  • This is the return leg of the Saphos Trains 'Bristol Forty' excursion on 1 July 2021.
It ran from Bangor to Bristol hauled by preserved class 40 No. 40013 (D213) 'Andania'.
The highlight of the return leg was double headed steam haulage as far as Crewe, with 46100 'Royal Scot' piloting LMS Black Five No. 45231 'The Sherwood Forester'.
40013 travelled back from Bristol light engine, arriving in Crewe ahead of the train from where it took over to complete the journey to Bangor.
Shown here at Searchlight Lane, just north of Stafford is the steam hauled train, preceded by the class 40 travelling light engine.

Thank you John. Much appreciated, and yes, it's not a bad spot, especially for steam, with the rising gadient and long viewpoint. And the fact that it's just about my closest WCML location is a bonus :) Cheers, Rob

Now who's doing the 'double take' lol. It worked well Rob and a great capture. I'm glad you spotted this move as I forgot to mention it.
    Cheers, Brian.

Wasn't going to forget this one Brian, it was one I'd have liked to go on with our Saphos credit, but their Covid pricing supplement for two passengers made it too expensive. Still, at least I got to video it :) Cheers, Rob

Meant to add I realised I had an old phone which took HD video, whereas my old video camera was only SD. The phone isn't brilliant, and a bit wide angle, but it's better than nothing for secondary footage lol.

Nevertheless Rob, always worth trying. In fact with phone quality now I often wonder why I carry so much gear around. I do carry a spare phone for 'emergencies' but still prefer the cameras so nothing will change I guess!!
