I think both Chesterfield and Wrexham have had a more interesting National league story of their own during this save, both going from the National league. Chesterfield getting up to the Championship (5:30) whereas Wrexham got to league one then dropped like a stone down back to the National league (7:17) I’m assuming Ryan dropped out.
That's what I love about these sorts of videos, the side narratives are so interesting! Rob and Ryan usually drop out pretty quickly in game, I suspect in FM24 they'll be programmed to stay a lot longer!
I think on these sort of experiments it might be worth doing 2 clubs on either side. Feel like it's quite isolated especially if you pick the wrong clubs (looking at you Barnet)
@@TomFM I get that but I also think it'll emphasise just how badly that team managed their finances if you'd had another billion pound team going blow for blow with the youth product team in this scenario. Though whilst I have your attention I wonder what a 10th tier would do with all that money.... Say maybe someone like Huntingdon 👀
I would have chosen perfect facilities from the start. The only risk there is the yearly cost of youth coaching and recruitment, but if the club goes up quickly enough as Oldham did, money isn't a problem anymore, especially as the youth make a big part of the team, several new ones arriving every year to make up for the ones who leave, for some big money, which isn't much needed to recruit other players. So the club can keep some money even without sponsors and still spend millions on better staff, bigger stadiums, or to maintain the facilities. The main problem with billions is that recruited players are overpayed and hard to sell once they're not good enough anymore.
Considering how much more successful perfect facilities seem to be, instead of giving leagues/countries/clubs a £1bil cash or tv deal, you could try giving a leagues worth of clubs perfect facilities. Maybe a country like Portugal who have access to champs league and combined with a good youth rating might have interesting results.
you shouldve flipped it at the end and given oldham 1B and Barnet the youth facilities to see if the outcome would be the same, would take ages though so maybe not
Reputation means a lot in Football Manager, giving a club loads money with low rep means no players will want to go there. Whereas the great facilities means that Oldham got great players with no rep requirements. Also, once the real players start retiring, the game will replace them with regens of a similar skill level to their current level/rep so getting promoted quickly (like Oldham did) is a big advantange.
I saw you put out a tweet asking for some new content ideas… Taking inspiration from your around the block save, where you tried to sign players from only Eastern Europe, I’d love to see which region would come out on top. A team in the premier league could be entirely made up from Scandinavian players for example. Another could be South Europe etc Then you sim and see which region comes out on top. Or lock them players in/transfer embargo the clubs and see there journey through the English pyramid. You could even restrict this further and make it under 21 players only and see which region’s wonderkids are the best.
This is the classic FM problem that the AI makes decisions based on team reputation, and not on anything else (albeit way worse than usual). These "I've given them a lot of money" tests always fail because that reputation was unchanged, so they still act like the tiny club they are...
I think it depends. I've done similar videos in the past where I've given the entire National League £1bn and some will make it to the Premier League. But you are right, reputation is the single biggest deciding factor in the game.
This really speaks about how bad AI is in FM. 1 billion is strictly better than perfect facilities since it allows you to build the perfect facilities plus signing incredible players for the level. They should really work on this part of the game
I don't know why, but I want to see what would it need to happen for India to win world cup (I'm not Indian). Would it be just great youth facilities and coaching for all Indian clubs, bilion pounds for each club, or both. I think it would be interesting for us, but probably time consuming for you, to see what would actually be needed for a not so football nation to win a world cup.
I would like to see this experiment again but combined. You give 1 Billion AND the Perfect Facilities to a single small club in the National League, like Dorking Wanderers, and see what happens.
Tom what would be awesome in these videos (especially clubs from countries who produce awesome youth players) check the highest current ability of the best players in the clubs. A bit like what you did at the start to show the best players out of the clubs to begin vs the rest of the world&EPL :)
Perfect facilities is a much easier save than 1 billion pounds, of course you can manage those funds better if you take charge of the billionaire club but those youth facilities will start producing right away and carry you until you hit the premier league with a much lower wage bill and capable to make the jump
For a challenge, could you do a team with insane players but rubbish coaching and facilities and another the opposite. They could start in the vanarama national league.
