I teach 4th grade, and classroom jobs work great for us. They all have jobs that are actually helpful to me, and they keep the same jobs for a whole month. This saves me time, and they learn how to do their jobs really well. We do jobs the last 10 minutes of every day, and the kids are very good at knowing what they need to do and getting it done.
Great video, but I could have written this comment. I've refined the jobs down to the ones I know they enjoy and feel are worth their time. I make them apply on Google Forms and have gotten down a system for swiping through their forms and assigning them quickly each month. Everyone in class gets one with the exception of the "on vacation" person! Ha.

I stopped classroom jobs early on for my 3rd graders. I’m now retired. What I did was draw a new name each week. That person did EVERYTHING. Line leader, class monitor if I had to step out, passed out papers, answered the door. It worked SO well for me and they loved doing everything for a whole week.
Crazy because I already do the exact thing in my class. I used to do multiple jobs and your little skit was too accurate! Now I do one teacher’s helper each day. I just have my kids names on index cards and flip to a new kid each day.
I change my jobs every two weeks and my students get paid to do their jobs. If they are absent or don’t do them, they don’t get paid. The money my students earn links with my math curriculum and my students buy treats instead of getting something from a prize box. It is all how you manage it.

I think I will label our helper as the 'Student of the Week' and give them some extra privileges too. We call it “Teacher Jr.” and it works amazingly with first graders because they’re younger. The older grade levels may be able to handle the list of jobs independently so it’s easier for them. For us first grade teachers, this is THE best method to use! 🎉😊 I also, after the first 6-8 weeks will use descriptors of who is the teacher junior of the day by saying, “ This student has a brother, this student has brown hair, 2 syllables in their first name, etc.” This way they’re using the process of elimination to figure out who it is. We pull craft sticks out of a small bucket and I’m the only one who knows who it is. Later, I let students describe the clues! ☺️

It’s important to do what’s required. However, if the opportunity arises, build a case about why you’d like to try something different. Show them this video and ask them if they have any objections to building classroom/student independence and accountability in a way that makes the child feel special and seen. Maybe you can pilot the new way for one month and then report back the results.
I completely disagree with you. Not all students need a job, you don’t need a fancy chart, I keep my student jobs for 2 weeks and keep a checklist of who does what job, and the students doing jobs for me actually help me a lot. You need to do some reflection.
What you say is valid and what the OP presented is equally valid. Different systems work for different people. I suggest you view others from a strength based approach.
Yes. What works for one person might feel odd and uncomfortable to another. One of the most important things is to be authentic in your classroom. If it doesn’t work don’t feel like you have to do it just because everyone else is doing it. That’s how “jobs” felt for me. I’m glad to see the different ideas. That’s how we learn and come up with new fresh ideas. It’s ok when people “completely disagree “ with me. Being in public education for 25 years it gave me a lot of practice with people not liking my opinion. It kinda makes me chuckle a bit. It’s honestly what makes what I’m doing now feel that much more important (and fun).

I always use classroom jobs too! One of the jobs is to change them each afternoon. It works great after we have learned all the jobs together.
