Finally, a video of Jr. Pac-Man running in Pac-Man 5.
Excuse the stuttering on the second half of the video. FRAPS slowed down the game a bit. And the anti-frame-killer kicked in getting rid of the pulsating dots animation.
Also sorry for stupidly losing on level 2!

For those of you who don’t know, Pac-Man 5 (that’s a prototype name) is a Pac-Man game which aims to keep gameplay VERY close to the original (Down to the bugs and strategies), while adding extra features and multiple game modes. Such as jumping, additional ghosts (Alla pacmania), different layouts, etcetera.
Most notably, it also features Ms. Pac-Man and Jr. Pac-Man game modes. Which also replicate the arcade originals with the same level of faithfulness.
After two years, it's still unfinished, and I haven't been actively working on it either, but it is 100% playable and complete on its own as of today, as a sandbox pacman kind of game.
Sorry for being a lazy ass. I will have to finish this someday.

I'm playing vs 10 ghosts but they give me a good beating. lol . I know you have respected the rules of arcade originality, but if you could break those rules and remake a pacman with asymmetric mazes, it would be really super incredible,

Just downloaded this and can't tell you how much fun it was to play Pacman/ Ms.Pacman for hours on end. This was really well done and I can't thank you enough for it!

the GameJolt page previews an image with Yum-Yum as a ghost but after downloading the latest version Yum-Yum is not in the reel after the second Spunky. Is Yum-Yum's AI still in the works?
No, she's just kind of an easter egg: just right click to decrease the ghost count and it will roll back to 10.
Her AI strategy is basically always follow Blinky.
She appears only after level 10 though, so it's a bit of a challenge to get to see her.
Also Jr. Pac-Man is immune to her ;)
But why if pacman eats yum yum... Her eyes... Scare ghost? Make no sence
the character designs look too homebrew and resemble those godawful vector fan art images that are everywhere online

Is there any way on changing the keys for controller ? I would love to add this game but I would need to change the keys some way? F6 don't seem to work with the version I have

Hello! I am ever wondering if you could ever put out a tutorial or a simple pacman ghost AI example? I would very much love to find out how to make a PacMan clone myself.
I don't have enough time to make a tutorial but... I found this old ghost movement prototype I made long time ago. The basic idea is to simulate the ghost movement step by step, and then when the ghost is sitting at an intersection, calculate the direction the ghost would want to go, then if possible head into that direction.
The basic idea is that the maze is merely a backdrop, and the relevant information is the *intersections of the maze* , and the possible exits each of them has.
The whole idea is to calculate the shortest distance to the target but using the position "one step ahead" instead of the current position, for all 4 directions.

It includes the MFA, a compiled EXE, and the files for the Immediate If Object.
You can move pac-man around by holding down the mouse, and change the direction it's looking with the arrow keys. The colored squares are the current targets of each ghost.
PacMan5 is coded in a *very* similar way, but it doesn't use the "Immediate If Object" extension, which is used in this example to calculate the possible direction inline, instead of using multiple events; sorry if it's a bit obscuring :s
Also it's much more tidier and optimized (I did this example back in 2011, whereas PacMan5 was originally made in 2015) but the basic concept is the same: All ghosts are active objects that are pushed 1 pixel in the direction they are looking, *and continue to do so at all times* . And when a ghost is standing exactly on top of an intersection, pick up a new valid direction considering all possibilities (Preferred direction, possible directions etc.) and then head into the closest alternative.
Because if the ghost wants to go Right, but they cannot go right because there's a wall (The intersection won't allow them to) or because they're going left (Ghosts cannot turn around, except when they change modes, like scatter, or fright), then they gotta try the next direction clockwise.

Search for Pac-Man Dossier on Google. It has good information for the original game. It probably works different for other Pac-Man games.

No, namco doesn't own the rights to jr pacman, so we won't be seeing a rerelease of that game anytime soon
