Actually, they follow the octopus and steal scraps when octopus feeds, that’s what I saw while snorkeling. Specially the tiger looking one(painted comber).
*That octopus is eating the damsel's fish larvae. You can see the rock they were stuck to under the octopus, right next to the octopus' beak (mouth). He probably snuck in the damsel's lair, took its babies and started munching away while fending off the damsel's attacks trying to save it's babies. Predation at it's finest!*
I wonder if the "rock" is a clam. Rubio 2011 noted it's the octopus' lair. Also there are 4 damsels; not in distress, but rather hungry. See Rubio's other vids. Notice how the octopus protects its mantel as would a boxer, the face. It also seemed to be slowly tiring or was frustrated.
@@lesliesylvan You’re dead on about the clam. Also, that is totally this occy’s den. She’d do well to blow the sand out the entrance; she’d have more space for lunch, and to get a good swing at those obnoxious fish. I love her colour change toward the end of the video-she goes from dark (‘high-colour’, very interested in the activity, etc.), to mottled, to very pale and only slightly mottled. You can literally see her interest waning with her colour and the number of arms she’s willing to invest in the battle. 😂 She cracks me up. 💙💙💙🐙
that black fish is toying with with him like “Haha, you cant catch me, im faster than you.” octopus: “come here you little shit! wait till I get my tentacle on you. you’ll be my lunch after I hadn’t eaten in 3 days.”
Up here with air, we know the feeling, buddy. We have flies and mosquitoes.
I like the way the other fish are hanging around just watching the fight.

Do the suckers of the octopus actually stick to the slimy skin of the fish?
