In networks, routers are most often referred to as 'Servers' and only some require servers whereas others like the Mesh topology, a newer network format using only computers and expensive wiring don't require servers to run. Hope that helped :)
Sorry no that didn't help, because Servers store files, unlike routers, which succeeded hubs. Routers purpose is to direct messages to the nodes to get to the correct device with the matching IP address.
Hi there. So your Router would connect to your switch just like any other device on your network. Printer, Computer, Server or whatever. The router is usually your gateway which as in the name suggests ROUTES traffic either between your Local Area Network or the Internet. So if your computer is trying to print then it would use the router to keep the traffic Local. So. Computer - Switch - Router - Switch - Printer. But if you were trying to say send an e-mal for example. It would go Computer - Switch - Router - Internet - Router - Switch - Computer. No obviously if your server was a mail server then the traffic may indeed stay local but for the example I am assuming your e-mail server is somewhere on the internet. Hope that helps a little bit. Cheers Mark
Routers are used to find routes in the network to a new destination that is not in it routing tables once that is done,it connects to the "Gateway Device" for the interpretation of message or signals .
Very concise and to the point. I like the way network typologies are presented.
Thank you Jason!

best video to Understanding Network Topologies
Thanks. Happy learning.
Good
Thank you.
Understandable..... which method you use to make this video
I use several different methods in our learning studio.
Good but I'm still wondering where routers fit into the topologies.

ISP - Modem or CSU/DSU - Router (gateway) - Network switch (if required) - Topology.
