire in season 1 I've seen him play up to season 6

I was france manager as a side job just so you can check players out without scouting. one day a 17 year old french striker rated 93 just turns up in the french national pool, didn't even have a club, i signed him on like 15,000 a week 😂

I remember something funny happened when Mertens decided to retire at the middle of Euro and that time I was managing Belgium so the game decided to replace him with his 88 overall regen immediately and I managed to get 2nd in that Euro.

Search players > Age range 34-50 > look inthe top leagues in England, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, USA and Saudi... look for top players and see if they are retiring at the end of the season... note them down and then at the start of the next season look for that player via their position and nationality and league (may be a free agent) ... if the search comes back with a few other players then it will be the one with the best stats, just scout them, save game and skip forward 12 days to see who is the best...then reload your save and sign them :)
My most common thing to do is to search in the free agents after players under 21. If there is a player with an already revealed overall and its a high one, than that's a no-brainer to me, that's a regen. I even sign them if I don't need them, because you can just sell them after a season for a great amount of money. A lot of effort but worth it, especially when you do a challenge with only signing free players.

another note make a save right before ending the season because say if you were waiting for Zlatans regen to appear, the new season he could be a 5'7 low attacking work rate 1 star skills 1 star weak foot stinker, if that happens reload your save and he'll be different when entering your new season again it's all pot luck.

The buffon pregen of my career mode is 31 and he is retiring at the end of the season, the thing is buffon is in my team and is 78 rated with 58 years old and he has 3 years more of contract

At the end of each season in fifa 22 career mode there are always a bunch of world class players which are generated by the game and are without club and I found a 19 year old French cf with 92 rating

Another good one to get is Fernandinho's Regen, I always seem to find a young high potential Brazilian CDM in the first or second season
You can find out if the pregens are actual ones by going into the edit player. All regens and pregens have the same birthdays as the original players because the game just copies their player

Idk if the pregens have a bug like regens with cf but every fullback prägen is always way better than the original. Aitäb the pregen of Hakimi had a 91 after 2 seasons while hakimi had 89. Johnson Davies pregen hada 93 after 1 season. Knystziek Marty Cashs pregen had a 85 1st season

Ye, was playing career mode with my friend. Managed Man City (for fun I guess) and Neymar went to Bergamo Calsio of all teams, so I set up a scouting network in Brazil and ended up getting a 15 year old Brazil LM......94 ball control, dribbling and finishing.
All freaking makes sense now. I was wondering why randomly 3 seasons a random polish striker showed up in free agents with a 85 rating haha
That's such a lazy way to go about handling young players, the AI should be scouting just like we are and they shouldnt just get guys who just replace a good player. They should 'work' for it

Pregens almost always generate in the same club the player theyre based off plays for at that time.
Regens can, as of fifa 22 be free agents rather than just generate in the same league/league pyramid as they retired from.
Do they have the same birthday as the actual player all the time?

regens will have the same potential as the player they replace (usually the same as their ovr for older players) BUT you can use dynamic potential to boost it

You do get some random ones as well sometimes. I picked up a Regen from Zambia, so it was easy to figure out who he potentially was the Regen of. It was a guy named Sunzu that I had never heard of, and confirmed when the birthday was the same and the real player was gone. 72 rated CB so pretty average, but a banger for league One

Regens should be scrapped. EA needs to rethink how to create new players in the game and how they are assigned to teams. Sucks that high rated or high potential generated players end up on the free agents list.
I get what your saying it should be like the older fifas where If a player like Messi retires he comes back with a different name, stats rating ect as in fifa 12 Ronaldo lasted until he was 38 he retired and this random player Portuguese striker 78 rated but he could rapidly rised up to a 92 overall very quickly which was Ronaldo's potential.
