Forever, - Mariah Carey Live at the Tokyo Dome; Ugh i love this beautiful power ballad. This was a gorgeous performance equipped with some great runs, a variety of timbres, some beautiful belts & mixes, and great interpretations of the melody. There’s not a lot of deviance from the recording but she does give us some new ideas here and there. I loved revisiting this classic song and hope yall enjoy it!

If you rewatch Mariah’s live videos and recognize her behaviours when she sings….you will absolutely know when she is belting her soul out or lip syncing
To me, usually the easiest sign to look out for is from her eyebrows.
I remember a makeup artist saying that Mariah's eye shadow was always one of the most important parts of her makeup because when she sings her eyes are closed a lot. From that point on, I recognized her lip synching performances were more model-esque in the face.

No, she was not lip syncing… yes it is dubbed, as most of her concerts, they release a dubbed version… but you can find snippets of the undubbed versions online which, most of the times are almost just as good 😊

Yes certain parts of this video were dubbed (she did this since it was premiering on tv back during that time) but all of this was sung by her that night. What she did was she sung this song before the audience came that night and dubbed it over certain parts. But she never lipped this, it’s all live vocals.

Yes!! I’ve been waiting for you to do this specific performance!! Thank you and it was excellent!!! I’ve never heard anyone break down what she is doing vocally as detailed and accurately as you. I’m not a singer but I catch all of those little things when I listen to her sing. I just can’t articulate what she is doing as well as you. Love it! She was truly a spectacle where her vocal performance was the show. She didn’t need any choreography or backup dancers. Just a microphone and her voice entertaining a huge packed arena.

Yes, it is dubbed. However, it is Mariah’s voice. She has demonstrated her musicality, vocal ability, songwriting skills and her range in this song alone. She doesn't need to validate herself as a performer to sing this song live because she's not classified as a performer. She created this song as an entrepreneur, songwriter, producer, and vocalist. Again, not a performer. She nailed it with creativity. Just notice the repetition in runs in her voice from the first chorus and final bridge/chorus. She invented that shit
Yes, this performance was dubbed because it's the official MV for that song. But I don't think it was dubbed with the audio version. As for the 'Daydream' World Tour, she performed 3 shows at Tokyo Dome. So I guess the vocals here are a combination of the best vocal parts from those nights, then polished and put into the footage filmed at one of those shows. That's why there're some parts where her lips doesn't quite match the audio and make you feel like she's lip-syncing.

You nailed it! Similar to Chris Rock’s comedy specials where he performs multiple nights and the slice together the best performances of each segment and that’s the final version that gets released. So yes it’s all Mariah’s Live vocals but some parts may have been dubbed in from the other nights.

22:40 yes dubbed means putting different audio over the original audio (the singer sang live on the event but for production purposes, they kinda improved the audio e.g. eliminate unnecessary noises, improve vocals, etc.) It's commonly done when they make DVD specials, and this concert was made into DVD. This could be done by either putting over the studio version, or the polished live vocals. I think in this case, it's the combination of both. They used her live vocals (that's why there were still those "cracks" and nuances in some parts, except on the last chorus where they used the studio version (imo) hence it looked like it didn't match her singing in that part. Anyway we all know it's her voice anyway so.. And also almost all artists do this in their concerts made into DVD specials. Michael Jackson, Celine, Whitney, etc. you name it 🤗
You can actually hear where splices are in HQ audio versions. It's not that often.

I don't know from which place you're coming from but never in my life have I seen a Whitney Houston peroformance where her vocals were dubbed, the vocals were either live (which is 99.99999% of the time) or lip-synched ( I'm Every Woman climax, some 80's peroformances in Europe where she had to lip-synch because it was the rule, I Will Always Love You in 1992 when she was pregnant....), but dubbing I've honestly never seen it, her most famous peroformances are live and you can hear every little imperfection in her voice and Whitney is very known to change the arrangements every time so I reaaaaaaaaaly doubt she would have the time to go to the studio to match her live arrangements, she simply doesn't !

Dubbed means they edit the quality of it, think “remastered” so they edit the audio quality and picture quality, and they also have Mariah resing some notes or phrases. Or she does it herself, she is a perfectionist. Her tone is different in the undubbed, its less nasally and honestly I wish only the audio quality was dubbed but not her literal voice.

You can tell she’s singing live by comparing it to the other performances in the same tour. But yes this specific one is dubbed.
This is dubbed, not hard to understand given it is a professional live recording video. They basically tweak the live audio so it is more clean. The undubbed though is almost identical. The difference is she not just a “superstar”. First and foremost she is a VOCALIST and a songwriter. Then theres the extra. Please don’t accuse her of lipsyncing specially in the 90s. You can watch the undubbed anytime.

Well, if you react to her concerts that are officially released, then yes, they're mostly dubbed. She sang the whole thing live, but they were dubbed. I'm sure "The Live Debut", which was previously called "The First Vision", and the St. John Divine concerts were all live because the fans requested so. If you want to hear the actual live performances of Forever, you can react to Forever live in London, Rotterdam, or Paris. The qualities of those audios are bad, but they're still worth listening to. There's also the undubbed version of the Madison Square Garden 1995 concert. The performances that she uploaded on UA-cam were dubbed, but the ones with worse audio quality were live. They're pretty similar with minor differences. I personally prefer the undubbed version.

Mariah Carey's live Forever live isn't as nimble and beautiful as the dubbed Tokyo Dome version.
