  • This video is not a paid endorsement of any products. I recommend products here that I love to use, but any oil-based brush cleaner would work well for cleaning your oily brushes. Pink soap, dish soap, and Master's soaps all are good runners up, but I prefer to save those for my acrylic brushes.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video: it was really useful and it is key to know how to maintain our brushes "healthy".

Thank you! By the way, I have one question. I usually use a brush cleaner first, then when the brush gets clean, I apply poppy oil to it at the end. Is it better to use walnut oil and soap than a brush cleaner?

There is no one way to care for your brushes, but this is what I’ve found works best for me. I use walnut oil while painting - but for the end of the day cleaning, I use a linseed-oil based soap with water. That cleanses the brush beautifully and conditions the brush. I don’t find I need to apply another coat of oil to the brush afterwards, though that’s just one more way to keep the brush supple 😊
