There simply are no superlatives available to adequately extol this magnificent performance. Whereas all the soloists are superb, a special mention must be accorded Leontyne Price's magnificntly beautiful singing here. Von Karajan's interpretation displays an incredibly effective attention to details often overlooked is wrapped in glory.
Quels talents !!! quel chef d'orchestre !!! Et quel compositeur !!!...
Karayan was a genius - no question. And the young Pavarotti! My god: with this voice he COULD change the world for the better ( he still does, r.i.p.). And MAN does that not move stones to tears, this composition! Verdi was (and forever is) a most powerful "Voice In The Wilderness"
Most hatvan felé e zenei csoda amit most hallgatok gyönyörűség füleimnek.
Why do the musical illiterati refer to every form of musical composition as a "song"? A song is a poem set to music, almost always for voice and piano. This composition is a "Requiem."
Im getting tired of seeing this same pretentious comment on every classical music video out there. It's a tired out senseless comparison, one thing is not like the other.
Without Carigura&Satan, TheWine king should give those Solists as culture art prizes at the time.Mr.Karayan hoped youtube on 21c. I hoped at the time soon by open by press, too. The USA &RUSIAPresidents also I had much corporations for this with discussions on humanbeings tarents growings up together. ❤
For me this is the best recording of Verdis Requiem,Karajan shows his greatness with singers.Price is suprem and the mezzo follows her. But the tenor and the bass is not in the same class. Bjørling was better in requiem…and many basses could sing his par more beutifull…..Yes,I mean that…o.k.
Best tenors here were Caruso and di Stefano, the second present at the Toscanini integral recording. The best bass here imo was Raimondi, as in the 1982 LPO recording
Talk about sexism? See how Price and Cosstto were out of book but Pavarotti and Ghiaurov were not! Even both girls with exquisite sounds and musicianship did not give the competition a chance!
There is no audience. This is basically a “recording” session with the visuals added (and everyone dressed up for good measure). Totally valid of course, but a recording nonetheless.
No women in the orchestra 😡!! Sad but it was just too competitive for the ladies those days, taking care of the kids and family, there was no time to practice 😢

This is my favorite recording of this piece…it is unalloyed perfection. Leontyne and Fiorenza is are still with us…which is a blessing!
What about Bernstein’s version?
Absolutely better.
@@alessandropucci6768 I agree. But it doesn't have Price.

Leontyne Price is magnificent under the direction of HVK. I love this recording.
Pavarotti giovanissimo e già inconfondibile. Esecuzione superba.
What a charismatic performance that was. Its like time traveling to see a performance half a century old.
Wow Leontine Price and Fiorenza Cossotto are still alive. They are both eminences... long life for them.
Leontyne Price. Forever.
Leontyne Price .... none sings better than her of Verdi's Requiem. Moving & divine.

Karajan aveva 59 anni in quell'anno. "Giovanissimo" sembra un po' esagerato ;)

Fascinating . A sublime piece with wonderful mesmerizing soloists. A time capsule of a performance. Ty for sharing.
The soloists are so balanced and blend wonderfully in timbre and volume. A rarity to have such a quartet for sure.
Old but gold.
Marvellous Cossotto, Italian mezzo at her best!
❤❤❤absolutely. She is awesome. ❤❤❤🎉
Thank you very much. Please, if the video will be deleted, don't give up and re-upload It

great performance, Legeddary cast. right tempi. clear voice leading
Magnífica producción, Jiri. Mil gracias
Capolavoro😍
still the Best !!!! KING of Classic!!! name is KARAJAN
I was like: the tenor sounds like Pavarotti, checked the description and its him!!! So young here😅 didnt recognise him🤭 amazing🥳
A very young Pavarotti
Moc děkuji za tento film. 👍
The best set of singers to ever perform this requiem
Rosângela Hosni - 15/02/2024 - Brasil - São Paulo - marvellous , thank you Jiri Zednik
Sublime distribution et sublime chef !
Meravigliosa direzione, esecuzione, interpretazione ed insieme d' atmosfera mai sentita...❤

At 56:53 we hear the Triumphant Santus movement! Such Joyous music indeed
The most beautiful Requiem. In time absolutely Classic and gracefull.

Ein sehr gutes video
Great Requiem Verdi
These soloists are the voices of the angels in Heaven... ❤❤❤
The BEST!
This is absolutely metal.

And was recorded by very old tecnología, Can you imagine today
39:00 Dies Irae
They sing with audience at 14.30 p.m, they rested a couple of hours and started over for this film. Amazing isn'it ?
What's going down between the 2 cellists @ 1:15:00 ?
There is no better Requiem. Perhaps tied with the Bjorling/PrIce recording
Karajan was a god among us.
Just me or is the high b flat in 12:21 sung by the tenors in this recording rather than the altos?
Is someone whistling at 43:49?
1965 aproximadamente?
Faltó el Lux æternam.

Scala a Milano?
Yes!
Yes, orchestra and choire from "Scala Di Milano"
It’s hard to listen to this objectively- Miss Leontyne turns my innards to jelly.

Nonesence. You are not european. The male are supreme. No better.
False.
Yeah, the tenor and the bass are complete nobodies. I don't think they had very successful careers.

This was 1967. In South Africa black and white could not even join busses until 1990. But calling Karajan a Nazi is no problem for some stupid People.
Not sure what else you'd call someone who literally had a Nazi membership card...

Aren´t all videos "recordings"?!
Sorry but its not best thing i heard and its kinda bad to hear it
Perhaps you consult an doctor for ears
There is best versions... maybe the quality of sound is the problem

But the level of performance is high, isn't it?
Considering the age, that's common sense.
