The power of saying "listen to this moron" before they speak is more powerful than any censorship.
The side with the better ideas never wants censorship.

Yeah I love the US Constitution and political freedoms enjoyed there. Canada should just take the best from the US constitution and become a Republic too. Having a British monarch is unfair to indigenous Canadians and for Canadians that don’t accept British sovereignty

Those are, interesting points. The monarchy in particular doesn't really have power, with a Governor General being their stand in, though they can be fired by the monarch. Basically the only action ever done by a Governor General is firing the Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, which just so happens to be the last leader to propose distancing Australia from the USA.
Australia is effectively a satellite of the US, not far off of Puerto Rico, with a large US surveillance base in the middle of the outback, operated by only US citizens.
The state of the army seems to be from doing dirty jobs the US hands us, rather than planning to edge towards an Authoritarian regime. Authoritarianism makes for a less stable, and less desirable country for immigrants and companies, which makes it objectively a dumb move for a remote island dependant on imports. While the public don't have guns, organised crime and police certainly do, being hard to imagine the majority of them just standing by.

I think the power to fire an elected head of government means they have more power than the elected government. Whether it is a realised threat such as with Whitlam or a potential threat to make Australian governments conform to their wishes, they have the power to get rid of an elected government which means they are more powerful than the government.
It wasn’t just the US that Whitlam wanted to distance himself from it was the UK too. Yes Australia has basically become a satellite of the US, while still being a satellite of the UK. There is nothing inherently wrong with that, as long as that is the will of the people.
Firing Gough Whitlam was a terrible precedent.

I also think the fact that Australian politicians swear loyalty to the monarch and not the Australian people shows where the Parliament’s loyalty lies. It’s an institution set up in colonial days where it is at the monarch’s pleasure to follow its advice.
That’s why the Governer General has to rubber stamp legislation proposed by Parliament and why Kerr could sack Whitlam.
It’s not a true democracy or republic.

@brandonraynor The prime minister isn't truly an elected position either, it's the local party representatives you vote for.
After Whitlam was dismissed, they opted to hold an election where he was still the face of the labour party, and lost that election, being the opposition leader for 3 more years.
After all the leadership challenges, if that happened today, the party in power would just push in a new prime minister, and not bother trying to keep the current Prime Minister.
If this happened constantly, then they'd work towards changing the Australian constitution, something Australians aren't attached to, or even know exists.

Exactly hardly any Australians have read the constitution and would quite frankly be horrified if they did. Also the completely insecure vote in Australia means foreign powers or domestic ones can manipulate elections
