for me what has always stood out in this particular rendition of Uditji is the pronounciation throughout the mukhda and the 3 antaras, each and every Urdu "lafz" is pronounced so clearly, as if he is my lover and telling all this close to my ears. The way "un nigahon me mohabbat nahi" is said is sultry enough to give me a boner tbh lol. This is extraordinary art, believe me, makes tears flow down my eyes everytime i listen to it.
His contemporaries such as Kumar Sanu, abhijeet, Sonu, KK etc might be at par with him or maybe even better according to some, but no one will ever come close to putting so much emphasis on how each and every word has to be pronounced. He is in the league of rafi sahab and kishor da in this regard

and to be honest, it has to be sung like that, if you think of the lyrics. He is lamenting his misfortune of unrequited love, and not completely broken by this. He is just bittersweet about that, and maybe even somewhat content with what came his way. And this theory(atleast for me) is complimented by the numero uno song of the album "maine dil se kaha" of KK(nasamajh laya gham to ye gham hi sahi). Beautiful stuff!