I would give my team 1 Billion pounds cause I could get those perfect facilities in the 1 billion aswell as build up a good squad for each season, also keep up the great work Tom you are one of my favourite UA-camrs to watch especially when times get tough your streams are great aswell
Pre-watch comment: I always thought money>facilities because your facilities degrade fast and without money you stay stuck. If you have money you can upgrade those later.
I think i would've choose facilities because if i have better facilities i can make great youngsters and i can sell them for alot of money But if i took the money i probably would spend it on mideocare player and i probaly wont get past the championship
Take a lower-division English league. Give a third of the clubs one billion dollars, give another third of the clubs perfect facilities, and give the rest of the clubs a 150,000-seat stadium. Run the experiment for twenty-five years and see what happens.
My team i support irl has one of the best facilities in the world and the team is PAOK FC from Greece. So i would like the 1 billion for my team but even so they could not win the league lol....
Perfect facilities felt like such an obvious option for me. Think about producing the players ur r trying to sign. And having extras to sell and make profit.
How do you know it doesn't take hours and hours? The only thing I could think of if it doesn't take hours for him is that he uses a smaller database or he has a beast of a PC.
In real life I would rather my club have one billion pounds, however, I think that the game will have the club with the facilities do better, and certainly have more sustained success.
Not sure it'll be a good video but could put one or two top European clubs in a crap league like Irish league and see if they can stay consistent in Europe in a lower rated league and poor TV revenue meaning they might need to cash in on players. Basically a race between growing league reputation vs top players leaving and finances collapsing
Before I watch this, Barnet will just end up signing the same players they would anyway but on silly wages. Oldham will do well short term, then plateau as the league they end up in be it championship or league one and slowly over time the facilities will degrade and anyone with talent will be signed by prem teams either as they're first team ready or just before. The games AI has no idea what to do when lower teams are given money
IRL, i would rather have my team get 1 billion. In fm, I would have 1 billion if I were the manager since AI dont know how to spend and improve. But AI should have facilities
I'd bet the problem with Barnet was that even with all that money, their scouts were still only National League quality. So they probably overrated players due to bad/inaccurate scouts.
It's not the scouts, but the reputation. Their reputation says "invest only on National League-level things, don't bother with anything better", even though their money lets them do that.
@@llSuperSnivyll Yeah but they also were over-paying for players. Like I don't think you pay Jack Spong 30k/wk wages if they had a good read on his CA/PA. To me those wages say they thought he was better than he was.
@@cjjones633 I have tried checking that myself. I picked a Level 10 team (with the lower leagues database), and gave them maximum reputation. I only did 6 seasons so far, but, despite the obviously worsening reputation, they do bring in players that are WAY above the league they're in (they have players with around 100 CA on a Level 7 league), but they are still overpaying them... one of them is earning 5 million pounds a year. It's not as simple as it seems.
How good were the Barnet scouts? Seems like more of a failure to find the best players on their behalf than a failure to be able to pay the best players.
1 billion 😂 My Chelsea save in 2033 laughs I made just under that In one season selling players I no longer wanted 😅 I made so much money I still had 500 million left after buying everyone I wanted 😮
Barnet felt like those stories of lottery winners that splurge all their money on useless stuff and are broke within a year
A gambling addict could manage their finances better than barnet
I think the AI mismanages the finances while a human player could sculpt a strategy around meting out the 1 billion more responsibly

I’ll be honest. Taking over at Barnet at this point seems like it would be a lot of fun
Tom I think if the average human was given 1 billion than the ai they would spent it more wisely and not hand out over 67000 in league 2😂❤
Except the players will then just refuse to play for you. It's the way the game's coded.
I don't know, I'd hand out some pretty big contracts to players to get Lincoln City promoted 😂
